I think everyone is rightly concerned about the aggressive threat that China is becoming in the region.

I think that more trade is likely a good thing though, as it will give China invested interests in not pissing off their trade partners.

Why are some people so angry about good relationship between Japan and China ? What are they afraid of ?

what you write is true to a certain extent; but there are new markets opening up and devleoping all the time that will take over china's role...bangladesh, vietnam, cambodia, etct to name a few that the capitalist global economy will be keen to exploit in the future...

no, the key point is that you dont have to move ALL production out of china. even a relatively small fraction (granted, more than 5%, say 30%) of lost production/revenue/jobs will make the populace stand up and push against the ccp. the people will revolt when they see their livelihood wasting away after just a third of china's share of global production packs up and moves the eff out of china. when enough people realize it was the actions of the ccp on the world stage that was the cause of their demise beginning in 2020, the ccp will be facing a real challenge: threat of collapse from within---its why china is struggling to forge fresh new economic ties--with its mortal enemy japan of all countries--at a time like this because they need to prevent any domestic uprising.

Six months of nobody trading with China is all it would take to reset their perspective.

Wrong

The reality is the today’s world cannot live without China .

Because China is the factory of the world which means most of the daily necessities in the world are made in China. from clothes to farm tractors from table lamp to iPhones it’s almost impossible to avoid made in China goods in daily life for anyone in the world and China's position cannot be replaced by any country in short term. For example if you move just 5% of China’s productivity to Vietnam Vietnam will be full.

Many people believe it’s big companies like GM or Boing they make tons of money in China are the greatest oppositions from decoupling from China. That’s not the whole story big companies will feel fain from leaving China but they can survive easily they will miss Chinese market but they will move on. It is ordinary people who needs China most because people cannot live without daily necessities like clothes. And more than clothes China controls many critically important resources and industries like Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients in pharmaceutical industry without Chinese api you can’t make many essential drugs like antibiotic which the US needs desperately right now. Experts estimate it will take at least 5-10 years for US to be self efficient without China’s api. This is why decoupling from China is impossible.

Good. China will help Japan, no matter what. 3000 years history is my evidence.

Your evidence is faulty. It is Japan that will help China.

In your dream. Japan has no capacity against China. That is the fate.

Japan has a sizable capacity against China, that is the fact.

What credibility ? Japan is a rule based country, and has to follow international laws. Taiwan isn't democratic at all. If it were, she would reunite with mainland long ago.

Japan generally follows international laws. Taiwan is democratic, China is not. Taiwan will not reunite with the mainland until it is free and democratic like Taiwan is.

Some commenters should write fact not fantasy.

The reality is China is untrustworthy and desires a Chinese hegemony across the world. Nobody will allow that to happen.

Japan's soft power is much greater than that of China in this part of the world. More importantly, Japan has played a major role in forming the QUAD. Hung Nguyen Nov 25, 2020 at 9:34 am JST

As a critic of China, I highly doubt at this statement. In the last decade, Japan has furthered its corporate expansion into China. The Keidanren keeps lobbying favorable deals for China. QUAD is the brainchild of the China hawks in the Pentagon, not Japan. In fact, Japan is hesistant to join the anti-China choirs. And they even refuse to remove Chinese telecoms from Japan networks. Septim Dynasty Nov 25, 2020 at 12:31 pm JST

Septim Dynasty, First, I find it quite inappropriate when you provided the business trend of Japanese corporations in the last decade as a counterargument to the current trend of the same corporations since the COVID pandemic in the early of 2020. Second, I did not say that Japan was the mastermind of the QUAD. Rather, I only stated "Japan has played a major role in forming the QUAD." More importantly, I hope that you need to understand in what context my statements were made.

By all means let's support the CCP and their slave labor factories, killing people for the body organ trade, genocide of Muslims, Tibetans, Hmong, and Tamilpur Indians.

I suppose Japan can looks forward to a new cooperative era with totalitarian China AND together with a rise in extremism from the right AND left in Japan.

Wang defended China’s coast guard patrols in the area. “We have a clear position in this regard. We will certainly continue to safeguard our sovereignty,” he said.

It's now de facto military coast guard which is heavily armed. The PRC had never recognised the islets until the 1970s while Japanese had long resided there for fishery.

Everybody knows that Beijing has been taking advantage of the virus crisis, fully unware of or downplaying mounting grudges outside China. So long as they continue to be complacent and provocative, payback time and regret will be inevitable.

Great.

A country that does whatever it wants and ignores any consequences or is oblivious to what it has done in 2020.

They are joining forces with, a country that doesn't know how to adapt and learn throughout history, and also refuses to pay attention to the outside world.

Sounds like a match made in hell.

Together China and Japan will stay strong. Thanks for the ever-lasting friendship

Money rules. Not mores. Not ethics. Not national security.

True story, my friend.

Japan's soft power is much greater than that of China in this part of the world. More importantly, Japan has played a major role in forming the QUAD.

As a critic of China, I highly doubt at this statement. In the last decade, Japan has furthered its corporate expansion into China. The Keidanren keeps lobbying favorable deals for China. Not to mention many Japanese businesses are either owned by Chinese or relied on Chinese consumers to stay alive. This is hardly a sign of power, more like a sign of vassalage.

I would rather bet on India; however, they are exceptionally neutral.

Japan needs to be very careful about who it gets into bed with. China's money buys a tremendous amount of influence, in politics, business, the media and academia. Influence of that kind always translates into power.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

China should first indemnify the whole world for the plague they created and spread all over. But so far China even did not explain where in Wuhan came from. Such an arrogant behavior

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Chinese business men will come in and buy up more of bankrupt small businesses as they have been doing.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Every time I see Japan and China in a picture like this one, I always get the impression that they really don't like each other but agree to economically cooperate but only because they have to.

