Will you go ahead and claim Southern Sakhalin as well, Japan? While you're at it, you might as well claim Manchuria! History is history, learn to deal with it Japan. The world would've been embroiled in conflicts and disputes if everyone claimed their lost territories back just the way Japan is doing.

There is nothing which is called an "integral part of country", in war there are no rules to abide by. And Russia and Japan is literally still at war. Claiming an area in wartime will just backfire you Japan. Maybe Russia will go ahead and claim Hokkaido as a part of the Kuril Island archipelago.

Maybe worth a few election votes for Abe. Nothing in it for Putin.

So Abe is installing an American missile system that is a direct threat to Russia and he expects Putin to listen to him?

I used to believe that the islands should be returned. However, I think that if they were returned to Japan, the Americans would take them for their own military base. Better to develop the islands together with Russia.

"So Abe is installing an American missile system that is a direct threat to Russia"

Abe is installing a defensive missile system that is designed to shoot down missiles heading towards

Japanese cities. Russia has nuclear tipped missiles aimed at Japan as does China and North Korea. You know this goodlucktoyou? Right?

America is selling, installing the missile system to threaten China and Russia. You can google yourself, or I can give links if you can’t be bothered

Goodlucktoyou,

How does Aegis Ashore and/or Thaad - both of which are defensive in nature- threaten China or Russia or North Korea?

Consider the following facts: China has 478 ICBMS and 260 nuclear warheads. Russia has 528 ICBMS and 1800 nuclear warheads. North Korea has 1,000 ballistic missiles and 20-30 nuclear warheads. Japan has 0 ICBMS and 0 nuclear warheads.

Who is threatening whom????????????????????

Japan has territory issues with China, Korea, and Russia... Hmmmmm, I wonder what the common denominator is....

Japan has 0 ICBMS and 0 nuclear warheads

Gooducktoyou:

From your sources:

Nuclear warheads

Today, Japan's nuclear energy infrastructure makes it capable of constructing nuclear weapons at will. The de-militarization of Japanand the protection of the United States' nuclear umbrella have led to a strong policy of non-weaponization of nuclear technology, but in the face of nuclear weapons testing by North Korea, some politicians and former military officials in Japan are calling for a reversal of this policy.[1][2]

……. Minister of Defense Shigeru Ishiba explicitly backed the idea of Japan maintaining the capability of nuclear latency:

"I don't think Japan needs to possess nuclear weapons, but it's important to maintain our commercial reactors because it would allow us to produce a nuclear warhead in a short amount of time ... It's a tacit nuclear deterrent"[40]

Hence Japan does not have nuclear warheads but has the means to make them.

Right?

ICBMS

“If converted to ballistic missile applications, the M-V would seem likely to give Japan an ICBM roughly equivalent to the MX Peacekeeper, and the J-1 would probably give Japan an ICBM surpassing the performance of a Minuteman III”.

If converted…..So now Japan does not have ICBMs Right?

So…

Japan 0 nuclear warheads 0 ICBMS. But the means to make them. Right?

From your sources Right?

Its a defensive system.

ICBMS

“If converted to ballistic missile applications, the M-V would seem likely to give Japan an ICBM roughly equivalent to the MX Peacekeeper, and the J-1 would probably give Japan an ICBM surpassing the performance of a Minuteman III”.

Likely and probably. These weapons require testing and maintenance. Japan is doing neither. Japan would be wiped out long before they could lift a finger to create an ICBM in the face of serious adversary, like Russia, China, even N.K at this point.
