LOL, more comments from the spectrum, brain damage, and from a leader of more brain damaged cronies. For decades the CCP destroyed Chinese culture, killed tens of millions of Chinese, and now all of a sudden is the saviour of Chinese legacy?

Mr Xi, your party helped Japanese invaders by sabotaging the KMT, who were busy defending China. This is the legacy of the CCP no matter how much time passes.

according to Chinese sources familiar with the situation

And who would be those sources who have access to the CCP internal confidential documents, and how does a news wire reporter (there isn't even a name which tells us who wrote this article) then get in touch with them so he can write up a story and tell Japanese and western audiences exactly what they want to hear in order to justify the words and actions of US/Japanese conservatives?

Until the so-called sources can be confirmed as reliable this is just something that has been typed onto a computer by an unnamed "news reporter."

It’s historically Chinese so what is all the fuss?

@Rodney

It’s historically Chinese so what is all the fuss?

The Diaoyu Islands belong to the Republic of China, not People's Republic, per the terms of Japan's surrender.

-17 ( +4 / -21 )

By building bases on these pristine islands, the PRC is committing ecological Armageddon.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

China has a historically duty to takeover US hegemony to lead the human race in 21st century!

Documents show Xi vowed to secure interests over Senkakus as China's historical duty:

Probably so.

During & after 20th Congress, Xi's clouded vision is back to Mao's peak days in early 1960's.

Somehow his absolute power may put China in regress gear mode, not just politically.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Japan needs no other encouragement to build bases in the Senkaku's than Jinping's commitment to take them from Japan. Put radar and missile systems all over those islands for area denial of ships and aircraft. Put a 7/11 or Family mart there for the soldiers based there and have a fishing processing plant there for the local catch.

The time for Japan to act is now, before China does. Waiting until China makes its move would be wrong and ill advised.

China will object and send a heap of ships and it will make no difference once Japan is firmly ensconced on the Islands it administers and claims. Any hostile move to stop Japan will ensure the US enters the dispute as it continually restates its defense of Japan including the Senkaku's.

Taiwan is yours, why do you want more?

-21 ( +1 / -22 )

There has to be a much stronger and concerted effort to reign in China. This Xi-male needs a good betch-slap from the international community to set him straight.

No it's not. PRC (China) maps up to the late 1960s show them marked as Japanese.

Samit BasuToday  09:47 am JST

The Senkakus are Japanese and always have been. Only territories taken by Japan through war or greed could be taken away at the end of WWII. The Senkakus were exempt.

However Taiwan has historically also fished these waters, which is the basis of their claim. The US in order to maintain relations with Taiwan abstained from calling the Senkakus Japanese territory but recognized Japanese Administration over them. The PRC on the other hand usurped Taiwan's claim seeing the strategic value in breaking the First Island Chain. Taiwan and Japan made an agreement concerning the fisheries issues.

The Senkakus fall under Article 5 of the US-JPN Mutual Defense Treaty. China can call it theirs but any attempt to take them militarily will trigger a wsar with the United States.

That area is of course Japanese. It got into US possession as a result of WW2 war activities and that was also fixed in the aftermath treaties then, and ownership and administrative rights have been later handed over to Japan together with the other Okinawa and Yaeyama islands. It’s never been property or had ownership of PRC or ROC and it’s also not affected by other treaties like the Shimonoseki or San Francisco ones.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

It’s historically Chinese so what is all the fuss?

What you're advocating is not history. This is the narrative of an amoeba claiming everything on the planet belongs to it. Is this you?

History is in the making, that's why they call it history.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Taiwan is yours, why do you want more?

LOL, China has never ruled Taiwan, in fact if any one is to rule Taiwan, it would be USA, because Japan conquered the entire western Pacific, then surrendered to USA. Various territories have had formal treaty signed to clarify jurisdiction, Taiwan was never ratified under any treaty. Even USA/China normalisation did not hand over Taiwan to China, let alone the CCP.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Puny, silly, laughable man. Just when we need wisdom from leaders in the world we get a bunch of incompetent loudmouths and bullies.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

War monger. This sort of behavior will ensure China’s decline in the annals of history, once again.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

China has a historically (sic) duty to takeover US hegemony

For historical, read hysterical.

