Seems a bit fear-mongering. More so than during the Korean War? Cold War tensions and Russian posturing?
Nice reframing of the previous statement of 'by 2030'.
Most realize with rising costs and depreciation of the currency that 1500 in 2030 will probably buy less than 1055 today. The LDP is truly condescending to the public with such proposals.
Deja vu and all the same meaningless phrases of Abenomics, New Capitalism etc.
One thing is the LDP is not addressing job loss due to automation.
Anecdotally, I know both Japanese and foreign translators who have lost up to 80% of their business by the adoption of different iterations of LLM like ChatGPT.
Some are drawing on savings but it is not going to last until those insufficient Japanese pensions kick in.

Same old LDP drivel.
Wheel in the next old man...
Nothing changes here.

Where's the pledge?

Raise the minimum wage rate to 1250 yen now and that will restore some of the faith.
Peter Neil
the strength of japan during decades of growth was an efficient and skilled workforce in manufacturing.
offshoring to china and other asian nations helped those countries, but hurt japan. nothing replaced those high-wage jobs.
promises mean nothing without a plan. if you have no goal, you will always reach that goal - nothing.
japan needs to think beyond more coffee shops. artificial intelligence is an overhyped path to emphasize. japan needs to find things to build, even if it means repatriating manufacturing from overseas.
costs for goods has increased from overseas manufacturing so much that repatriating, but staying competitive, can increase wages some and expand supporting businesses.
the marketplace, whether commercial or consumer, has been lulled into complacency - spending more to buy two shoddy products from china every year, versus one quality product that lasts years.
private equity changed the game in the north american market. retail markup used to be about 7 times cost and companies flourished. p.e. changed that to 12 to 20 times cost while simultaneously sourcing the cheapest crap they could find and keeping wages stagnant.
consolidation of industries to just 2 or 3 competitors drove independent businesses out of business. a chain store doesn’t need to make enough profit to support an owner.

The one party state leader has spoken,he mentions to restore trust in politics instead he should say to restore it in the LDP.

There is no security threat

Japan last ruled by someone other than LDP 2012. Because it is multi party democracy.
China last ruled by someone other than CCP 1949. Because it is a one party state.
Thank god for democracy! Dont like who is in charge, you have the freedom to vote for a change. Dont like who the new leader of the LDP is, well he had the guts to call an immediate election so the people can decide. More courage than the entire CCP who are so scared they dont even allow multi party elections.

vows & pledges blah blah blah.

Yes, better to not say anything at all and leave people guessing.
But with en election coming up he has to state his intentions. Perhaps your more used to simply being told what to do and having no say in it? Freedom has its perks, like a say in who governs you as one example.

Ishiba should promise to try clone a unicorn.
Everyone loves unicorns. Guaranteed to be popular with the "cute" loving Japanese.
And probably more realistic than the rest of his pledges.

Well I feel placated

He set a goal of achieving a 1,500 yen average minimum hourly wage across the nation by the end of the 2020s
My advice to young people -- get out of Japan while you still can. Why would anyone want to have children in this kind of society?

As the population becomes older, whatever impetus that I noticed ‘back in the day’ has seemed to have vanished for many Japanese.
Just going through the motions as everything around rots.
There doesn’t seem to be the interest and desire ‘to know’ as there once was.
Just going through the motions…

His only priority is the wretched election that nobody wants. I just feel despair about Japan's future with this kind of leadership.

He hasn't been able to "reassure public" at all, no intention to "restore to trust in politics".
Their arms race policy already more increase burden or victimize public who already facing poverty. Besides, he intend to wait for public forgetting about Unification Church issues or slush fundraising issues in obscure.
One week passed from he became new party leader, his behaviors as politician have already betrayed to even insistences of himself just a few days before or weeks before, not only public expectation. criticism and disappointments to his regime are rapidly expanding.
But, not few voters seem to choose LDP at next election despite innumerable corruption or unjust.

Another old man promising nothing that is of value to the average worker .But it keeps his buddies happy and that is all that matters

And he's gonna do that while ASO, Suga and Kishida's mugs are still all over the place in parliament, without any punishments...........
What actual fantasy world do these fools reside in?
