Yohei Kono legitimized the Comfort Women issue in 1993 by apologizing before any real investigation into the facts were carried out. The result is that Japan has suffered from the assault by Chong Dae Hyup and many people have used his "apology" as evidence that all the charges were accurate. Today even some South Korean scholars are stating that they weren't. And the original stories published by the Asahi Shimbun have been found to be fake. But Yohei Kono made correcting the myth an uphill challenge. He really should keep his mouth shut and let his son, a Georgetown grad, do his job.

Just because he is a Georgetown graduate means nothing about his ability to do his job, as evidenced by all sorts of other politicians and "world-leaders".

Wow. Lies, lies, lies. A paid lickspittle of Japan's far-right, taking money to lie about sex slaves on the internet. One wonders what the women in your family feel about this little "paid hobby" of yours.

Alfie, Ossan,
Perhaps you 2 ought to go back a few days & take a read about some Japanese women who were used as sex slaves, just sayin!
There is overwhelming evidence of sex slavery by the IJA & govt of the time
Its shame many still cant see the obvious, oh well...

There is nothing wrong with the Georgetown grad qualifier. academic pedigree does matter, to various extents. In political science and diplomacy, Georgetown has strength, more so than say Stanford, where the first DP prime minister cut his teeth. In China, the person who heads the National People's Congress had "studied" at the department of economics of the Kim Il Song University in NK. Does that not matter?

The whole world knows what happened yet some people take money to lie about it, to deflect and deceive. This guy's one of them.

Real investigation into the facts were carried out and no evidence of wrong doing. That's why it was just a Kono statement not a official cabinet statement. South Korea wanted an apology and Kono gave it because South Korea promised they wouldn't bother Japan again. But it turned out to be another lie.

Japan appoints a politician who earned a degree in either England or USA as foreign minister. In Japanese political society, uneducated politicians are not valued well.. It is not like current S Korea where Moon does not know how to answer to 'how are you?'

Like it or not, OssanAmerica is correct about the background to the 1993 Kono statement. Most of the research on the comfort women issue came later. Further, one need not be "far right" to question many of the common claims about the comfort women. Chunhee Sara Soh (Korean-American) and Park Yu-ha (Korean) have done this. Neither has any connection to the "far right." Neither denies the existence of the system. Both document that common claims about it are wildly exaggerated.
