and so...??????

It follows a Kyodo News poll on Sunday that showed support for Kishida's government slid to the lowest in his one-year tenure as doubts grow over his ruling party's disclosure of ties to the controversial Unification Church.

These articles about Kishida's sliding approval are getting shorter and shorter.

The next one will probably read, Former PM Kishida, who came to power with promises of a "new form of capitalism" and wealth distribution, will be followed by K* T***.

Who promises wage hikes and a "New Economic Plan" and to urge his party members to sever ties with the Unification Church.

No political system is perfect, but Japans is so broken, 70 + years of LDP rule nepotism, corruption unaccountability. Been to several countries where the population appear to be happy then return to Japan where salaries are stagnant, the fear of being a trouble maker for simply stating an obvious fact in the work place or even just a daily routine is socially unacceptable. All of this has resulted in a plethora of problems combined with a self serving government that only looks after itself. God I wish I could vote.

Too many apointees and LDP members adding bad press to his sliding numbers. He'll do what his predecessors always do, reshuffle the cabinet. Govt is so busy doing band aid work that they can never get around to addressing some of the nation's most serious, festering problems.

Kono will NEVER be PM. He is FAR TOO progressive for the LDP and not even a member of Nippon Kaigi

No one outside of Nippon Kaigi will ever be PM here

Governing Japan has to be the easiest job on the planet and yet they still can’t manage to do it. Japan is it’s own worst enemy. Homogeneous population, vast majority are law abiding and fearful of sticking a toe out of place. Hence the current political situation with a political class ALL in bed together in a pantomime perfected from decades of a family run business. It is what it is and will not change until the entire political set is changed but even if it were the new set would quickly settle into the exact same routine. Again pretty much like the rest of the worlds political elites but with a tiny bit more accountability and populations that are more easily provoked into action.

Keep messing things up BOJ and the LDP, headed by their ineffectual leader, as I’m loving that sinking yen!

This has been coming for a long time and everyday I change foreign currency into yen and it increases my standard of living!

Japanese people find it tough?

Well, they should do something about it!

You can do it better Kishi Kun !!.. Stop being US lapdog..

The LDP needs to select a strong yen, fiscal hawk as next PM, or the low poll ratings shall continue.

Back to keeping the seat warm for the next occupant.

You can bet that they are already negotiating in the evenings, as to who will be the next PM, and who will take the minister-level jobs, calling in debts and paying back favours.

The circle remains unbroken...

He is nobody now, Shinzo Abe died means he has lost all the support!

What has Kishida done in his 12 months as a PM apart from jetting around the world , promising new capitalism ( never delivered ) and watching the yen slide ever lower empoverishing the minions.

Well, he spent TONS of money on an extremely uselessly extravagant second funeral for Abe, and promised transparency into the Moonies affair as well as promising to deal with the LDP members who are affiliated with it. When he realized it was pretty much the whole party he conveniently shut up about it.

Kishida regime helps continuous of Unification Church virtually, does nothing necessary measures like that assists general public life, forces unnecessary policy to people to only benefit vested interests.

What gets me about Japanese politics is that whereas in the UK when the pound falls to its lowest level in history Liz Truss is under severe pressure and criticism, while in Japan when the same thing happens not even a bit of flack to Kishida. It’s ok to criticise the PM for doing a bad job..

Tory MPs in the UK know that if Liz Truss really screws everything up they could potentially lose their seats to a Labour Party that's consistently 20-30% ahead in opinion polls right now. The average LDP Diet member is in no such danger from the main opposition party, who may not even manage to put up a candidate against him. The PM may be losing support fast but LDP rule will continue and LDP seats will be safe, so the old boys don't care much.

Popularity is sliding along with the yen

Nepotism did not help.

Even if his ratings reach 1%, the LDP will still win the elections and form the Government! The majority of Japanese people will keep voting for LDP regardless of the fact that LDP never does anything good for them!

Quick, another report of NK attacks. Save yourself and your sons jobs.

Allow me to explain why this poll means nothing.

Notice the huge numbers missing from the poll? 27.4% plus 43%...where's the other 29.6%?? (They're there...they have no opinion for this poll...but they mostly and reflexively vote LDP come election time!)

27.4% plus a good chunk of that 29.6%...plus "proportional representation" and Komeito support = re-election. Sorry to burst your bubbles, folks, thought you all had the drill down by now....

No, they won't. In the last lower house election the turnout was only 55% and the LDP only got something like 49% of the vote in the single seat constituency elections. The majority of Japanese people do NOT support the LDP. Unfortunately we all seem to be stuck with them.
