She’s going to beat every single one of them of course. Unfortunately. She’s done a lot of favors

Tokyo is a very large enough to deserve a mid-size country status in terms of population and local GDP. The governor means president. Yet some candidates seem to consider the governorship as just a stepping stone for higher position at national levels. Beware that the four-year tenure could end suddenly and unilaterally.
My proposal (not materialized this time) is to introduce a primary to shortlist 3-5 candidates for resolving votes, or two-round system like one in France. In the current election, 21 are running while mainstream media should treat all of them equally.
Do the hustle
The number of eligible voters in the capital stood at about 11.47 million as of Wednesday,
Hopefully, Koike’s popularity will encourage more than 50% of the eligible voters to get off their couch and actually vote. I think it was around 47% when Koike got voted in.

@nori
are you proposing a long drawn out “democratic” process of fundraising, parties, luxury boats, resorts, bribes, etc.
i can see what might happen. 52nd state?

They are all more doodoo than do.
You may start this race an idealistic narcissist but to win it you have to be a broken compromised corrupt narcissist with a big tab to repay.

Testing System., what is that? Does it mean testing will increase? Not really, just a continuation of the present yoyo-system 40s yesterday, 20s today.

Wow, someone with a set of criminals actually proposed cancelling the Tokyo Olympics. If I had 100 yen for everyone that gives him the stink-eye over that proposal I could buy a nice house in 田園調布.

It's not a copycat of the US model. You will see how inefficient local media will have to cover all 21 candidates almost equally regardless of support base or own qualifications. It's rather embarrassing that some "indies" appear to run just for fun or with highly unrealistic pledge. Major and serious candidates and their election agenda, which I think should be carefully scrutinized or debated, would be"crowded out" due to miscellaneous ones.
While opting for fully open candidacy to anyone at entry, I believe that screening processes prior to the substantial round are also necessary. Or alternatively, more time for the election campaign should be allowed (currently only a two-week period).

@nori those were some pretty good proposals you made there. And I agree with that two round system like they have in France that you were talking about. And yeah, 21 candidates is much too much for any media to cover, even the US media where I’m from right now.
