China follows an "all fronts war" policy. That means financial, economic, trade issues are used in conjunction with strategic and military agendas to further advance China's goals.

Xi Jinping is alienating almost every nation that once held a favorable opinion of China. One Belt One Road is being revealed as a debt trap that is causing many nations to reconsider their participation. It caused a change of government in Maldives with a new PM and Parliament opposed to Chinese influence and inclined to stiff arm China on its loans. Papua New Guinea has come to realize the Huewei run data center they borrowed some $50 million from China to build is really just an intelligence gathering operation for the PLA with no commercial value to PNG based businesses. They likewise are refusing to repay their loan. I read yesterday in another news source that a high ranking Chinese general remarked that China did not expect the deep and widespread hatred of China that has developed in the US, the speed with which that hatred developed, how ruthlessly (his term) the US would react nor did they expect that no nation has expressed any support for China.

Not worried about China military invading any place, history showed us again and again who is invading every corner of the world, and it is NOT China.

China is invading the world Financially and that is their plan.

China follows an "all fronts war" policy. That means financial, economic, trade issues are used in conjunction with strategic and military agendas to further advance China's goals.

China uses it's financial power to influence and control poorer countries, providing "assistance" in return for massive debt, which when unpaid allows China to make further demands. Some of these demands directly support China's military and strategic goals. Economically weak nations from Asia to Europe are targeted.

Unless you put your own soldiers/Marines on the enemies territory you don't win the war. That aspect of warfare has not changed.

Very true, in fact, one of the first things I learned in Infantry Leaders Course. “No major conflict has ever been won without boots on the ground.”

Please read more carefully. The exact wording of the caption is: "A French army soldier take part in a joint military drill between Japan Self-Defense Force, French army and U.S. Marines"

I was referring to the smaller photo at the bottom of the article, of what appears to be a command post or something.

but it’s better to hack into and disengage or divert or completely deactivate incoming drones and missiles so that you don’t even need to lift off by a manned helicopter, but instead send unmanned drones yourself.

Not true. Unless you put your own soldiers/Marines on the enemies territory you don't win the war. That aspect of warfare has not changed. A nation can use air and naval power to stop an attack and you can do grave damage to an enemies infrastructure with air power perhaps forcing them to cease their attacks, but you won't conquer them unless you take and hold their territory and defeat their army. However in the case of the Chinese attacking Taiwan or Japan, doing enough damage to China's navy, air force and infrastructure with allied air and naval power combined with cyber attacks could be enough to force China to withdraw and agree to a cease fire. That btw would probably be the end of the CCP.

Those helicopters can carry the troops and missile batteries to those small islands to be used to engage Chinese warships in coordination with allied naval forces. Then those helicopters can remove those forces after the battle and be ready to set up again on another island. They can also be used to garrison an island before the Chinese can take it with their own amphibious forces or to come to the aid of Taiwanese forces trying to fend off a Chinese attack.

You can't kill enemy soldiers who are invading your town with a computer and some virus. An infantryman with a rifle and ammo is not stopped by cyber warfare. You have to kill them. Sorry but war is not a nice thing. You try to avoid them but if another nation is intent on taking what is rightly yours by force, you have no choice but to kill their fighters.

It would be better to additionally hold a training IT hackathon

Who says western military organizations don't? Those exercises however are not in the public realm. If you remember during the 2007 raid on Syria's North Korean designed nuclear reactor Israel used malware to essentially disable Syria's air defense network during the attack. I have to think that western military organizations very closely guard how much they know about their adversaries many networks and how far they are penetrated. No one wants to give away just how much they know about the other side. Best to have some unpleasant surprises for your enemy that you save for a situation that truly demands those measures. I do vividly remember an EW exercise conducted by the Navy off the coast of San Diego in the mid 1980s that caused a power failure over pretty much all of San Diego and the southern part of Orange County. That was 35 years ago.

Third picture in, if there were any enemy in that building the guy in the middle would have his head blown off!

This is why you have exercises. Make your mistakes during training so you know better when you are in actual combat.

