Ukraine needs food and weapons.

The West won't be deterred by the transparent gaslighting of the Russian rattlesnake, Lavrov, whose nuke-rattling threats are just the hot air of an alcoholic windbag.

Around 15 tons of food items, including canned bread and fish, are expected to be delivered to Ukraine,

Canned bread?

Yes, and some are authentic in terms of taste and form. Check it out and try it if possible :)

Japan has developed canned food products for emergency. They also sell well as the country often faces various natural disasters.

And Japanese were protesting that "ungrateful" Ukraine didn't include Japan on the arms donors list.

And what has your South Korea done for Ukraine? Apart from accepting those deemed of "Korean Ethnicity"? And links please.

9 ( +16 / -7 )

Still a short time ago, if someone would have said that the Ukraine , being one of biggest wheat world producers and located at big sea needs urgently canned bread or fish…

That’s all becoming rather surreal, isn’t it?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Food and medicine are very important and rightful items for military logistics as a stalemate is predicted.

Again with this SK obsession. How about leaving SK out of this thread as its completely irrelevant? What about that Tonga response?

Read the first post.

At least Ukraine is not asking for Japanese weapons from Japan.

This isn't the case with Korea, where Zelenskyy is explicitly asking for a package of Korean weapons that Korea is reluctant to provide.

It's ridiculous shipping カンパン to the food basket of the world.

Really? Ever try to eat flour while hiding in a bunker trying to stay alive during a missile attack?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

why to support regime of Zelenskyy?

Because the Putin regime is murderous and has invaded a sovereign country.

does Kishida knows about Zelenskyy something-at least?

He knows all he needs to know.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Any money sent would be used for weapons regardless what the donating countries want.

And why shouldn't they purchase what they need the most? It is not about what the donating countries want. Once you donate money it becomes theirs to spend as they wish.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Well, Japan has gone through decades like that way, meaning that your bloody tax money withdrawn just like automatic ATM for assisting Asian neighbours too only to receive evil for good in return, like those nations who didn't let their people know it for long. Japan has been assisting as much as, to the extent that some posters here point out the poverty inside Japan should be relieved first.

Your deadly hardworking money are being thrown out to other nations for nothing recognized/appreciated.

Sure Japan wanted to ask Ukraine what the heck that tweet meant.

What do we get in return?

The knowledge you have done a good deed, helped people in need and the satisfaction of sinking a boot into mad Vlad Putin. And that is just awesome.

Canned bread and fish?

Who eats this in Japan or is it solely destined for disasters to show a bit of Japan’s soft power?

Have you ever eaten even once?

Actually I have, a vending machine near my previous residence sold it.

For fun we bought a can.

Honestly it is just fine, tastes like your standard convenience store plactic wrapped breads just in a can and last longer if unopened.

Not great not bad!

But if in a war zone, a refugee camp, disaster situation, I would be quite happy to have some.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I understand as much as 31 countries are providing military assistance to fight Russia. It makes every sense for Japan to support Ukraine by providing food and medicine, humanitarian supplies to the people suffering which are requested by Ukraine.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Of course, nothing says it has to be either/o, it should be all of the above receiving support.

Actually it is either/or because there is only so much aid and money to go around,l and right now Ukraine is getting far far far more than others and wants more!

And please no one give the "they are being aggressively attacked" excuse.

Yemen has be under an aggressive attack by USA allies for years and has received a tiny fraction of the aid Ukraine has,

Example:

Over 150,000 , including tens of thousands of civilians, have been killed in fighting, including the Saudi-led bombing campaign, while many more have died of hunger and disease in the humanitarian crisis caused by the war.

The 150,000 is only since Saudi Arabia started its attack previously another 150,000 died during the civil war .

Total to date over 377,000 but Ukraine is more important (read white European).

People in Japan need to be very aware that if anything happens in Japan and Japanese end up needing refuge in another country, you are Asian not European, so expect the same treatment as Asians previously got and still get do not expect to be treated like Ukrainians.

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Zelensky addressed the South Korean parliament, only 60 out of 300 showed up.

South Korea understands that if the USA gets involved in a war with Russia North Korea will use the chance to invade and Japan will be involved.

