G20 could be a signature work for Abe. A good time to show his leadership. Wish Abe the best.

Sorry Akie, but me thinks Abe and leadership are mutually exclusive terms.

dbsaiya, did I say that Abe has leadership ? I said to show his leadership, and wish him the best. If he has the leadership, I wouldn't wish the best.

Totally unecessary trips.

Weeks later all the "Top" leaders and their minions, together with gaggles of business corporate types, will descend upon Japan.

Abe and his cohorts will have many opportunities to pop the corks, so as to speak.

All pre-G20 festival preparations / communications can be easily handled by underlings and electronic devices.

This is pure Abe PR creating an air of importance to the flock at home.

And spending billions of mortal taxpayers contributions to boot.

I question those who question Abe and his actions.

Who of all the politicians in leadership positions in Japan has actually taken any meaningful actions for and on behalf of Japan other than Abe. Every politician that I know other than Abe has been trying to further their own agendas or some ideals that makes no practical or pragmatic sense and not for the Japanese people.

It takes face-to-face with world leaders to meaningfully assess the situation and the intentions of the leaders. Abe of all world leaders have made the effort to "meet" at "site" rather than to "invite". It makes sense. It is a valuable and meaningful action for Abe to travel. He knows things first hand. He does not have the CIA or other effective means to gather intelligence as the US and other nations have, especially regarding world leaders.
