surprised he's got the time, what with Japan's quarantine rules and all...... (^_-)
Yrral
They will both be gone in the summer
Luddite
Will he be sent to a detention centre to quarantine on arrival?
Simon Foston
Why would that pillock be allowed in the country when no one else from the UK is?
Daninthepan
All over the country 9-year-old rugby players are quaking in their boots.
Tom Doley
Japan having not many friends in Asia is trying its best to attract muscular guys from far away for help in case of war.

As he's a non-resident, he shouldn't even be able to enter as he might be carrying all sorts of terrible viruses that are capable of turning negative during tests.
gokai_wo_maneku
And this is to distract everyone from what???
Sanjinosebleed
But he’s a foreigner! He won’t be allowed in…

Johnson should not be allowed to play rugby with children again.

How about a VIRTUAL visit to Japan?

Thought Japan's borders were closed to tourists and non-residents? Why does this donkey's behind get special treatment?

All night party at the British Embassy. Bring your own booze.

How will he quarantine for two weeks if the visit is scheduled for only two days?
Ingvar
Is he coming to beg?
Mr Kipling
I very much doubt that Boris will be PM in mid February. But, I thought he would be gone by now.

Usually a war will get troubled politicians off the hook. China?

Party preparations at Kishida’s ‘Downing Street’ bachelor pad are underway!
Jimizo
Hope he doesn’t get absolutely suitcased on the flight over.

Taking Covid-19 prevention measures seriously, for this meeting ‘requiring Johnson’s presence in country’, perhaps Japan has plans to create a ‘Boris Bubble’, confining him to isolated venues and conducting virtual meetings over Zoom. . .
itsonlyrocknroll
There is absolutely no logical explanation/reason why it is necessary for Boris Johnson to visit Japan in mid-February.
The top political diplomatic priority for EU/UK is the ongoing deteriorating situation in Ukraine.
Preparedness for a possible imminent invasion
Taking the immediate political diplomatic, military, intelligence, especially humanitarian steps to aid Ukraine.
US intelligence community has warning and briefed the media Russia government full intension could become apparent mid Feb.
So, to plant stories in the press of a visit to Japan is lunacy.
That before covid sticks its head up.
Johnson is playing games.

Am I the only one that has googled “ when is Kishida’s birthday”

I bet Bozza can't wait to board a plane (better than a refrigerator) to escape the storm he's been stirring up at home with his serial scandals, but let's hope he'll miss his (literal) flight in February owing to a sudden, long-overdue redundancy.
itsonlyrocknroll
The Japan Government should politely point out there are far more pressing antecedence Boris Johnson government have to focus on.
Hiding behind Mt Fuji, won't get the fleckless Johnson out the poo he himself is neck deep in.
shogun36
for what?
is he delivering valentine’s chocolates?

Welcome to Japan Bo Jo .

All who have the diplomatic immunity are no subject to quarantine
Alfie Noakes
When Japanese politicians are in trouble they hide in the hospital. Maybe lying Johnson is trying to start a new trend of British politicians hiding in Japan?
You know it!

Well... February 15th in Japan would be February 14th in jolly old England so perhaps Boris and Kishida are in love and meeting on valentine's day ?
Boris his hair is like DragonBall anime characters.
Silmey limey slithering to Japan.

"Japan’s image is quite favorable in most Asian-Pacific nations surveyed and the United States. About eight-in-ten in the Philippines and Australia report having a positive view of Japan. Roughly two-thirds of Americans and Indonesians also give Japan a favorable rating, and have since 2005."

Keep up Thomas Mountcastle. Diplomats not subject to Quarantine...which was cut to 7 days effective as of yesterday. Good chance that Hotel stays finish in March too.

As a Brit I ask… please don’t!
garypen
They should just do it via Zoom, Skype, etc.
Oh, that's right. Kishida's Toshiba Dynabook running Windows XP doesn't have a webcam, and his flip-phone doesn't support apps.

