It would be more accurate to say that America's 'Pivot to Asia' fuels Asia's arms race frenzy.

Incorrect. The US pivot to Asia started under Pres Obama, who invited Xi Jing Ping to Washington where he told Obama that China will not militarize the South China Sea. 6 months later China was militarizing the South China Sea by arming their artificial islands. Make no mistake, the arms race in the Pacific was created by China's massive military buildup and aggressive territorial claims.

China’s only ally is the taliban and I have a feeling they likely are not going to show up to help if things go down.

China’s genocide and aggressive behavior toward other countries has left them isolated. They will collapse sooner or later. Hopefully for the good of the world, it’s sooner.

To those Pacifist, with their head and neck buried in the ground.

Are you watching the news?

It's getting worse every month, every year.

Threats to East Asia, South China Sea, to Taiwain to Japan is increasing every single day.

Japan is surrounded by 3 powers with big armies, ballistic missiles, Nuclear weapons.

If Japan is not prepared, consequences will be serious. Life and death. Land and water will be lose.

Australia announced the unprecedented purchase of state-of-the-art U.S. nuclear-powered submarines

No it announced a technology transfer of US nuclear powered reactors for a new fleet of nuclear submarines. There is no decision on US or UK designs or if it will be a new design for Australia.

There will be collaberation by all three nations on the best suitable ships to be built in Adelaide Australia. The UK subs are currently faster than their US counterparts.

Video of NK showed the tunnel the train came out of and our satellites know exactly from GPS exactly where it is. I think NK should find another tunnel.

If fear of China is the driving force behind regional defense spending, then the United States has appeared happy to speed the process along, actively helping regional allies to beef up.

That paragraph is written without quote marks. Is this article reporting news or editorializing?

@Hiro S Nobumasa, they are powered by nuclear and do not have nuclear weapons. There is a very big difference.

Spurious, illegitimate claims at that.

Bad example ! There's a chance China will da-kine 'imitate' or 'copy' such a move by providing advance stealth nuclear missile technology to NK, Iran and Syria .

It seems OZ just opened a nuclear Pandora's Box!

What makes you think China hasn't already been doing that?

And don't use bold letters. Mod doesn't like it.

China will take Taiwan and no one will stop them.

You and China wish.

And the US and world is dependent on rare earth elements now and guess who controls 90%? Duh, China.

That was 11 years ago.

Can't beat a bunch of guys in sandals and pickup trucks, but you're going to take on China? Good luck with that.

Uniformed armies are easy to take out. The Chinese PLA are not guerillas mixed into civilians.

An armaments race knows no bounds. If one side wants to be superior in the possession of weaponry to the other side and is actually being so, the other side becomes desperate to supersede the rival country, and the race goes on and on indefinitely. An arms buildup is a lose-lose game unworthy to pursue.

Japan needs to develop its own nuclear weapons, strictly for defensive purposes of course, and along with South Korea, lease land to America for the purpose of. Forward missile bases capable of wiping out major Chinese cities within minutes of launch.

You and China wish.

False, I said I did not want that. Read it again.

China holds a monopoly on rare earth elements today.

The last US enterprise trying to get into the market collapsed.

Japan needs to develop its own nuclear weapons...

Japan has enough plutonium to build 6,000 devices. Japan also has rocketry to deliver. I submit that anyone thinking that Japan does not have the parts lying in close proximity and a few screwdriver turns away from completion is naive.

OZ not only lost its good reputation and a friend but also became a target for PLA missiles

Not really. France remembers Australia lost tens of thousands of its sons defending French freedom in two world wars and this will not cancel that out. It is not like other contracts for equipment including ships or fighter planes have never been cancelled in the history of supply of military equipment.

As for China, it would always have attacked Australia the second Australia helps it's ally America. At least now, if they do that they will have another country capable of sailing close enough to retaliate and it will become a target for Australian missiles.

America’s brilliant strategy of moving the da-kine battlefield farther away from the US Homeland perfect!

So perfect the Chinese have adopted the very same strategy. Hence the military outposts well away from the Chinese territory in the very bottom of the South China sea.

In what way is providing nuclear weapons tech the same as nuclear reactor's. One is a power source and the other is WMD. It seems some people cant tell the difference.

China's ' reverse engineering ' ingenuity doesn't mean it will match yar shiny marbles with equal marbles.

The way they think is way different and they may project OZ's acquiring of nuclear subs as a go signal for them to go 8 steps further up the ladder to expand their military alliance with Iran, Syria and NK.

It's like one nuclear sub for OZ and one nuclear missile for NK or Iran. And who can stop the Pandora's Box that Canberra gleefully opened?

Who said that Beijington will play by the rules?

Maybe only people with da-kine simple way of seeing things in the real world does?

China will take Taiwan and no one will stop them.

They might get a good scolding from some politicians in the west though. I don't want that, but the days of standing up to people are gone because too many companies (not countries) have given up manufacturing to China to make mo money. It's all about mo money.

And the US and world is dependent on rare earth elements now and guess who controls 90%? Duh, China.

Dear Yuri, a nuclear powered sub is semi- toothless without them nuclear ballistic missiles.

Armies just don't buy them da-kine battle tanks just to equipped it with pistols!

Anyways OZ buying them da-kine nuclear subs is good for Japan.

More PLA missiles will no longer be aimed at Tokyo for sure!

Brazil developing its own nuclear submarine was met with silence but when Australia plans to build some its opening Pandora's box? Since people are making false statements, perhaps Australia should just get nuclear weapons and with one of the worlds largest supply's of uranium it could build a huge arsenal to match Russia and America. It is a good thing that Australia does not want nukes and will not get nukes.

For China to copy the move it would be to supply nuclear reactors for submarines to NK, or Syria or Iran. Nuclear weapons are not involved in any part of the AUKUS technology sharing.

People talking about nukes do not know what they are saying, they have never been on the table.

Australia could design and build its own nukes within a year without anyone's assistance in any event.

No can do unless Japanese are willing to eat grass for a generation like Iranians and North Koreans.

along with South Korea, lease land to America for the purpose of. Forward missile bases

Korea is already a ballistic missile superpower and there is no justification for basing US ballistic missiles in Korea.

The sole remaining US intermediate range missile base candidate is Iwakuni.
