Sanctions, bans, trade restrictions rarely work. In fact, its quite the opposite. Just look at the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Berlin Wall coming down, Nixon's visit to China. Although Trump's visit to Kim didn't accomplish much, the more trade and interactions you have, the more opportunities there are to ease tensions. The Iran deal accomplished that, but dark forces (Israel) had another agenda.

Several decades ago relations between the two countries briefly warmed up and in the King Size corner at my local Daiei I found an XL men's jacket for an amazingly low price, considering the quality. It bore a label that read "Made in DPR Korea." It was warm and comfortable and the stitching never gave out, but the synthetic leather trim got grubby so I eventually discarded it. I suppose with good materials and quality control, the North Koreans could give China's light industry a run for its money, if they wanted to. Apparently they don't.

Good for Japan. None of this nonsense "talk diplomacy" other leaders have failed miserably at.

Unless missiles stop flying around the vicinity of Japan, and the abductees are all accounted for, the sanctions on NK will remain permanently, and no Japanese investment will be forthcoming.

Japan's ban has no impact at all! Japan is NEVER a key player of the Korean peninsula crisis! The U.S. and China does!
