Ok. So what would they be protecting them from?? lol
Seriously, the writing is on the wall that the Democratic nations of the world will not allow China to disrupt the "peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait". Like by invading Taiwan. China needs to get over it.

Good work. China's 'wolf warrior' diplomacy has only had the effect of helping the world wake up to their true intentions.
Fighto!
Communist China has no friends left, except for rogue totalitarian dictator states like Russia, North Korea and possibly Myanmar. The free world is forming unbreakable alliances like QUAD, in order to stop the threat of China dead in their tracks. And the free world will win.
Boycott genocidal China! Bring the commies to their knees!

Great. Have a meeting then suck your teeth. Then sit back and realize you can’t or won’t do anything. Too much business depends on China no matter their saber rattling or shocking human rights record.

Haha, yeah, if China attacks I’ll call on Australia and Japan for help. That will put the fear of god in them.

Australia have a pitiful navy.

This is a confidence building move, all the small guys need to know the big guys have their back when dealing with the Chinese.

Meiyouwenti,
It's not that you know nothing, it's that you know one thing- and your knowledge in even that is ridiculously limited, to the point that one can only imagine that you're being facetious or deliberately inflammatory.

I fear that the only thing that can stop China from taking over the world is again America.

I can't comment n the Australian army's behaviour in Singapore in WW 2, but Australia today has a modern well equipped army with recent experience in war in the Middle -East., and peacekeeping experience in Asian countries. Moreover it has new submarines on order, so China might have difficulty in invading Taiwan or japan if it's ships are torpedoed.

@Meiyouwenti
Are you prepared to back up those ridiculous claims?
We may have been a bit rough around the edges but we have had some of the finest soldiers in the world over the years, do some research.
Glad to have the Japanese on our side now

That is a stretch. Nobody is limiting Chinese trade or domestic prosperity and growth, or their standards of living.
The Quad is to protect the region from Chinese military aspirations to expand its territories at the expense of all those around them. The world would much prefer a friendly China over the current expansionist colonial version run by Xi.
Japan and Australia having firmer defense ties is a welcome progression of their expanding friendship.
I look forward to being able to buy authentic Japanese ekiben at train stations around my country some time in the future. Wouldn't that be awesome.

China has a lot of clout in Africa, Central & South America, Iran, and other places. When WW3 breaks out, they won't be alone.
Strangerland
Danielsan is correct. It's dangerous to think that China is isolated, that's only within western media. The fact is China has been putting a lot of resources into soft-politics; investing in countries with less money, but lots of resources, and providing support so as to breed goodwill in those countries. The same as the American method really.
Desert Tortoise
Ok. So what would they be protecting them from?? lol
No lol. If an Aussie ship defending Japanese territory is under attack Japanese forces can engage the enemy force to protect the Aussie ship. Some readings of Japans Constitution would prohibit this.
Desert Tortoise
China has no allies that would willingly shed blood and treasure to defend her. That is quite unlike the western allies who will all fight together for mutual protection and have done so many times in the past. Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Solomon Islands and Samoa for example are not going to rush to the defense of China and have little to offer aside from their land. The people there do not like the Chinese, only their rulers do. The Chinese don't have well armed allies like Australia, Canada, and Japan willing to fight with the US and who train constantly to do so. It is not a minor distinction. The Chinese themselves feel isolated.
Desert Tortoise
Equally important is that it tells the Chinese that Taiwan and Japan will not fight China alone. China will have to defeat well armed and very well trained allied forces to prevail against Taiwan or Japan. Those allies are an important counterweight to China's increasingly large military.
Desert Tortoise
It is only a waste of time if you don't mind the Chinese destroying your home, taking your freedoms (like posting on sites like this) away and you have passing Mandarin. Of course none of that will matter if they kill you. Don't be naive thinking China would not attack if Japan appears weak and vulnerable. Look how China pushes around the Philippines.
