Even if we are close to an election, there is so much ambivalence that the majority of people will continue to just not show up to vote. Meanwhile the right wing will be there for Abe guns blazing. That's how it is.

Many difficult issues in world economy, only in Japan the nuclear plants disaster still going on, the natural calamities of typhoons/floods/earthquakes intensely coming year by year, this momentum of panic from COVID-19 and presence of DT to be re-elected. Hmm, not a surprise up-to-date consensus...It isn't this Abe cabinet to be approved by rate but disapproval rate for Abe scandals never being disclosed , not a correct rate to any sane citizen.

Luckily, Japan doesn't start wars to guarantee an election.

Abe will rally old people support by bringing up NK abductions/Olympics and blaming foreigners for all their problems. "Nationalism---just like momma use to make!"

Also, there is the phenomenon that voters don't want to lose when voting, so they will not necessarily choose the best candidate for themselves. If feels like a waste of time to sit in line then your candidate loses.

So, they vote like they are betting at the race track. Unless it is a local election that is highly publicized like in Okinawa, Japanese people who vote choose people they think will win because most of the candidates don't have any real policies or stand for anything in particular, and voters don't expect much will change. That usually means the incumbents of the majority party will win.

Its time for Abe to impose new export control on Korea. The last one was phenomenally successful and it boosted Abe's approval rate. Besides, Japan stopped the flow of critical weapon components to North Korea! If Japan does it again, the rest of the world will look up to Japan for handling both Koreas in firm but fair hands. And the approval rate will go up.

Abe has been so focused on changing the Constitution vs his real government job. Time to go OUT, we know an Obama administration when we see one and so far it has gone that way with hot air coming out from Abe. Seriously how many meetings on "cherry blossoms" like other pressing urgent matters are not that important? Please.

I wonder what's happened to Abe's online supporters - I would have thought that a discussion thread like this might attract one or two of them, not to mention a dozen or so down suspicious votes for every critical comment. I suppose it must get awfully hard defending him when he gives them so little to work with, so perhaps they've got fed up and called it quits.

None of that really matters to Abe and the LDP though - by making sure their over-represented supporters are looked after election victory is guaranteed so there's no incentive to actually do a good job. They might try to pull their fingers out if there's any sign of masses of people turning out to vote for a unified, energised opposition party with a leader who makes Abe look like the mediocre lightweight he really is, but there's no chance of that happening,
