With the summer break coming for the Diet, Abe will have a chance to "recover" his ratings.

He'll need to do something pretty amazing, and it obviously can't be giving a completely honest account of the Kake Gakuen situation as that would just confirm how much of a sleazebag he really is. North Korea don't seem to be able to help him - they launched that rocket and his ratings have plunged all the same. Replacing one bunch of mediocre hacks in the Cabinet with another isn't going to make much of an impact. So what could he possibly do?

@jimizo: Abe is not a rich kid.  His grandfather side was just a village sake brewers.  Just a small local merchant.  His father's side is just a national ,politician.   Just middle class kid.

If Renho can communicate with Chinese,  LDP should invite her to understand what China want to talk with N Korea to smooth Asian countries.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ah, Renho. what happened to all the high hopes for her? Gone.

ANd not being 100 percent japanese is a problem for a politician here? Perhaps japan deserves what it gets.

The Communist party, needs no more than a name change, they are actually for people. Rather than for the companies, Toyota does not pay tax simply because of family connections . Same with TEPCO, legally should have had insurance to pay for a disaster, but No, The government with our tax money buys 51% share and raises charges. But it's Ok to sell land to a friend, cheep (tax payers money). Reshuffel a self perceived sence of worth is the story. Overwork is a problem so instead of in forcing a 40hr limit raise it to 100hr!!!!!!, there plebs it's all OK but some of you will die.

As most of the cabinet are in there 70s I expect no real change but a roller coaster of funerals that will make me smile as the future unrolls.

The sad part is that the joker's approval rating is barely over 30 percent yet no talk of him being

It needs to drop into the low to mid-20's for any serious considerations about replacing him start within the LDP.

Problem is he is going to get a jump in his ratings, real or otherwise, because of the trade agreement with the EU. The people doing the polling will make sure of it.

No to mention that there is a Diet committee meeting as I write this now, that is having a question session regarding the two school scandals that Abe appears to be involved in, but what's highly irregular (again) is that Abe is absent.

With the summer break coming for the Diet, Abe will have a chance to "recover" his ratings.

If a candidate with good policies and no scandal attached to their names appeared, they would win.

Renho is unpopular with people because they believe her mixed ancestry is a problem. Most people don't know she renounced her Taiwanese citizenship despite her doing it months ago when she learned it was a problem. I don't think she has a realistic chance of being PM and she should probably replace herself with someone who has a stronger chance of winning an election.

Koike could probably beat Abe but she is a snake with many if not most of the same ideals as Abe, and her circle of friends is the same as Abe's.

I think we'll end up with more Abe because nobody competent enough is bothering to step up to the plate. Pretty sad state of affairs considering how utterly useless Abe is. He's literally a criminal (Look at all his scandals). Why is it that nobody can get rid of him? Cockroach. Bleh.

Shuffle Shuffle Shuffle... lets confuse the Japanese people more so they have no idea who is responsible for what... at least he is getting rid of the "forgetful" defense minster

Of course he won't call out a snap election when his results are doing poorly! The stupidity of allowing a prime minister to carry out a snap election, is that the prime minister can actively monitor the people's behaviour to best correspond to his political agenda!! And after doing so, call out a snap election to secure a landslide victory, without opposition parties being able to adress their point of views within a certain time frame! A broken democracy unfortunately:(

The Communists. They're the only party that actually seems to give two sh*ts about the ordinary people and understands their issues.

Communists = smooth sailing... LOL, alrighty!

Although Abe had made it easy for us to blame him with his tone deaf attitude, part of the problem is a lack of viable challengers. Any suggestions?

Many prime ministers did this, early election or cabinet reshuffle. But most didn't help at all.

Ratio of job offers to one person is 1.37 in May, 2017.

Abe PM is in trail of his party LDP focusing his ancestor's group who wanted to change the constitution to accomplish this for all those of (right-wing) nationalists Nippon Kaigi to reborn the pre-war Japanese Constitution, showing that's the real Constitution for Japan. The detail you can see in wikipedia "Nippon Kaigi" English version the criticism. Well, as much he was in G20 and most of the government of the world has less own citizen popularity to all those belongs to G20 Abe PM not really worrying this decreasing popularity in Japan. He want only to follow the few people policy I mentioned above. What a shame!

