the long game is to stop buying fossil fuels

the long game is to stop buying fossil fuels

Yeah, but you don't ban fossil fuels when there is no viable replacements. Solar and wind energy can only go so far on small scales and cannot fuel large metropolitan areas around the world. Governments should be heavily investing in new renewable energy technologies rather than dump tons of money in to solar and wind which is really probably not the future due to it many issues and inefficiency.

Did I miss something? China has not voted with Russia at the UN. China is not supplying weapons to Russia. China has called for negotiations and a peaceful settlement. China is purchasing oil and gas at discount prices just like India.

China, which has sided with Russia over Ukraine

I agree, but Putin and the Kremlin know they have the global petrochemical establishment by the throat, and they'll continue to weaponize oil and gas, as will his partner Iran, plus Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other oil states.

A diversity in the group photo.

Jaw-dropping levels of historical revisionism from Blinken here. He seems to have forgotten Tony Blair's 1999 speech in Chicago that asserted 'Western' countries were entitled to bomb sovereign nations they didn't like in what became known as the 'Blair Doctrine'.

I do see the hypocrisy there, but what is your point? That Blair was wrong in 1999 or that Blinken is wrong today?

My thinking is that hypocrisy aside, Blinken's position today - countries should not be allowed to expand their borders through the use of force - is the better of the two.

I think that the real reason Scholz is going to Beijing with a business delegation (not mentioned in this article) is to strengthen economic ties with China. Cutting ties with China will be suicide for Germany.

Since delivering the initial warning to Moscow - two months before Russia's invasion was launched in late February - the G7 has largely followed through with their vow to punish Russia, although sanctions have done little to deter the Kremlin amid soaring energy prices.

So, the premise is and was to encircle Russia with military bases and then to ‘punish’ Russia for objecting and not to engage in talks?

Putin has never been against negotiation and the video below proves it along with his many videos stating often that dialogue is the way forward.

Ukraine overall was peaceful and generally happy when Russia attacked.

Generally, but not the Russians making up the majority of the population in Eastern Ukraine who have even been tried to have their language taken away via Ukrainization.

Yes, and the constant attacks by Ukraine against the Donbas region since 2014.

Good that the G7 remain united in their resolve to ensure Ukraine freedom and sovereignty,

Ukraine is not sovereign and free. Since 2014, it has been run by the US/UK. They block/jail the opposition and shut down media that does not follow the Western narrative....

Crazy bunch of clowns who think that they have right to rule the world, in their minds you are either with them or against them.

The video was taken down. I wanted to watch it.

Health is wealth. Life is a precious gift. Standing up to serve the poor, the ill-clad, the hungry, the sick, and the suffering fellow citizens of Planet Earth is indeed a meaningful opportunity during one's brief journey in life.

Hypocrisy fest!

@Alfie

Hypocrisy beyond belief....

Another false equivalency. There is no hypocrisy. The Blair Doctrine was about Western intervention aimed at ending humanitarian crises in conflict-ridden, basket-case countries. I'm an isolationist, so I don't like it either, but it's nowhere near the same thing as what Putin is doing.

Ukraine overall was peaceful and generally happy when Russia attacked. Putin wants to conquer and control Ukraine forever as part of a fantasy based on a long-dead "Great" Russian Empire.

G7 ministers seek to boost unity on Ukraine, China, Iran:

Same agenda repeated, same diplomacy regurgitated, same goals reaffirmed, what else could these top diplomats of G7 do? Anyway same zero outcomes expected.

Are they not tired of such routine boring international stuff..?

So, the US and UK run Ukraine, block and/or jail the opposition, and shut down the media they don't like? You are the same poster who feels COVID vaccines are a global conspiracy, right? Whatever narrative it is you are reading doesn't sound very convincing.

Scholz on a begging trip in China. More important than meeting some American and his minions. He mentioned the phrase, Multipolar world. Oops. America must be getting nervous. G7 is losing relevance in this modern world now. Italy, Canada and UK? Gimme a break. And it's not just China that is siding with Russia. The whole of the Global South is sick and tired of the shenanigans of the Imperialist West and their colonial mentality. Latin America is shifting to the left, and is not going to let USA meddle in their internal affairs again. Brazil, with Lula, will no longer tolerate sanctions against Cuba. Only USA and Ukraine(!!!!) still want sanctions. ALL other countries don't.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made reference to the 374-year-old document at an event with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, saying Russia's actions in Ukraine are a direct attack on the concepts of national sovereignty and territorial integrity that many believe the treaty established.

Jaw-dropping levels of historical revisionism from Blinken here. He seems to have forgotten Tony Blair's 1999 speech in Chicago that asserted 'Western' countries were entitled to bomb sovereign nations they didn't like in what became known as the 'Blair Doctrine'.

https://archive.globalpolicy.org/empire/humanint/1999/0422blair.htm

"So, for me, before September 11th, I was already reaching for a different philosophy in international relations from a traditional one that has held sway since the treaty of Westphalia in 1648; namely that a country's internal affairs are for it and you don't interfere unless it threatens you, or breaches a treaty, or triggers an obligation of alliance."

Good that the G7 remain united in their resolve to ensure Ukraine freedom and sovereignty, facing down China's delusions of empire building and voicing support for those struggling in Iran for greater freedom after the murder of a women for not wearing a hijab by the "morality police".

Lets all hope they find a way to hold Putin personally responsible for the barbaric Russian war crimes. WWII war criminals got the rope. Let us pray Putin gets his justice at the end of a rope also.

saying Russia's actions in Ukraine are a direct attack on the concepts of national sovereignty and territorial integrity that many believe the treaty established.

The past treaty and agreements between Russia and Ukraine were immediately broken after the US led coup to oust the legaly sitting Ukraine presiden at the time.

This is when the attackson the Donbass regions by Ukraine started and lasted 8 years until Putin finally stepped in.

Why do the G7 countries support the most corrupt country in Europe ? Compared to the rest of the world, the G7 have no power. They are vastly outnumbered.

-3 ( +9 / -12 )

Oh really? Unity in G7s was that a joke? Geran chancellor Olaf Scholz will goto meet Emperor XI selling a smaller stake of Hamburg port. When things come to money, all those "Western values" were rubbish and threw aside!

These strong powers are big stumbling blocks for the establishment of a one world government that is why these “glob****” nations are uniting together. These hindrances to global governance has to go away. When Gog of Russia leads a confederation of nations that will invade Israel for a spoil including Iran, Turkey, Sudan and Libya and many other nations, they will meet their doom on the mountains of Israel. This will be the end of these strong powers and radical Islamic nations like Iran. This will eventually pave the way for the formation of ten regional powers and this global govt willl ultimately be led by the final world dictator. It is coming folks and it is not even funny.

Where’s the new Israeli pm? Or is he pulling the strings? Why Target China? Why Iran?

That's why Merkel's push to put her country's - and by extension the Eu's - energy destiny in the hands Russia through Nordstream and shutting all the nuclear power plants about a decade ago was the close to being criminal. The CIA gave the former East German communist stern warnings about this, which she ignored.

Germany needs to launch an official inquiry into Merkel's motives and actions.