I do hope the chaps at RAF Valley invited Corporal Johnson (honorary) to Foxtrot Oscar.
Waiting for Roger, Wilco.

He wants to get drunk on sake & call it a work event !

”Godspeed” to the RAF and all AUKUS service members & civilian support staff serving your elected governments. Your service at home and abroad are respected by many. Thank you for your continued commitment to the greater good.
(Sadly, BoJo here harkens back to GWBush, circa May 2, 2003, in a flight suit.)

British PM Johnson plans to visit Japan in mid-February:
He and his Japanese counterpart can talk anything positive under the sun, but Tokyo should make double sure that he is not going to bring the 'Partygate' to seemingly innocent Japan and influence Japanese negatively..
Mickelicious
How's that Brexit dividend going?
Robert
The reason why, the UK government is trying scheme it's way in between the growing relationship between Australia and Japan, seeking to exploit it for the UKs benefit and just likely to do nothing but damage the relationship between Japan and Australia, in the process ie disrupting the process if it does not serve the UK governments interests or supporting it as long as the UK can parasite off it. Australia does the resource, Japan the manufacturing at they are both in much the same time zone with existing trade relations they need to protect from interference, to mutually benefit both countries.

Spaffer's hurriedly clearing his "work" schedule and stuffing his suitcase with his favorite outfits for every occasion 'cos he's heard you can party 24/7 in Japan without restrictions.
slowguy2
I'm afraid foreigners who have never actually experienced Japan "having a positive impression" of the country doesn't amount to much, when Japan is surrounded by countries that can only be described as enemies or potential enemies. And if ever Japan makes a move to take Dokdo ("Takeshima") and armed conflict breaks out, none of those "favorably disposed" countries would be silly enough to come to Japan's aid against the Koreas.
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
He's a globalist neo-con/neo-liberal tool. Of course he'll be welcome in Japan.
Numan
@Ego Sum Lux Mundi/dagon
Really?! Johnson and Kishida are both leaders of the conservative parties of their country. They are only liberal with prosecuting their own party members after being caught breaking the rules.
Johnson and Kishida need some good press for once. BJ and the British government realizes that Japan is too weak to criticize them. And, Japan needs some foreigners to tell them how great Japan and Japanese culture is.

Is he bringing his girlfriend on the trip and charging the governmeny like he has done before?

Johnson government is struggling to carry out the necessary function of administration and authority.
The Metropolitan police force is in a serious shameful leadership crisis.
The opposition to Johnson Government lead by lawyer Keir Starmer has no clear policy agenda that his party front bench actually agree on.
Not particularly encouraging is it!
Paul14
Is he still PM?
Numan
I think he is hoping to be quarantined, so he could get a mandatory staycation with his girlfriend and hide from the plebs back home!

But really, if ever Korea and Japan came to blows (most likely due to some Japanese regime having to prove its mettle against Korea), who is stupid enough to believe the anime- and kimono-loving crowds in the Pacific or Europe would actually intervene on Japan's behalf?
Robert Hope
Wouldn't be making too many long term plans Boris.
Hopefully by then his diplomatic immunity will have expired.
tinawatanabe
I think they (UK and US) are trying to make Japan pay for Ukraine.
Peter Neil
Is he giving thumbs up to celebrate getting in the helicopter without messing his hair?
tinawatanabe
Ukraine the other day asked Japan to get involved and UK' PM is coming. "Ukraine crisis" seems nothing but their business to extort Japan.

It appears that Putin and Xi have decided to coordinate military pressure on the free countries of the world, so it is appropriate that Britain and Japan discuss mutual defense. Once the Winter Olympics are over, I expect Xi to step up his saber rattling against the neighboring countries, starting with Taiwan.

Why does Johnson need to actually come over here to do that?

Kishida has the opportunity to improve the planet's appearance by springing for a session for Bo Jo with Tokyo's leading hair stylist.
