I don't know if I agree that the airstrikes on Syria influenced NK, but to all the people criticizing the US, I will point out the one thing that has been done differently handling North Korea this time around: The US stood up to him. All of you can honestly say that you think that had nothing to do with Kim finally agreeing to come to the table? I say that you're wrong.

US and Japanese pressure and sanctions is what brought NK crawling to the negotiation table in the first place. This is one of the great diplomatic feats in modern times and a decisive victory for the allies

Hate to break it to you, Shinzo, but Japan couldn't influence something as minor as a livestock auction... As for "diplomatic feats" - well, just keep dreaming and good luck with your creative writing class.

Victory? Oh what signed agreement are you talking about? You sure are easily pleased if the possible intention to do something is all you need to be satisfied.

Onodera needs to shut up. The only message the strikes on Syria sent is that you are at the mercy of others if you don't have nukes, Assad is merely a Russian Puppet now. Libya, giving up nukes worked out well for Gaddafi eh? You think Iran won't start up their nuclear program if Trump welches on the unilateral treaty? (Perhaps the pro Israel GOP financiers actually want that). Would you as Kim trust Trump if he bails on the Iran deal?

"There has been full support for that regrettable but necessary attack on his research and engineering part of his weapons program -- weapons of mass destruction. He would be ill-advised to ignore the international community's statement, and we stand ready to address anything in the future."

Boy, this whole article is just one big piece of fake news.

Did I miss something or has anyone read what the US is giving up/offering in return for NK's partial abandonment of its nuke program?

Well said, as usual agree 100 percent with dcog! Japan and USA,through cutting off trade, have brought sick Kim regime to their knees. The victory has been achieved. The upcoming Summits with first Trump, and then PM Abe, will dismantle Kim Dynasty nuclear program, AND finalize return of Japanese Abductees. ANything less, and Japan will refuse to negotiate.

The U.S.-led air strikes against the Syrian regime also sent a message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ahead of talks with President Donald Trump, Japan's defense minister said Friday.

And then he woke up

Zichi: Good news. Now let's hope certain nations don't try to derail it by insisting bilateral issues take center stage.

advice to Kim don't believe these snakes look at history

So... which history would that be? North Korea's history of mass starvation, their history of torture, their history of murder, their history of kidnapping...
