"japan votes" is a bit of an exaggeration. most people don't care. nhk is telling everyone to stay home because of the typhoon. only right wingers and people forced to vote for LDP by there companies will vote. that is hardly all japanese, like the 80% turnout when hatoyama won. last abe snap election for no reason was about 52%.

Abe treats Japan as a kindergarten. He trifles the election like licking a lollipop. There is no basis for him to call elections one after another. He is abusing the power to extreme.

As Goodlucktoyou says most people don't care. Voters are puzzled to find the significance of this election. This is Abe's election.

This isn't an election its a Abe power play. He wins this he can do anything. Goodbye Japan.

Ah, the pre-printed and prepared NHK politicians signs.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

So I will go vote this afternoon, dispite the rain.  But I am still stumped about who to vote for.

I voted early, the choice was easy

with any luck it'll be below 50% turnout, ruining legitimacy regardless of the number of seats won

Japan is its own worst enemy. Need not worry about China or the Norks. The LDP is doing fine on its own destroying Japan. And yet Japan just can't find an alternative. Hilarious.

Communist party is an alternative. All their policies are good, just people don't like their name.

@Goodluck

Absolutely. If ever a party ought to change their name, this is a perfect example. they’ve just got too much damn integrity.

Shii is a superb speaker. If he were a good-looking woman, things would be very different....

Unfortunately that isn't how it works. If Abe gets a majority of a less-than-half vote, he'll still have the seats and will still call the tune. It's happened many times in the past.

Hoping against hope that the polls are wrong.

Inevitable LPD win, as they have done for 70 odd years. Yes the miss named Communist party are actually one of the few if not the only party that has policies rather than fluffy airy fairy mumbling. I dread my grandchildrens future under LDP rule. Give me something other than 70 yo disgruntled men.

@cleo

My thinking is that if it's below 50% regardless of the seat count it would dissuade from a referendum vote

Why not vote for your beloved JCP?

Communist party is an alternative. All their policies are good, just people don't like their name

Yes the miss named Communist party are actually one of the few if not the only party that has policies

Maybe for the next election the JCP should rename itself the Japanese Conservative Party?  Or better yet, the Party of Truth?  From the way you all sound, the average Japanese voters wouldn't know the difference anyway.

But, as the saying goes, be careful what you wish for.  You may get it.....and I hope you do.
