Opposition parties are against the bill due to concerns that it could overly restrict individual rights.

Komeito, the junior coalition partner for the ruling LDP also opposed to the original plan. There remain some loopholes in the revised legislation. Yet, it's making a first and remarkable step.

Actually it's a pretty smart thing considering the limited amount of useable land here in Japan AND the fact that there has been an increase over the past few years of Chinese purchasing land, for the water and mineral rights.

Really wise move.

Ban ALL property ownership by Chinese nationals. Why should Japan just hand their land to Communists on a platter?

@fighto

your point is right, but you need to state it without using the nationalist narrative crap.

The legislation is long overdue. At present, Chinese nationals can own property in Japan but Japanese are not allowed to buy land in China. It’s against reciprocity

OK then, tell me how you would state it "gently" or diplomatically that Chinese nationals are banned from buying property?

They need to be told loud and clear enough is enough.

letting foreign, richer countries, to buy land would end up with lots of rents revenues and taxation flushed out of Japan.

it's very common, in Europe and America to restrict the amount of land that a foreigner can buy.

3.5 % of Japanese land is occupied by USA. They just bumped it up to 5%.

What about land previously purchased that later falls w/in 1 km of a govt "national security" enclave?

In that case, the government would buy it back for market prices (adding a little extra). In realty such a case is unlikely as they would be able to seek several alternative places.

Ban ALL property ownership by Chinese nationals.

And how will your Chinese mates feel about that? Yes, there are dodgy wumao types on sites like this, and they make themselves very obvious - but to tar all Chinese with one brush is a bit over the top.

You'll note when I call for the occupying foreign military to be sent home - it's just the military. Not all Americans, most of whom are decent skins and under represented here, online.

No Japanese land is being given to communists. Apart from ordinary Japanese folk who's politics mean that they tend to vote for our communist party here. I mean, they have to live somewhere. Oh, and I guess JCP HQ...

The Beijing regime, on the other hand, is worth keeping tabs on. But, as you well know, they are not communists but rather authoritarian cultists.

If u do not want to sell, who can buy??,.

Too late, the Chinese already purchased all the lands. If not, they will ask their Chinese Japanese or Taiwanese Japanese to do so for them. What's also hypocritical that the US has no issue of buying any Japanese land for either military purpose or corporate purpose.

Kintetsu deals with BlackStone is a recent example.
