Call it what it is... money for your vote...
An article a few years back on JT regarding the IWC had some of these land locked countries stating they will vote anyway Japan says.

I think China has stolen the march Vs Japan over there.

China is raping Africa. If Japan can be a counterweight to this then I’m all for it.

Deals with Japan don't have an expansionist ulterior geopolitical motive as China does. And developing countries have become aware of this aspect of dealing with China.

But OssanAmerica, if Japan wants to counter China in Africa it means money, and it is something Japan does not have now to throw away. Notice the article said this TICAD framework started in 1993, that was just after the bubble and Japan was still flush with cash. Fast forward 25 years, and Japan cannot afford to bankroll Africa. China sees this and is stepping in. If African countries cannot see what is happening, then they must wake up and be more careful about who they partner with.

That's exactly what I said. Japan, or any other country does not need to match China renminbi for renminbi.
Ganbare Japan!
China is trying to buy African governments, and UN votes. Japan is simply trying to build friendships with African nations, and help develop them. There is a big difference.

very good for Japan to host this meeting
Akie
Japan and China can have some joint projects in Africa. Whatever Japan is trying to do, Japan can't escape from China's gravity. Logistically speaking, China is the bridge between Japan and Europe, and between Japan and Africa. It is super stupid for Abe to bad mouth China's one belt one road initiative. Now, he regrets so much.

Sorry but China already ahead for this one.
Twice as many African presidents made it to China’s Africa summit than to the UN general assembly
https://qz.com/africa/1414004/more-african-presidents-went-to-chinas-africa-forum-than-un-general-assembly/
UN shows fewer African presidents attended the general assembly in New York than were at the third summit of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation that took place in Beijing two weeks earlier in September.

This is a very pointless political gesturing! Japan has a boss behind her and those African nations know who they were dealing with actually! The African countries might not like China or they suspected China's motives but one thing is sure! They wont do business with US and her 'gloves', that just was a repat of those decades of miserable and despair during the 20th century!

20 years too late. China moved into Africa a long time ago, and has already established relationships at both government and factory levels. Even charity megamouthpiece Bob Geldof warned Japan about this at a financial conference more than 12 years ago.

another nice bunfight for the privileged.......

Ganbare......
Japan is simply trying to play catch up.

Japan had the chance 30 years ago but the Chinese looked to the future not the past like Japan's government.
You do realise that 30 years ago Japan's economy was 30 times bigger than China's,don't you?
Talk about lost opportunities.
Do the hustle
Too little too late. Japan has nothing that can’t be bought cheaper in China, India or any other Asian country. Japan does have money though.

China is cheaper, i hear but they don’t treat the customer as king, with respect. I’ve heard many nightmare stories about the Chinese way of doing business. They don’t even let locals do the work. China is so desperate to feed their people they’ll even send them abroad to do the menial work, so host nation nationals get nothing out of the deals.

When Xi summons Africa, 55 African states sent their head of state.
When Abe summons Africa, only foreign ministers came.
