The EU has better trade balance with China than the US.

in the face of the protectionism of Trump's "America First" administration

What world leader does not consider his country first? This is ridiculous reporting

In Tokyo, talks will also focus on presenting a united front against the United States over its tariffs, with the Japanese government having slammed them as "extremely deplorable".

Japan's tariffs are much higher, so are you also "deplorable?"

The rest of the world is moving on without America, which now finds itself “first” in a room by itself.

Excellent news. Fight trump with fire.

It reminds me the simple advice you get in childhood

When you have money all will be your friend, When you want some help all will be have different reason to distance themselves.

no country in the world gives more government subsidies and tax breaks to its auto and agriculture industries than the US. making prices in these sectors artificially low and their exports. whats deplorable is America harps on about free/fare trade and they dont practice this themselves.

The rest of the world has been getting screwed on trade by the US. Proof is that they have the largest economy in the world. Trump is right that trade needs to be renegotiated, but we need to renegotiate it to stop being cheated by the US.

From now on, any time any extremist right-winger tries to repeat the fallacy that America is being screwed, the rest of us need to speak the truth and point out how America is screwing the rest of us. America is most definitely our foe, and we need to redistribute their trade to the rest of us and stop being screwed by America.

Copy this post. Paste it repeatedly when they try to speak their lies. This is a war that is being fought in the public opinion, and we cannot afford to let them win this war that they have been winning until Trump pointed it out.

You can still watch your Jerry Springer, smoke a dooby, then put on your mask and go cause trouble in the streets, use a lot of foul language, maybe destroy a few store fronts, then go get some pancakes.

Or you could do the right thing and rail on about the deep state and tower seven, right?

They are meeting to talk about America's protectionism. This is a laughing joke. First they should talk about their own long time, on going, protectionism which creates for them huge annual trade surpluses in their favor, brought about by unfair trade.

The rest of the world has been getting screwed on trade by the US. This is not a correct statement, one should study import, export trade statistics between countries and their protectionist restrictive trade barriers, many hidden.

These hidden trade barriers, with unreasonable requirements, are more detrimental to free trade than the tariffs themselves.

America has the largest economy in the world right now due to screwing the rest of the world with their trade policies. We cannot let this go on any longer.

Let's speak the truth, America's trade deficit last year alone was 800 billion dollars. It is time for a fair playing field with truly free and fair trade.

Not sure that the EU's own trade policies stand up to much scrutiny.  Plenty of tariffs and other barriers to trading into the EU.  Plus farming subsidies and so on.

Personal story   Friend of mine was here and I bought him 2 little stauettes in bronze of temple gods.  Sent them to him in Germany.  Value about EUR 100.   German customs levied a 50% import duty on them, even though they were marked as a gift.........  Not even in Japan.

Let's speak the truth

Ok, America has been screwing the rest of the world for too long, resulting in them having the largest economy in the world. We need to redistribute their income to make trade more fair for the rest of us. There is your truth.

America's trade deficit last year alone was 800 billion dollars.

Which as any economist will tell you is not the indicator of trade success. No, success is measured by he who makes the most money off the deal, and with America having the largest economy in the world, it's very clear that it is America that has been screwing the rest of the world. This is a war, and America is our enemy.

It is time for a fair playing field with truly free and fair trade.

You're right, which is why we cannot afford to let America continue to screw the rest of us on trade.

These hidden trade barriers

Where are they hiding? What are they?

These hidden trade barriers

 What are they?

such as Japanese language is different from English or that Japanese people prefer smaller cars, etc.

Europe and China would not be where they are today if it wasn't for US... being pig headed about US are not in the best interest of the new Euro-China alliance.

After upgrading growth projections for the euro area in the April WEO, the IMF revised them down by two-tenths in 2018 to 2.2 percent, due to "negative surprises to activity in early 2018," and another tenth in 2019 to 1.9 percent.

The estimates for Germany, France and Italy were cut by 0.3 points each, with Germany seen expanding by 2.2 percent this year and 2.1 percent in 2019. France's GDP is expected to grow 1.8 percent and 1.7 percent.

Meanwhile, Britain is now forecast to grow 1.4 percent this year, 0.2 points less than the April estimate, and 1.5 percent in 2019.

"The rest of the world is moving on without America"

Good luck with that.

The poster tells this forum 'to study import, export trade statistics between countries and their protectionist restrictive trade barriers, many hidden' but fails again and again to see the historical background of globalism which has been leading to the current situation.

The poster fails to see that besides military equipment, on Goods Proudly Made in the USA has not much to offer but that Services are doing traditionally excellent.

The poster fails to mention [but knows] that Corporate America with the Big Tech firms and Coke being most visible are thriving by globalism.

The truth is that is the US became a superpower by the efforts of born Europeans.

What they call Intellectual Property today was taken as war booty after WW2 from the Germans by the US and they either abducted the researchers involved or threatened them with prison time. The expertise of Germans enabled the US to send Americans to the moon. The European brain drain before and after WW 2 and later Asians gave the US the lead on many fields and thrived the Ivy League universities.

On the outposts of Corporate America are often Europeans in charge as they learned how to deal with foreign cultures and thus taking care of the interests of US stakeholders, excuse me stockholders :)

@Netgrump Without the 62 million Trump voters we'd have Hydrogen Hillary in the White House - you should get on your knees and thank the Trump voters for stopping that nightmare : )

The only possible situation I think of to thank someone on my knees would be a female so I'm not going to honour you and your fellow voters :)

Honestly I would not have voted for Clinton either if I was an American.

Seventeen yrs ago I was in the position to join a neighbourhood election in the US but much to the surprise of my Gotham relationship of those days and her friends I refused to apply for a Green Card. Some Gotham women really believe that all foreign men are desperate in search for one :)