There's never any sense of "real" friendship no matter how mutually beneficial it would be.

Akie Nov 25, 2020 at 09:34 am JST

In your dream. Japan has no capacity against China. That is the fate.

Akie, your vision is quite limited indeed.

Even though Japan itself cannot match up with China in terms of hard power, through strengthening its relationship with nations in the Southeast Asia region over the past several decades in terms of political, security, and economic cooperation, Japan's soft power is much greater than that of China in this part of the world. More importantly, Japan has played a major role in forming the QUAD.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

When the CCP is dead and buried, then Japan should cooperate with China. Until then, treat China as you would treat an unhinged sociopath.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Well this a sharp turn for Japan. I guess its a... if you can't beat "em" join "em" thing. Let's be-friend China they have the cure to virus. I mean no cases in Beijing right? Beijing. Total cases 950 Recovered 936 Deaths 9.

China won a global economical war with launching one bio weapon.

In your dream. Japan has no capacity against China. That is the fate.

@Akie, First off. I have a serious problem with your communist bully statement. Your Naval forces are not that mighty. Not yet anyways. I can assure you Japan with her allies and her economy can damage China severely if it ever came down to it. Japan has very high capacity to defend her lands and her people.

China just advanced its knight on the Chess board. I wonder how American diplomats are feeling about this move Japan just made?

Hiro S Nobumasa said "Japan's credibility will suffer if a similar arrangement is not made with the democratic Island Republic of Taiwan-ROC."

What credibility ? Japan is a rule based country, and has to follow international laws. Taiwan isn't democratic at all. If it were, she would reunite with mainland long ago.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Japan's credibility will suffer if a similar arrangement is not made with the democratic Island Republic of Taiwan-ROC.

Australia and India would find it strange that Tokyo is embracing an enemy but blocking a similar move with the most Nippon friendly country in the whole world.

Hung Nguyen said "China desperately needs this kind of quick deal with Japan before Biden's China policy taking shape. I hope that whatever Japan has agreed with China, they should not compromise the active role of Japan in confronting China's maritime expansion in the Southeast Asia Sea."

China is out of support that’s y all this politics Japan should should show China how two sides of coin looks by using yes n no policy no export means chinas dries up that’s y all this desperate moves by China to find some friends

This Chinese foreign ministry’s visit to Japan dinting pandemic outbreak indicates their strong impatience by surrounding by counter influence.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

China is spinning a ‘gentle web’ around Japan...like a venomous spider! Once imprisoned Japan will have its life blood sucked out until an empty shell remains! Then China will fill it with its needs and aspirations! China is a sworn enemy and cannot be trusted...Japan needs to remain vigilant and smart!

8 ( +9 / -1 )

How about we just ask China to stop releasing viruses for a start?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Never trust communist, never trust China, all the good people on this planet please unite and don't be fooled by Chinese nice words. Their actions are brutal it is a way to hell. Please

8 ( +10 / -2 )

This China can not be trusted. In every possible way they want to gain power over other nations. They are destroying and silencing other nations and cultures.

i prefer to think this is not the will of most Chinese people but only that of a minority. Time will tell and I am stil waiting to see Akie reveal his real name. If you are that proud of the current regime and actions from your country , stand up and be counted

10 ( +12 / -2 )

"Just tread carefully Japan with dealing with China, that’s all I’m saying"

and let me add, I have a kick butt military to defend your interests.

not all-lie relationship

Than China should start to make a biiiiig improvement!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I understand that the Japan should try to keep a good relationship with it’s neighborhoods but at this time with with the middle of a pandemic allow more Chinese, the country where all this was started shows how little interest they have for the safety of their own population and care only about the pennies.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

As for the territorial matter:

Motegi ... reiterated Japan’s position and (asterisk)strongly urged China to take a forward-looking action." Wang defended China’s coast guard patrols in the area. “We have a clear position in this regard. We will certainly continue to safeguard our sovereignty,” he said.

That means Motegi merely repeated the Senkaku Islands are Japan's sovereign territory, to which Wang countered, saying "We have a clear position in this regard. We will certainly continue to safeguard our sovereignty."

What will come of such conversation? Pointless bickering will keep going on in the future for sure.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@Akie - this is true. China should stop lying and Japan should stop as well.

Opening up is understand but the uncertainties and some of the restrictions on foreign Permanent Residents remain in effect.

Japan is moving toward China; Japan will move where the money is.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

For the future generations, Japan and China need to establish permanent friendship, not all-lie relationship.

-5 ( +9 / -14 )

The foreign ministers of Japan and China agreed Tuesday to cooperate in fighting the coronavirus

If Japan is serious about that, than keep people from Mainland China out of Japan.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

Six months of nobody trading with China is all it would take to reset their perspective.

13 ( +17 / -4 )

The LDP considering allowing more Chinese nationals in with viral infections rising in Japan?

Where will they go?

Maybe they’ll go to Hokkaido or Osaka-those places where Japanese are being de incentivized to go...

5 ( +11 / -6 )

As much as I understand why Japan is doing this, I would be a bit more cautious in terms of dealing with China, matter what the economy is like. Because first of all, the virus originated from China, no matter how you believe it started. And secondly, there’s a history of them not honoring their promises and agreements with other countries, get another reason to be careful. Not to mention human rights issues in Hong Kong and especially with the Uighurs.

Just tread carefully Japan with dealing with China, that’s all I’m saying.

9 ( +15 / -6 )

Good. China will help Japan, no matter what. 3000 years history is my evidence.
