I don't think anything will come of this. For that 5% of oil imports Japan can go elsewhere, and if Trump upholds his threat to sanction countries that continue to do business with Iran, Japan could suffer more of his mindless pique, which would not be a good thing considering the trade discussions going on right now. It's a good thing the UN premises are not considered US territory.

Perhaps an urge!, as plans just don't seem to work!

What will Trump and Pompeo have to say about this? They have been trying to get the EU to stay way from Iran. They won't be happy about Abe meeting the Iranian president. Japanese oil importers have already caved in to U.S. bullying.

Did he get permission from America?

Trump will tell abe off and make stand in corner facing the wall. Japan will lose 8% of our oil import just in time for winter. Unless trump orders abe to buy US oil...

Abe needs to stand up to Trump, because Trump is nothing more than another President McKinley waiting to happen. Protectionism Tariffs don't work. He doesn't realize that whatever he does, will be done the same to his policies when he is gone, as he did to all of Obama's Policies. "DUMPED" The Iran Deal was one of the Good things Obama did, even though I think Obama is as bad as Trump in many respects, in concern to what he did to Libya, and Trump is doing to Syria, Yemen, and Palestine, next Iran.

I sincerely hope Trump grants the exception for Japan to deal with Iran, and I think he will. Japan has no history of conflict with Iran unlike USA and Western Nations. Always good business relations and goodwill. Iranian people love Japan.

I think Trump has no say on the matter of Japan meeting with Iran. I do not think Japan maintaining good bilateral ties with Iran will harm Japan-US relations as that is a whole different matter. It never hurts to have more allies even when the allies are enemies of each other. I support the Japan-Iran meeting.