I guess no one at the JT office knows a current or former Marine, and why you should never call a Marine a “soldier.”

China is not rising peacefully as they promised.

China has become the most aggressive country in Asia. Fact

China has more territorial problems with dozens of countries! On all sides of China.

China is the one poking, pushing, bullying it's neighbors. The small response from neighbors is small cakes compare to what China is doing.

training to defend Japanese territory is part of the remit of a “defence force” as is training with allies to displace invaders on islands you can’t maintain forces on.

French politicians may be a nightmare but their professional military are not to be sneezed at.

history showed us again and again who is invading every corner of the world, and it is NOT China.

That is a false statement.

China invaded Tibet 1950.

Invasion Of South and North Korea in 1950

China tried to invade Vietnam 1979 and failed.

China has invaded parts of India 1962.

Invasion Of The Soviet Union In 1969.

China has plans to invade Taiwan.

China is no innocent benevolent entity.

Forget the EU. With Russian troops on the border with Ukraine, the EU has other things on its mind.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

That’s very old style and not sufficient by far. The conventional military technology is available and sold to all sides. It’s difficult therefore to decisively outnumber the potential enemy and gain the big advantage. It would be better to additionally hold a training IT hackathon or similar, because the modern conflicts are more to be expected in all those new technologies, of course not ignoring the interfaces to the older hardware. It’s more a fight per keyboards not so much with battalions shooting at each other. As an example, being capable of flying those helicopters is nice, but it’s better to hack into and disengage or divert or completely deactivate incoming drones and missiles so that you don’t even need to lift off by a manned helicopter, but instead send unmanned drones yourself. Aging society means exactly that too. An 80-years old can still defend the country by keyboard, but surely not by flying a chopper or jet himself...lol

It is imperative for the world to let the Chinese dictatorship know that acts of miltary aggession, such as taking Taiwan, may come at a very high cost.

Right. Japan's postwar constitution bans armed forces altogether. Technically Japan has no military, no right of self-defense. Accordingly, for example, martial courts shall not exist, and as a public servant SDF officials could be charged of murder or manslaughters if they kill enemies in an armed conflict.

The SDF and its operations remain unconstitutional, save that the institution has been recognized through wild interpretations of the constitution and the international security agreement with the US. The status is unreasonable and unpractical. I opt for constitutional amendments.

That is a misconception that is (most often) perpetuated by the communist party.

The laws regarding the status and legality of the SDF are stated within the Jietai-Hou (Self Defense Forces charter).

Senior Col. Dai Xu, an ultrahawkish professor at China’s National Defense University. Dai gave a speech last year admitting that he found four “unexpected” things that the Chinese people could not predict about the United States. They are (a) the level of hatred in the United States toward China, (b) the U.S. government acts ruthlessly leaving no room for negotiations, (c) no country has come forward to show sympathy and support for China and (d) a united front has been formed in the United States.

It seems to me the drills are just a show to China. US, France, Japan these are democratic countries. China and Russia are doing same thing against democracy.

Since the end of World War II, Japan’s constitution has limited the use of force to self defense.

@gokai_wo_maneku

"military"?? But Japan doesn't have a military. It is written in our US-written constitution that we can't have one. Isn't this unconstitutional?

France invading China? Wrong century

There would be no invasion of China. It would be an air and naval war primarily. Land forces would be for defending Japanese or Taiwanese territory, not for invading China. You ignore that France has possessions in the Pacific (Tahiti/French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Clipperton Is., Wallis and Futna) and the Indian Ocean (Reunion, the many small islands of Mayote and Grand Terre). The list of French possessions in the Indian and Pacific Oceans is just too long to list here.

Recent survey conducted by Foreign Ministry of Japan asking opinions about their important partners. The following is In comparison with China.

Total 18% to Japan, 27% to China

France 14% to Japan, 20% to China

Britain 28% to Japan, 27% to China

Germany 21% to Japan, 38% to China

European countries joining the exercise must be taken as a result of their consideration to U.S. rather than to Japan.
