So I'm guessing he's just not going to open his mouth.

Wonder if Trump will follow his lead?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Ruling over a country with good economic growth and having been elected; the President doesn't need to worry about anything!

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

He's been asking different nations to rebuild Marawi. I just wish for a thorough auditing by COA without outside intimidation. I'm just afraid a large unaccounted funds would be untraceable much worse than previous administrations. this will be his second visit to Japan. Will he topped ex Pres Arroyo who did a handful of visits here?

Don't make promises you can't keep, Mr Dutourette.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Then he will not spit chewing gum to the Emperor!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

It’s good that he’s acknowledging his problems before the meeting, but yeah not totally convinced he won’t do something stupid

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Photo Caption: that’s how much I’ll open my mouth.

I wonder if the emperor will suffer a severe “cold” just before Duterte arrives, thus giving the IHA a reason to cancel his visit?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

"I suppose that I have to limit my mouth there, except maybe to bring the warm greetings of the Filipino nation, a grateful nation to Japan,"

Don't even bother doing that. Just keep your trap shut. If you can

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Bet the Emperor was hoping he could abdicate before having to meet Duterte and Dodgy Don.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

He’s no fool. He spews his dribble at the times that it benefits him.

Now when he is hanging with the Philippines biggest trading partner..

All the members of my origami say they have problem if he opens his mouth when he meets Abe though.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

With his admission that 3 out of 5 of his statements are lies, let us see. He is a pathological liar.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Sending this lunatic to meet the Emperor and following him with the even bigger lunatic Trump. I think maybe the government is trying it's best to get the Emperor to succumb in his old age before he can retire.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Before he shakes hands with anyone, I hope he's given a steaming hot oshibori to wipe the blood off his hands.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

I thought criminals weren’t allowed into ‘strict’ Japan. Oh wait, a president openly killing people in the Philippines doesn’t count.

Meeting with the emperor? Why?

To those who've been brainwashed into believing that Duterte merely kills for no reason, read this: over 1.5M druggies surrendered voluntarily; over 200,000 arrested (alive!); and the 13k deaths u read in the papers include those that are not drug-related but being highlighted by biased (and probably paid) media and election losers as murders. Actual figures are only 4k in police encounters.

This president just defeated ISIS in Marawi, rescued thousands of hostages despite them being used as human shields and yet some people here just want to talk about chewing gum?

Duterte refused to bomb the mosques which were being used as ammo depots and snipers nest because of the presence of the hostages inside yet people here call him a cold killer?

Your delusions of grandeur and holier than thou mentality is not only making one a hypocrite but the most lowly of spirit whose bravado is fed by ignorance and the biased media.

Fortunately, His Royal Highness , the Emperor sees a true Samurai and not the media-bullied president in Duterte.

At the end of the day this is all that counts.

The hypocrites can continue to be hypocrites to their satisfaction but they will never be deserving enough to be granted an audience with the Emperor.

"Do-dirty" Duterte is an erratic, delusional demagogue, a loose cannon that can go off at any time. Abe's government should have kept its distance from this thoroughly unsavory character with the blood of thousands of innocents on his hands as his venal visit does no honor to the Emperor, or the people of Japan. I would like to see a big anti-Duterte demonstration on the Tokyo streets ( as there would be if showed his face in a European country), but most Japanese will be either too busy working, or blithely unaware of the moral issues involved.

As for his most vocal critic (Aquino's Justice Secretary) she's in jail now, not as retaliation but for her obvious but as yet proven-in-court connection with the drug trade. Trial is pending as she's looking for technicalities to avoid trial. For how could a prison lifer cut a record, make music videos, hold concerts, bring women, sell drugs, and even have a photo op with her, all while she was Justice Sec? And this same critic was in an adulterous relationship with her driver, who in turn recommended the prisons director at that time?

This is why Du30's haters are turning the tables and doing all they can to make him appear murderous and corrupt. Whatever u read esp in Time, Newsweek and NYT is manufactured by their propagandists. They accuse Du30 of tyranny and dictatorship even as they are free to travel and spread lies. They accuse him of crimes and ask him to disprove the accusations instead of proving their allegations. Laughable! At least Du30 follows through with his threats to CRIMINALS, and that's what these Aquino carryovers are afraid of.

@ puregaijin

I think your photo caption might possibly be erroneous? I think this was more likely a salacious Duterte joke about Johnsons ( or Trump?).

A poster here said that a demonstration against Duterte is guaranteed if he goes to Europe. (Surprisingly, he didn't include USA!)

He randomly calls him a killer of thousands of innocents even without solid proof.

Yes, your saliva is cheap!

Yes, Duterte vows to kill people who wants to destroy the youth of his country. What's wrong with that?

Compare that with the coalition of European countries that wantonly bombed and massacred thousands of innocent women and children in Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria that did not commit even any iota of a crime.

Where is your principle of justice?

Your kinda accusations are good only before internet where you can monopolize the media and easily spread your propaganda as the holy gospel just like the so-called 'sneak attack' and liberation of Okinawa that turns up to be colonization up to this very day.

Sorry my friend, those days are way over!

The Japanese people and the rest of the world are now so aware of your propaganda that many would like you to swallow your saliva to where it may belong.

Being a full pledged hypocrite nowadays is so plain easy to see clearly.

Too many idiots here commenting against Duterte Gawd, idiots wears bravery behind the keyboard. Why don't ya'll just adopt a drug addicted person or a rapist or any criminals to your home and see for yourself what good they can do for you or to humanity? Then update us here so we could see if they are all better than Duterte?

The problem is the people that Duterte and co. are killing / killed were still "SUSPECTED" criminals. please define SUSPECTED. They are not proven guilty yet, but they were already executed. What if they are Innocent!? We all don't like drug addicts and criminals. But we have a LAW to follow . I think executing a suspected criminal and  prove if this person is innocent or not sounds more stupid to me than commenting against this monster (he truly deserves it).