Think about that.

No wonder Japan and South Korea won't send weapons.

I hope the Ukrainian win ,but he should make Ukrainian responsible that sided with Russia accountable, and that may be 25 percent of Ukrainain population, you cannot fight a war, when the enemy is within Ukraine

This is the typical Ukrainian Nationalistic propaganda, the same propaganda that lead to OUN UPA ethinc cleansing and Germany in WW2 in committing atrocities.

The same Nationalistic ideas that made Ukraine call the OUN UPA Heroes and make it illegal to say otherwise.

The same type or Nationalism that accepts people that believed the following as Heroes.

OUN UPA platform ( circa 1930s~40s

The Jews in the USSR constitute the most faithful support of the ruling Bolshevik regime, and the vanguard of Muscovite imperialism in Ukraine. The Muscovite-Bolshevik government exploits the anti-Jewish sentiments of the Ukrainian masses to divert their attention from the true cause of their misfortune and to channel them in a time of frustration into pogroms on Jews. The OUN combats the Jews as the prop of the Muscovite-Bolshevik regime and simultaneously it renders the masses conscious of the fact that the principal foe is Moscow.

> ethnic Russians, Poles, and Jews that are hostile to us are to be destroyed in struggle, particularly those opposing the regime, by means of: deporting them to their own lands, eradicating their intelligentsia, which is not to be admitted to any governmental positions, and overall preventing any creation of this intelligentsia (e.g. access to education etc)... Jews are to be isolated, removed from governmental positions in order to prevent sabotage... Those who are deemed necessary may only work under strict supervision and removed from their positions for slightest misconduct... Jewish assimilation is not possible.

What @ Yrral is advocating and has said it in the past is revenge and retaliation against non ukrainians.

How is is this permitted.

But it doesn't surprise me it seems only Poland cared about OUN UPA being Ukrainian heroes.

I don't get why our government is so focus on Ukraine and waste so much money on them. While many here in our own nation still haven't recover from different natural disasters or from the pandemic.

I am not saying we shouldn't help them but i think we did more than enough and went even beyond than what any Asian country has done so far. And Ukraine case really isn't that special. If you look at the list of nations who are in urgent need of aid and suffering from war, ukraine is merely just one of the dozens on the list. Countless countries suffering from famine, wars, disasters or in fact even poverty due to devalue of their currency. Just recently Sri Lanka is in desperate need of help and can't even a afford to buy fuel. What about Myanmar or any other nations in recent years who are in crisis? Our government focusing so heavily on Ukraine while ignoring the rest is kinda sad. Let EU and US handle Ukraine. They have a easier access there anyway.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Absolutely reasonable things to provide. Food, medicine, blankets or clothing. This is the kind of aid nobody can really object to, because it helps the people who actually need it and can only save lives.

I do think Hiro has something of a point though. As the big "hot topic" crisis, a lot of others who also need aid and support can easily be swept under the rug. There are still people displaced within Japan and many suffering from the multitude of wars and bombings around the world. Of course, nothing says it has to be either/o, it should be all of the above receiving support.

Ultimately though, as long as aid continues to go towards people who could actually use it, can't really complain. Nobody can save everyone.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

It's ridiculous shipping カンパン to the food basket of the world.

Send cash to source the items much more cheaply locally

Giving them a blank check and telling them to spend it on food is...ill-advised.

One is simply the logistics of sourcing food yourself during a conflict, it isn't just a matter of calling up your neighbor and asking them to deliver bushels of wheat.

Two is expecting them to even spend it on food, when the people in charge have made it very clear what their preference is for international aid. There is close to a zero chance that any direct cash you gave them ended up being spent on food or medicine.

Well. I actually think it is not worse than what you get at conbini, although depending on where and what you get those , and if you ask them to be warmed or not.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

you haven't seen canned bread before ?

Well that explains alot !

Every small amount of aid helps Ukraine.

Ukraine shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and Japan shouldn't expect to receive too much gratitude for gifts with strings attached from a war torn country .

Personally i think Japan should of remained neutral and focused more on providing domestically.

USA is the king of cash cow humanitarian aid and provider of weapons and rhetoric.

Circus act .