Over the years there have also been a number of articles naming "sources familiar with the situation" which claimed for example that so and so had angered Kim so he had them executed, only for those people to later emerge at public events in perfect health.

So all the people pontificating here about an article which is credited to no one is pretty ridiculous.

Is Xi demon love child of Mao as Mao was addicted to women n murder n he didn’t murder senior n junior Xi when he purge them n Xi also wants to cling on power till he dies

This pathetic Dictator should concentrate all his efforts in ensuring that all Chinese people can enjoy a good standard of living in their country, free from the sinister eavesdropping and surveillance which characterises every village, town and city throughout the land.

If he professes to claim that their Communism creates complete fairness and equality for all, then I think there's another revolution coming down the tracks...... the people will tire of his total repression regime, hopefully.

China is a bully and anytime will try to surprise Japan by militarily taking over the Senkaku's. What Japan should do is fortify the Senkaku's and project full military power that can make china think twice before behaving stupid. create a strong military zone and start exploiting the gas and oil resources in the surroundings to show full control and management of the senkaku's.

Simple be terrifyingly armed to protect your sovereignty

Napoleon supposedly said, "Let China sleep, for when she wakes, she will shake the world."

It may be inevitable that China will develop into a global super power, but it is not inevitable that that power will be used wisely, as Mr. Xi has, unfortunately, demonstrated.

Napoleon supposedly said, "Let China sleep, for when she wakes, she will shake the world."

He was wrong. He should have said Russia.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

My prediction is Xi will take back the land that Russia took from China when they were at war in 1969 near the China/Russian border. Xi always smiles at Putin but little does he know that snicker and handshake is saying thank you, but your turn is coming just further down on my list but you are next . Xi has no respect for Putin he see's him as his puppet on a string now.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

This is concerning but we saw how they quickly took over Hong Kong. I doubt any country will stand in China's way. At this point China knows they can do whatever they want, they have the power now to keep or destroy world order/peace. I'll pray for Japan. By the end of this century Asia will be very different. Heck, Korea might even become part of China like in the old days...

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

@venze -- "Somehow his absolute power may put China in regress gear mode"

Somehow = Xi surrounding himself with "yes" men who only tell him what wants to hear. That mistake will propagate all the way down the power pyramid.

@kaimychal - China won that war in 1969 "Zhenboa (Damansky) Island" which was recognized by Russia in a 2005 peace treaty. In 10 or 20 years Siberia will be run Chinese workers and you know what comes after that.

Why does Japan not just give Senkaku to China as a gift? It is only as important as a big stone. China will appreciate it and show her appreciation in ways that will suprise Japan.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

All the justification Japans leaders need to finally act and proactively defend the islands, but will they?

charles chevaux, I suspect you are right.

Actually I think the whole Taiwan situation now is about semiconductors. For better or worse, Taiwan has irreplaceable technology at the moment. Hong Kong has no such paramount strategic importance to the West.

Watch China continue its economic slide as it become less of a global menace.

Another good reason for the F-15E squardons to leave Kadena and close the bases. That will help prevent a major war with China. Aplies to South Korea. Get rid of the mercinay US Military from Asia Pacific.

Japan can take care of itself like the Ukraine and weapons will be supplied from the USA

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Why does Japan not just give Senkaku to China as a gift?

Why should it? China should just admit it belongs to Japan and walk away.

It is only as important as a big stone.

Yet China still wants it.

China will appreciate it and show her appreciation in ways that will suprise Japan.

No, it wont. Any show of appreciation would be fleeting and meaningless. China wants the fishing grounds and under sea resources.

China could go a long way in gaining Japanese trust by removing it's claim to Senkaku's. But China is not that smart and does not think much of Japan. Not enough to give Japan a big stone.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It’s historically Chinese so what is all the fuss?

There is zero historical evidence that any Chinese person has ever even set foot on the islands.

Why does Japan not just give Senkaku to China as a gift?

Why don't you give everyone here $1000 as a gift?

China will militarize any island as they have proven to expand their influence, control and territorial claims. Furthermore, the Senkakus are part of Okinawa Prefectuer which houses the largest US military presence in Asia and gateway hub to regional operations. The odds of China "taking" the Senkakus is zero.

That's right, remove the only obstacle to the territorial and military expansion of the world's most powerful dictatorship. LOL
