Easing regional unnecessary tension and unwanted antagonism must be the top priority of China's Foreign Minister's agenda when visiting Tokyo. But it would not be easy at all, he has to be tough..

Why ? All diplomats work hard for peace, why not Japanese diplomats ?

Japan work for China's entry in the CPTTP. At the same time, Japan should increase her Military might to protect her interests.

China needs to work hard to back up, its been pushing its weight around and bullying everyone in the region for far too long. No one else is after a war but china keeps talking it up.

This is simultaneously a good and bad development with regards to Japan.

Why is PM Suga not inviting democratic ROC-Taiwan's Foreign Minister Dr. Joseph Wu for a visit too?

I do agree China has been more aggressive in the past few years.

I don't agree with how CCP party handles many issues from Hong Kong to Tibet, Taiwan, Philippines, their president (Duterte) was very pro China, and somehow Xi is messing up that relationship, too.

Let China join TPP or the new name CPTPP, we can't fix all the issues with China, many of them are internal issues they have.. But we can definitely make sure they don't cross certain red lines like attack Taiwan, Vietnam, Philippines or India, again.

Japan itself is restricted under article 9. We are doing our best to balance China, keep the peace, try to descalate the trade war between USA and China, keep economies, and partnerships going for the past 4 years under Trump. TPP survived because of Japan when USA said No more we are out.

Nothing more than a holiday for the CCP vampires who come. Nothing more. They can stock up on baby formula, masks to sell on Alibaba and cosmetics for their mistresses and some cognac for themselves.

China has the money and Japan wants it and China knows it.

Look what China did to the world...Have we forgot already?. They allowed the virus to escape on purpose to the rest of the world. The Dragon Rules What will they do next?

Motegi should also address HK where trials for activist leaders have just started. Silence means automatic acknowledgement and complicity.

LOL. China is doing the Wolf warrior diplomacy thingy now. Work hard for peace? Please do not embarrass yourself, Akie.

Yep, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who knew this was going to happen.

Great powers are always criticized. Sounds like some of the criticism on here are from people who can't believe an Asian country that had little pull 30 years ago is now dominating their lives. Look around you almost everything is made in China. They are building great and wonderful buildings and construction in a short time. The Uk can't get Crossville completed nor a new runway for the busiest airport in the world.

He said he would have a "frank exchange" of views on bilateral relations with Wang, including on how to resume traffic between the two countries during the pandemic.

A lot of foreign residents in China including Japanese nationals have all of a sudden "vanished" from the street, with some lucky ones later discovered at detention houses, for unreasonable charges, arrested without warrant. This problem should be frankly discussed, accounted for and resolved prior to re-opening. I'm more upset that Japanese officials have remained reluctant or silent on it.

Lamilly

The UK doesn’t have more than a million people in prison camps because of their religion either, so there’s that.

“Wang will fly to South Korea after Japan, for talks that will include North Korea.”

So over here we don’t talk about the dinosaurus in the neighbourhood?

Wang doesn't give a Dang he has specific orders and that is to promote the best interest of China in other words he is only there to listen to hear what Suga has to say. This is just a courtesy trip because of the US administration is changing and China is just trying to see where Japan stands.

Not true, IMHO.

China took huge steps to control the virus as much as possible. They also had some failures with the virus, but acting like they didn't quarantine cities with millions of people quickly is a fairly huge govt reaction.

Imagine if Europe or the US had patient zero. Would they have closed and quarantined entire cities as quickly? Nope.

China has plenty of things we can be unhappy about, including some related to COVID, but "letting it escape" isn't in that list. The early official statements were cautious, but any govt would have done the same.

Would be nice if Japan formally recognized Taiwan as a country during the diplomatic visit. The rest of the world should too, soon. The current situation is a farce.

@ReasonandWisdomNippon: TPP did NOT survive because of Japan.

the Fu said "Would be nice if Japan formally recognized Taiwan as a country during the diplomatic visit. The rest of the world should too, soon. The current situation is a farce."

Japan has to be a lawful UN member to recognize China as the only govt for China. Japan can change anything no matter what, let alone there is no such a thing as Taiwan country.

Mr Wang will go to Korea tomorrow. He will not play Japan against Korea, or vice versa. China will play positive role in promoting a United Northeast Asia. I fully believe that.

The people saying China let it escape are all supporters of a given political "leader" in a given country. It's an attempt to place the blame on anyone other than their Dear Leader for his ineptitude in dealing with the virus.

Taiwan is a beautiful country. And without the ridiculous religion built up around Mao and how awesome he was (even though he murdered millions of Chinese through his policies, which was the precursor to thousands of students being gunned down in Tienanmen Square), Taiwanese people are much easier to talk to than the Chinese.

Great first step.