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Japan should have included variety of cup-noodles in there so that none would complain as much as about canned-bread.

Japan is smart this time!

Humanitarian aid only.

Asia, Africa even most of the middle East want nothing to do with this mess.

Every time Europeans have one of their little family feuds they have dragged the rest of the world into it!

Now they no longer can force their former colonies to join and nearly all are saying no thanks work it out on your own.

People criticising India Japan, South Korea, etc ..but remember the last 2 wars started be the Europeans?

Indian soldiers as cannon fodder, as well as Africans, etc. Asia paid a heavy price both times.

I wish Canada had figured that out, unfortunately too many ethnic Ukrainians in key voting districs.

But this will be the last time because the demographics of Canada is fast shifting to Asia, Africa and the middle East,

Incorrect, example Egypt was asked just like Japan and South Korea but hasn't, it provided similar aid as both South Korea and Japan.

But then Ukraine knows whose ...to kiss and is hoping the US will sell Egypt new jet fighters and Egypt will donate their old Migs to Ukraine.

A very long shot because Egypt wouldn't get their new jets for years so Ukraine is dreaming.

The weapons thing was a "save face" excuse as it didn't thank any Asian country.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

I wrote this,

People in Japan need to be very aware that if anything happens in Japan and Japanese end up needing refuge in another country, you are Asian not European, so expect the same treatment as Asians previously got and still get do not expect to be treated like Ukrainians.

To anyone that doubts this, I will point out this example:

After the nuclear disaster, Canada, Australia and other facilitated the evacuation of their citizens in Japan but not their Japanese spouses, they had to find their own way and navigate visas. This was also the case for Syrians.

Today these same countries are not only facilitating the evacuation of their citizens but have also arranged for Ukraine spouses to be evacuated with them.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Seriously?

Zelensky and Ukraine only thanked countries that have weapons, he addressed South Korea and Japan asking not for food but weapons.

Any money sent would be used for weapons regardless what the donating countries want.

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Once you donate money it becomes theirs to spend as they wish.

All the more reason to not donate.

*Let's remember that people's sovereignty, fundamental human rights and pacifism are the most important features of the Constitution of Japan (for now at least).*

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

That's just Kishida and the LDP pandering to the wishes of President Biden.

It's not the first time that the J-government has put the needs of others before their own people.

Also, certain pro-CCP elements in that J-government would like nothing better than the demise of Japan and the Japanese people.

My 2 cents.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

What do we get in return?

The privilege to donate more of your hard earned money (taxes) to Ukraine.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Ukraine doesn’t care about Japan

Japan should not focus on Ukraine

let EU and US UK do it

Japan should take care poor countries in Asia .

Or is this just a smokescreen for more corporate welfare?

According to data from the Japanese government 15% are on the poverty line.

Helping these people should be a priority for the Japanese Government instead of help someone who doesn't know how to say a just "Thank You".

Print more. The yen they are giving are worth less and less every day.

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Is Ukraine actually asking for anything from Japan ?

-16 ( +2 / -18 )

Japan does not have to give weapons to Ukraine because Japan merely pretends to be a force of action anytime there is a conflict worldwide. A show. That's all. Just a show.

This isn't the case with Korea, where Zelenskyy is explicitly asking for a package of Korean weapons that Korea is reluctant to provide. But Korea's days may be numbered because Ukraine is running low on Stinger missiles and need a substitute, the US cannot immediately restart the stinger missile production and the only suitable alternatives are French Mistral and Korean KP-SAM missiles.

Zelenskyy asks South Korea to provide arms to fight Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged South Korea to provide his country with arms to help it fight against Russia's military

“The Republic of Korea has tanks, ships and various equipment that can block Russian missiles and we would be grateful if the Republic of Korea could help us fight back against Russia,” Zelenskyy said, using South Korea’s formal name.

Raytheon chief warns of delays in replenishing Stinger missile stocks

It could take a year or more to make more weapons for countries that donated them to Ukraine, CEO Greg Hayes said.

The CEO of Raytheon Technologies told investors Tuesday that the company won’t be able to ramp up production of Stinger missiles until 2023, due to a lack of parts and materials for the weapons that Western allies have rushed to Ukraine.
