My god! Even his eye brows are dyed. Who is the real Kishida?

No more than a vacation, their nothing can be said over phone

Is his wife's birthday coming up and needs to drop into Bloomingdale's? This guy loves his trips doesn't he. They just met at the G20, Apec. Just talk on the phone already.

Kishida is just trying to go anywhere out of Japan so he won't have to face the public.

17 ( +24 / -7 )

Another waste of Japanese resources. He isn’t a negotiator with skill, he doesn’t have skill and would be better off staying in Japan.

5 ( +14 / -9 )

Hopefully he will be ousted before then. Corrupt crook.

Nothing that a video conference couldn't take care of. Jeez, someone put this guy on a leash...

Are Japanese PMs the most environmentally unfriendly out there?

This is the 21st century with crisp and clear video call communication!

What is the point of traveling everywhere with two large jets?

Why (All) Prime Minister of Japan have to go Davos ? Why ?

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Must have a ton of travel budget left over so they decided to create these unnecessary appointments to plan for a high budget next year.

Topping up his Air Miles.

Democrats don't care about Japan.

Bill Clinton said after fall of Soviet Union Japan is our number one (economy) enemy and screwed with Japan's Microchip Industry. Except the health insurance system there is nothing left for the Washington DC mercenaries to take away.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is planning to visit the United States in January for talks with President Joe Biden, government sources said Thursday, with deepening the bilateral security alliance likely to top the agenda.

More Kishida standing around stiffly, uncomfortably and uncomprehendingly around world leaders on the depreciated public yen (how much more expensive are these profligate, useless trips since the yen has depreciated?)

Finally to stammer out "Japan stands by the rules based order and will oppose any effort to change the status quo".

The LDP can protect the status quo from Nagatacho.

"Please Master, how may we serve the empire even more?"

Never heard of Skype?

Kishida will beg for three things:

The FED and US Treasury help Japan fight against the weak Yen, which the US will reject because it doesn't care

Demand technology transfer from the US, and this depends on how open is the Japanese economy towards foreign ownership and acquisition. This will likely pass because the US can't wait to own Japanese core assets

End the "unfair" favorability towards EVs which will be likely tossed out by the US

@factchecker Kishida is continuing the Abe tactic of using foreign relations to bolster his domestic popularity. It was unclear if it worked for Abe. It's unclear if it will work for Kishida. It is a bit odd that Japan, now noticeably declining in economic power, has now chosen a more security focused path. Certainly Japan's geography makes it quite strategic.

This guy like his predecessors is only talking about militarizing the country and changing the constitution, nothing is done for the economy or the public welfare.

This is the LDP and it's affiliate.

Does this fool do anything other than travel abroad?

What does he do everyday in Japan?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Need someone to validate him

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Waste of money and time..

actually Japanese politicians alway fly with two jumbo jets while USA use one and two fighter jet escorts. Japanese second jumbo is empty. So yes, it is very environmentally unfriendly.

Why does Kishida's itinerary always reads like a "bucket list"?

He already knows its over for him, so he just wants to make the most of the experience to tell his grandchildren.

These foreign trips are for show. Japanese PMs have very little international respect or any meaningful relationships. It was obvious by the fact the so many major countries sent their 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th tier bureaucrats to Abe's funeral.

There are 3 mentally-deranged evil people screwing this planet over at the moment, Putin, Xi, and Kim Jong-un..... If Kishida can sit down with Biden and implore him to make any meaningful inroads into resolving any of the world's biggest issues with regards to this trio, then his trip will be worthwhile.

Personally, I'm not holding out with any hope at all.

The most promising angle could be persuading Biden to stick a rocket up the monolithic U.N. to encourage them to actually move dynamically against the ruthless regimes' leaders - taxpayers the world over are paying for the fat-cats sat in their Ivory-tower in NYC, pretending to be important and effective, whilst salting away vast personal salaries and expense-accounts.

Most naive comment of the day.

Incorrect again @Rodney. The President of the USA travels with 2 VC-25As (heavily modifed 747-200s), and the Japanese PM with two 777-300ERs. Far more environmentally friendly than the former - not ‘Jumbo Jets’
