With the Emperor abdication this year, it will make it impossible for the hawks to get their way. Akihito gets the last laugh. Long live Article 9

Is this the LDP's new idol group?

Is this the LDP's new idol group?

Unfortunately they think doing this silly little group clenched-fist pump / chant somehow gives more credence to what has just been said.

It's like when the terrible teacher always gives the students candy at the end of class in the hope that the students leave with a positive and totally overlook how little they've just learned in class.

It all looks so camp.

It's that time of year to dance "The time warp again". So their not going to push constitutional change as I guess they have failed to gain the publics understanding once again.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

What’s wrong with that guy?

Why do they wanna change it?

Why do they wanna change peace to war?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

As always, the annual "I'm A Little Teapot" dance-off was the most popular event at the LDP convention.

Any changes will first have to be approved by the occupying authority, the US.

Japan is a modern trbutary nation of the US. It’ll depend if the US approves.

"LDP adopts concise plan on constitutional revision at convention"

Then...

"But he stopped short of mentioning detailed procedures or a timeframe."

And...

"The party's action plan endorsed at the convention merely touched on its push to realize a first-ever amendment to the 1947 Constitution"

Not very concise (short, but not detailed). How about the exact wording, tactics on how to get people on board, and the strategy for implementation?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

I wonder if they realise how silly they look in that photo. Are they doing the Time Warp?

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Japan is rapidly heading towards the self-assertive, self-confident route which will inevitably lead towards confrontation that it has for several generations been unaccustomed to. I hope they understand, and can deal with the consequences of that.

abe is nefarious but he's not stupid... well, at least not stupid enough to get into a war.

he needs article 9 changed so he can justify buying more american military goods and weapons. it's hard to prop up the MIC when you can only buy out of the defense catalogue.

Note, two women in the picture...rare!

I'm sorry, but that's an absolutely ridiculous photo!

"Underpayment of work related benefits, /undermining of trust in government..../territorial disputes over a group of islets" (dating to WW2)... And this is the party that thinks it can rewrite the Constitution ???? Abe's lack of a specific timeframe says it all. Abe knows this will never happen. It's just politics.

"FIGHT-OOOOOOoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Reminds me of the old " Seaman ship" commercial from the 海上自衛隊....

Are they doing the Time Warp?

No theyre singing "Im a little teapot short and stout, here is my handle , here is my spout"

This is both funny and sad at the same time. I showed this photo to my dad who lived in Japan for 30 years since the mid 1950s, and said that this looks like it was taken back then. Same old, same old - just a different cast of characters.

Great photo. It captures beautifully the passion and emotion PM Abe and Cabinet have for their Nation. No need to be ashamed of that. Japan is back.

With South Korea being increasingly aggressive, North Korea sending missiles towards Japan, Russia difficult, and Communist China constantly threatening to Japan, it is vital to rewrite the out of date constitution, to defend against these present threats. Japan needs to build up her military to guarantee protection of Japanese citizens in the most dangerous part of the world.

For someone who constantly rails against totalitarian regimes in China or NK, you sure sound an awful lot like their government mouthpieces.

Mouthpiece? Ringpiece more like.

70 years peaceful time is past already. If you love war, then peace is an enemy, peace is a threat, and peace is unacceptable.

That's a joke, surely.

With South Korea being increasingly aggressive, North Korea sending missiles towards Japan, Russia difficult, and Communist China constantly threatening to Japan...

None of which could be anything to do with that gang of crooks, incompetents and frauds in the photo doing their stupid fist pumps while unashamedly dreaming of rolling back time to the 1930s? Any problems Japan has with its neighbours have mainly been self-inflicted by the cretins in charge and those gullible enough to buy into their agenda.

Any changes will first have to be approved by the occupying authority, the US.

The US has always been keen for Japan to buy its military gear and get involved in its military fiascos. The US might shut Abe and other pro-revision politicians down if they didn't approve of this kind of talk by its LDP quislings.

That's a joke, surely.

Most depressingly, it's a joke that 6 of his fellow commenters endorse. God help us all.

Gangnam style???

It looks like an underarm spray commercial.

If these clowns actually repeal Article 9 Japan will become a sidekick to the American warfare state, but not a good one because of the declining population, meaning shortages in the workforce that translate into a dearth of expendable military bodies. A country with a large population can sacrifice millions of people in warfare, a nation with a falling population cannot.

What the absence of Article 9 will be to expand the Japanese arms industry and at the same time force Japan to buy American military junk.

Japan is a modern trbutary nation of the US. It’ll depend if the US approves.

It was the United States that forced Japan to create the JSDF when the Korean War broke out and US troops in Japan were sent to the Korean Peninsula leaving Japan undefended. Considering that the U.S, has been pushing Japan to amend Article 9 and rearm since then, the above is a ridiculous comment.

Japan is rapidly heading towards the self-assertive, self-confident route which will inevitably lead towards confrontation

Japan, after having resisted US demands for 70 years has been forced into amending it's defense ability because of China's military and territorial expansion, along with North Korea's perpetual belligerence.
