Untill they actually sign an agreement, much of this is not binding and is but a declaration of a resolution as a body. Untill they actually put into writing policies and procedures as to how and when and by whom both general and specific changes will be made and such action will be taken, one cannot expect any real action. And all such action needs monitoring and if not achieved a form of reprimand and a system that have negative impact on those that do not conform or punishment for those that do not take action or on those that give negative results.

With so much differences in needs and expectations, all such gathering will not have much effect without the above.

On thing for sure, Japan will take some action just because they believe in the good and that all attending are honorable.

It is not right to call Trump endorsing protectionism. It is just unfair American companies must compete with China's state supported companies.

Trump has sown that the US cannot be trusted to keep any agreement.

"clearly confirm the basic principles of free trade" that call for trade to be fair and non-discriminatory.

*Leaders of the Group of 20 economies ended their two-day summit on Saturday without a pledge to fight protectionism for the second year running ......*

They came, made merry, mouthed stuff , they're gone.

Did local businesses receive any compensation for closing their shops for the duration of the summit??

Special quick-flushing toilets, granny rap and a self-imposed brothel ban: Japan's Osaka is determined to paint itself in the best possible light for the G20 leaders summit starting on Friday.

The J gov would best answer that. But the quick-flushing toilet guy certainly won big !! World wide publicity for almost " royal " dumps !! And repeatable every 20secs !!

Leaders of the Group of 20 economies on Saturday agreed to promote free and fair trade

Excellent result of the Summit! Chaired excellently by PM Abe. This brilliant pledge to move towards free trade is what is going to make the G20 nations stronger and richer. And to think there were those criticizing this Summit, saying it was just a "golfing and Japanese 5-star cuisine junket"! Wrong!

@Ganba--hotels may be called five stars, but restaurants are assessed three stars max under the Michelin standard. Most of those are in Tokyo, while Osaka is much better known for b-kyu gurume that doesnt get Michelin stars.

Chaired excellently by PM Abe?

think you should watch this https://twitter.com/i/status/1144676375145566208 (sarkasm)

Shows just how much your excellent chairman was thought of by other leaders.

Sorry Ganbare, Abe failed. As the host and chair he could have pushed for a non-protectionism pledge which was the common ground of all the participants except trump. Climate change agreement which impacts global economy and security was also weak. Japan is experiencing this first hand but again, as chair and host he basically deferred to trump. All the "goma suri" to trump on his last visit amounted to nothing which was expected.
