Kono-sensei is showing strength in standing up to bully SK and fighting back. I expect when PM Abe retires in 2025-6, Kono-sensei will have a good chance of realizing the dream of being PM, along with Koizumi Shintaro.

The start of WW2 considered by many historians is September 1, 1939 when Nazi Germany started invasion of Poland. The entry of the US and Pacific war is only another chapter of WW2 not the start.

I made the quote, and yeah, I think you just didnt get it. WWII was roughly 80 years ago.

But the 40s weren't.

Its important, because its a long time ago and nobody was barely even alive.

80 years?

Japans invasion and annexing of China and much of east asia started in 1931 and ended in their 1945 defeat of WW2, so yes at least 80yrs

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yes, we are 79 years from 1940, as opposed to 80 years.

And we're 70 years since 1949. Notice how none of the numbers 70-79 are 80?

If the reference was not to the colonial period, what do you think he was referring to?

The reference was to "the 40s". I thought he was referring to "the 40s" seeing as he referred to "the 40s".

And if he meant strictly the 1940s, you found 1939 to to be so far off to question it?

1940 + 80 = 2020. It's 2019. We're not yet 80 years from "the 40s".

Yes, we are 79 years from 1940, as opposed to 80 years. Most of us would consider making a deal out of it "picayune". Being one year off does not change or affect his post.

I want Japan to have better relations with both Koreas. That means standing up and not be a punching bag and a personal ATM/apology machine which Japan has been for the last 60 years! With Koreans hating us more after every apology and compensation paid.

Definition for Insanity means: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Already officially and unofiicially the Japanese govt have protested the SK govt on the Moon Hee Sang's comment.

What could the SK govt achieve by denying the existence of the protest in the bilateral meeting?

Who believes Kang Kyung Wha and the govt after we saw their lies on the radar issue and the Bloomberg issue?

Does the govt really care about the former "confort woman" ladies, not the "confort woman" issue?

What is the problem? 80 years ago is 1939. Korea was a Japanese colony from 1910 to 1945.

The quote was not referring to when Japanese was a colony, it was referring to 'the 40s'.

Nice and classy Korea, making **the 40s** an issue 80 years later.

Dude that watch cost about what you make in about year.

Good for him. About time Japanese officials grew a spine and fought back against this South Korean nonsense.

These politicians screw up and then ruin everything for the rest of us. They ruin economies and the rest of us starve. They start wars and the rest of us die.

Interesting discussion...

Hopefully all is looking at this from the larger international perspective.

It is NOT they said we said any more. It is NOT posturing any more.

It is a "stance" on the part of S Korea... from its President to the people and even its Supreme Court.

In essence it is a "dare" to test the international and domestic waters of both S Korea and Japan.

If the people of Japan "do not" stand besides it's leaders.., this will certainly escalate.

Whether you may like it or not... mark this thought.

Economically and otherwise, both Koreas and especially S Korea does not like Japan's close relationship with the US. If they did then the Senkaku Island and other issues would most probably not be there. (Joke: Their President did not "golf" with Trump.)

The problem is in understanding "why".

Why are they so emboldened now?

What is their purpose and objective?

All of their actions recently ONLY brings "instability" to the region besides the relationship with Japan.

Korea and Japan like two twin boys fighting.

What are Koreans saying?

148 of B or C class war criminals were personnels from Korean peninsula.

Dear Korea,

Thank you Korea! You are doing such a wonderful job for Shinzo Abe. Look at the recent poll:

Abe's handling of wartime labor cases draws 64% support in Japan

Public endorses bringing in a third country for settlement, poll shows

Thank you Korea! You are destroying the Asahi Shimbun and Japanese left and fueling Shinzo Abe's popularity.

Support for Abe's Cabinet rises to 56%

Again my heartfelt Thanks.

More behavior by South Korea that undermines their credibility. Or what little is left of it. Read the record, ask the translators. Besides, what is even gained by denying that Japan raised the issue? It's not like South Korea is going to anything about it anyway. And for those who haven't studied real history, Korea was not one of the countries pillaged in WWII. Rather, some 250,000 Koreans in the IJA pillaged other Asian countries.

SK throwing a hissy fit in the same vein of their current employers...China.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

This kind of things only happen between two very old couple.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Curious though. Does anyone think the buck will stop with South Korea? There's so many other countries that were pillaged by japan that didn't 'sign an agreement of understanding' you can only deny responsibility for so long. It's only a matter of time.

-10 ( +8 / -18 )

You can tell things are really bad when two countries can't even agree on what was said during a bilateral meeting. :(

15 ( +15 / -0 )

There will be no difference, asked or not.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

Just ask the translators!

Bloomberg exposed Moon's lie. Kang must have understood what he meant but just dodging his calls.
