Johnson backs Tokyo Olympics; Japan wants more G7 support

I wonder how much ¥¥¥¥¥"support" he pledged to Johnson to get him to "back" the Olympics?

The idiot also almost died from COVID-19 because of his stupidity and responsible for the deaths of countless Brits. Of course, he supports the Olympics. How is BREXIT doing?

This is simply a vacation to escape the scandal and incompetence in Japan. Suga looks like he is high on natto, coffee, scotch and cigarettes at the same time!

Disappointing.

Boring Johnson.

Boris an inept clown meets Suga a charmless man with less personality and emotion than a garden slug.

Terrible photo. Mr Suga's wife looks like a growth on his shoulder

Means nothing. Political posturing by Britain who are desperate for friends after Brexit

As Prime Minister of one of the countries with a disastrous Covid record, Boris should just be quiet. I for one do not believe a word he comes out with at this point

The prime minister expressed his support for the Tokyo Olympics, and welcomed Japanese efforts to ensure the Games can take place safely," a Downing Street spokesperson said after the meeting.

There are close to zero Japanese efforts to ensure safety, so screw the prime ministers (plural).

Perhaps there was “a plan”?: “You guys make the Constitutional changes back home while I divert attention with a “last ditch” effort overseas to garner support for the big O.

Two awful PMs in matching suits!

Japan wants more G7 support

As a “G7 country” shouldn’t a country be independent and be a leader within the group?

Yet Japan is completely dependent on the others and definitely a follower.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

So Japan wants G7 support but disregards the fact that most people in Japan do not want this.

How does this even make sense, or am I missing something here?

Terrible photo. Mr Suga's wife looks like a growth on his shoulder

Two heads! Zaphod goes to Cornwall. If you look carefully you can even see his third arm!

"It is Japan's expectation that the other members of the G7 countries share the idea of Japan,"

Well, given that 80% of Japanese people don't want the Olympics, let us hope this occurs.

Or has "Japan" been redefined to mean " The IOC/LDP/Dentsu cartel currently holding this country to ransom"?

BJ doesn't have a great history of supporting or securing a safe anything, especially in the last two years. Why would anyone take him seriously at this point?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Oh please. It's like the grown ups are trying to have a serious discussion, and this whiny little kid comes up and starts tugging its Dad's sleeve, so the father gives it some sweets to go away, so they can get on with their serious talk. It's just embarrassing, that Suga would think that the Olympics belong on the agenda at a G7.

That said, BoJo the clown would probably give any random kid who came up and tugged his sleeve some sweets to go away, just in case it's his. And the British Olympic officials are just as self-serving and selfish as any other IOC characters, and probably are jockeying for a place at the IOC table in future, so Suga can rest assured none of them will upset his plan. Never mind that Japan is on the UK's orange list, and the UK is on Japan's red list, a little bit of exceptionalism always comes in handy at awkward moments, for both sides.

Why are they elbow bumping when they are both vaccinated? Looks ridiculous.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The last world leader I would value the support from to stage this games, is Boris Johnson!

152,289 fatalities (death certificates) with a referral to Covid-19.

It is like a chicken requesting advice on how to stay fresh for a longer life from Colonel Sanders.

The Brits (and UK) like us Americans have things overly-reported and under-control. What does Johnson (or Biden) have to lose?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Looks like Japanese prime minister doesn't even know how to elbow handshake and the one who never combs hair is really excited to do it. Suga's wife is mesmerized by the scene.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I think the elbow bump suits them. Looks idiotic.

"It is Japan's expectation that the other members of the G7 countries share the idea of Japan,"

Well, that's why you always end up having to retract/recall things in embarrassment when it's revealed to the world how stupid they are -- stop telling others how to think! Especially when 80% of Japanese nationals are against holding the Games (right now) anyway.

As for Boris -- the wannabe Trump -- supporting the Games, well, Britain is now desperate for investment given they withdrew from the EU without thinking it through.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Boris Johnson. The kiss of death.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Support should always be reciprocal. And we lack reciprocity in many cases. Especially when no one is prepared in advance, no one told them what to do during the meetings, etc. We want but rarely give anything back when requested.

This photo makes me sick. Even by the standard of politicians it looks phoney. They couldn't possibly believe we think this is how they greet each other when out of the public eye...could they?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

They want more support to justify their treatment of the Japanese people. It's obvious they are commiting an atrocity on their own people and residents of Japan.

Suga has that grin of the kid no one wanted on the basketball team in gym class but were forced to choose because his parents called the coach after he cried himself to sleep the last time. All the others seem pretty genuine and confident, but Suga always looks like he's about to walk into a door.

Alliance of farcical leaders. Too bad Trump couldn't join

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Haas any G7 leader spoken out against holding the Olympics?

And this group is going to be tough on China?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The prime minister expressed his support for the Tokyo Olympics, and welcomed Japanese efforts to ensure the Games can take place safely

In a way I am relieved he did . It goes to show that he hasn't gone completely mad.

If you were the post Brexit UK PM and presented with the following option what would you do ?

1) Support Tokyo 2020

2) Don't support Tokyo 2020

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

GOOD.

Bring it on.
