Basically correct. Japan maintains good relations with Israel and with the Arab countries. Geographically it is outside their "sphere of concern". This is like asking China or South Korea where they stand on this issue. They don't care either. Stupid journalist trying to "create" a story.

And where will it be located? Nobody seems to know that yet. The idea in a two-state solution was that West Jerusalem is Israels capital, East Jerusalem was the Palestinian capital. Or is it the reverse? Anyway, that is how it was going to be divided, one way or the other.

So lets just see where this new embassy is placed. If its on the Israeli side of town, I can't really see how its a big impediment to any two-state solution down the track. After all, the embassy would be moved anyway under such a solution.

In saying that, I still think the U.S was wrong to do it. Just unnecessary at this point in time. He has enough problems and wants to create more? Dumb.

I don't understand the protests over President Trump's decision.

Back in April, Russia recognized West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel (http://thehill.com/policy/international/327673-russia-recognizes-jerusalem-as-israeli-capital). There were no protests.

Today, the Czech Republic recognized West Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and even President Duterte of the Philippines is considering moving his country;s embassy to Israel's capital (http://www.ejpress.org/article/Czech-Republic-says-it-recognizes-West-Jerusalem-as-Israel-s-capital-considers-to-move-embassy-to-Jerusalem/23745). There haven't been any noticeable protests directed toward either country.

Why are so much protest and anger directed toward the US? As mentioned earlier, dividing the city into East\West capitals has long been proposed as the two-state solution for the Israelis and Palestinians.

Actually it does concern Japan - as it should concern most countries - and in a not minor way. Has the world not seen enough tension ( = deaths) in the mid-east over the last decades.

Japan says it wants to establish itself as a world commentator and doer. This is obvious by Abe's international jaunts, speeches in EU. UN etc and not the least as a member of the Group of 7. In addition it has considerable business interests in the region which rely on stability. Extra fuel to the terrorist fire is not what will aid Japan, or anyone for that matter. Britain's May as conservative as she is, at least has the backbone to state a direct opinion. 

All this reminds me of playing the when useful card - "only country to suffer nuclear weapon attacks" - but we won't be a signatory to a ban on nuclear weapons.

In this case Japan (Abe) as Trump's closest buddy may privately disagree with the act, but doesn't want to upset the exalted one by appearing divisive.

Or Japan (Abe) doesn't disagree and believe the act will further peace.

Or Japan (Abe) doesn't disagree and believe the act will not further peace enabling Inc to thrive.

This is what makes Japan a great country.

Look, Muslims have Mecca, Medina and a bunch of other cities. Why do they need Jerusalem too? Jews have Jerusalem, and that's it.

From the point of view of an outsider to each of these religions, the desire of Muslims to claim Jerusalem as well comes of as a bit... well...greedy.

Japan believes it should become a permanent Security Council member. Then it should show interests in things that concern the Security Council.

They do. Unlike the West, which created this mess in the first place, Japan has consistently taken a different approach in middle east politics, keeping the neutral position from both Israel and Arabs. And that's good for the region and the world.

Why should Japan say anything? This has absolutely nothing to do with Japan.
