Well, I have livere long enough to see a lot and I can only explain this as comfort. Japanese were finally fed up with typical LDP garbage and when they finally elected a different party (DPJ) they got stuck with Hatoyama, a mama's boy moron who was woefully incompetent. He got it because Ozawa, who was SUPPOSED to be PM, just got into an accounting scandal.
After Hatoyama they got Noda and Kan... After all that, can you blame them for supporting the LDP again? Its the old "well, at least it isnt Hatoyama, right?" argument..

Don't be fooled by these poll numbers, 508 people responded, an average, if truly taken from "all" Japan, of roughly 11 respondents per prefecture. Nothing mentioned about, income, party affiliation, etc etc etc, but the numbers are high, suggesting a targeted audience.

no mention of the right winger school scandal anymore, wow! just ignore it, it will go away

The only consolation is that is a low and, most likely, unrepresentative sample.

Often, people don't like to stand out and since they are now told that most of population is apparently in support of Abe's cabinet, perhaps this media noise is purely used to get people to support them.

Their country, not mine. Couldn't give a hoot. You get what you deserve.

Yep. Proof that the J-public are brainwashed beyond hope, or that they enjoy suffering - or both. Either way there are sad, sad times on the horizon for Japan.

Here's a fact, the absence of any effective coherent functioning opposition leads to poor ineffective ruling government. What does the opposing parties to Abe LDP government actually stand for? Where are they?
They pop up every so often to ask the odd probing question, nod approvingly and pat each other on back, to signal they tripped up the government then go back to sleep. They're like the political eloquent of Dracula, only come out at night when the Diet building is closed
This survey proves, is no matter how inept, incompetent or hapless Abe cabinet becomes. No matter who lines up nest to blurt out any excruciating embarrassment or offense, the populous will approve mindlessly, then obediently queue up like lemmings marching to their fate.

Lol they started calling mobile phones for the first time and that represents a step toward youth? The only kind of person who would assume that is a very old person.
Newsflash! Old and young alike have cell phones.
These verbal "gaffes" are probably deliberate "feelers" to see what kind of things they can get away with, and if saying something offensive wil actually get you more supporters.
Right now I can recall Aso telling old people to die, countless slights against women single moms, and pregnant women, and Abe posing in a 731 numbered plane.

LOL, I don't know what's more laughable.
That I called this weeks ago to much disdain or that people are still suprised by these results. Welcome to the real Japan folks. Enjoy your stay!!

"The recent criticisms against the government seemed to have been alleviated as public attention turned to tension surrounding North Korea"
In other words, mission accomplished.

amazing.. what are they approving? the corruption or the higher taxes or the war-time forced patriotism doctrines?

Well there you have it. There is almost nothing the Abe cabinet can do that will lose him support with the Japanese people, so we might as well just give up hope for any kind of change in Japan. This news is so disheartening that people feel there is no other alternative or way, and that they trust this awful man and his band of incompetents!
koiwaicoffee
This is so terrible, it means that more than a half of the Japanese support war activities.
