It will be interesting to see how NHK will tackle this issue given their...ahem..."connections"
Yasuhiko Tajima, a Sophia University professor specializing in media theory, said he is against setting an outright ban on broadcast advertising, given that ads are "a crucial part" of freedom of expression.
That is just a ridiculous thing to say. And this guy is a prof???
I think that all political advertising on TV should be banned for the very reasons stated in the last paragraph in this article. It shouldn't be about who has the fattest wallet.

They have debates on TV on Sunday mornings. Its called 日曜討論 I think.
But we had debates here in the US in 2016 and we still ended up with the current President, so I'm not sure debates really mean much.

Abe and his conspiratorial revanchist allies are patently conjuring up the avatar of Leni Riefenstahl from the fetid swamp of slimy money politics to bring us "The Triumph of THEIR Will Redux". Despite the soothing assurances and blandishments emanating from academia, pols and media, the Japanese people should be afraid, very afraid of what is being plotted above the clouds in the Japanese "Game of Thrones".

NHK connections? Yes they are a propaganda arm of the LDP as proven in the past several times in cases where NHK sought opinions from the LDP on if content was suitable before being broadcast. In one case they were caught changing a program as the LDP asked them to and apologized for it.

once again take months to solve something that takes 1 second. Just ban the ads. Done and done

Not possible. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend - and Abe is no friend of Japan.

Thanks for that. Do you know if any of them discussed the revision?
Fair enough, although I don't know if I'd call them debates. The whole election was like a TV reality show.

a crucial part" of freedom of expression.
Hah! freedom of expression does not exist in Japan.
If it did and they were serious about it, they would actually have DEBATES on TV on WHY the article needs to change, the same way as there were debates on the Scottish Ref and Brexit.
NO. This is about the NHK promoting Abe's View of what article 9 needs to look like.

So you admit NHK is Abe's enemy.

If you think Abe has connections with NHK, you don't speak Japanese.
NHK is Abe's and Japan's enemy.