The ruling party has been moving toward amending the supreme law, especially after Abe made a controversial proposal in May for the revision of war-renouncing Article 9. But some members have stressed the need to deal with the matter carefully following the election defeat in the nation's capital.

Japanese/English translating beside here......

Many of the people I talk to here take pride in Article 9, it makes Japan different in it's own way. They believe in peace and they don't want to see Japan in any wars.

If the election is the only reason that Abe should "deal with the matter" then folks better watch out, because Abe doesn't care!

Spot on. You can read very valid criticisms of the LDP here, but I can't remember too many posts promoting any opposition party and explaining how their policies would be any better. As a Brit, I can bitch and moan with the best of them, and there's nothing wrong with a good moan, but this is getting a bit tiresome.

Yeah, Abe is an incompetent, rich-kid nationalist and the LDP is a cosy club of well connected geriatrics. Got it. And what?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

If you ask for a job today, you will get it tomorrow if you are not very choosy.

How, exactly? Which jobs? Who's hiring who?

Be very interested in the specifics, thanks.

Now that he's starting to look all weak and compromised quite a few people might decide they're viable challengers.

in what universe is replacing one geriatric politician with another one "rejuvenating?" come on, koike. start your national party already and kick these bums out.

Abe is the only Japanese politician to be competent to them.

I don't understand how you can be so sure. There's thousands of polititians who if given the chance could probably run circles around this man. No. The problem here is dynastic politics. The notion that so and so deserves the mantle simply because he or she was born into the right political family. Hence the incompetence portrayed by dear leader whose only credentials are his grand papy was prime minister. A truly disgusting joke!!

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Reshuffle/ Regurgitate the same old self In titled people who's qualification is total lack of empathy for others, a rabid urge to turn the clock backwards. And an education that at best is 50 years out of date. Thus a Finance minister who has no idea of actually needing a budget. He might be the next health minister proclaiming the benifits of smoking. A (Lawyer) Defence Minister who is unable to grasp basic Laws, And who's memory would fail a Dementure test. Shinzo sure can pick them, only if they are Nippon Kaigi.

In the days of the world - Trump, Putin, Xi, etc., Abe is the only Japanese politician to be competent to them. Other Japanese politicians are weak kneed.

Won't be long before Pawpaw Abe has some tummy issues I think.

Someone get Pawpaw his pills!

Japanese economy is OK. If you ask for a job today, you will get it tomorrow if you are not very choosy.

Bad apples (which he chose) must be removed. Abe is losing popularity but his right wing tendency is supported

Um if that were true, his party wouldn't have lost massively. Face it. Now he's playing the straw clutching game after the realization that the 'abenomics' snake oil is no longer as popular five years down the road. All he's got going for him now, like all losers before him,is sabre rattling coupled with fear mongering. Tick tock tick tock abe, your time is clearly up.

Bad apples (which he chose) must be removed. Abe is losing popularity but his right wing tendency is supported ironically in relation to arrogant China to which Japanese people feel ill and also to anti-Japan South Korea and belligerent North Korea.

He can't deliver on any economic or social reforms. He's useless for everything except blue skies waffle. You really think he can handle an international crisis?

For the time being there is no replacement of Abe.

Any Japanese person over the age of 20 who isn't senile, chronically ill, certifiably insane or an outright crook could do a better job. Abe was an abject failure in 2007, he's an abject failure now.

Keep the same inept kleptocrats but in other positions... That will do it.

That's exactly what a cabinet reshuffle in Japanese politics is: a game of musical chairs but with the same number of chairs as people.

Where will Aso go this time? Education?

I would not be surprised as this is the man who as PM visited a store for the first time and was amazed at how people shopped as he himself had never had to shop for himself and now he is the minister of finance.

Stack that deck Abe!

Sadly the one person who needs to be "reshuffled" won't be, and the rest of any moves are purely superficial.

15 ( +18 / -3 )

He is aware, is he not, that it isn't his cabinet that is the problem? And that some of the 'results' his cabinet is supposed to produce (War constitution) are not as popular as he thinks? And, as former president Clinton once said, "It's the economy, stupid."

Just wondering how out of tune he is with the people of Japan.
