Might want to do this in future before the end of every Diet session, allot time devoted to managing scandals.

Like a phase in a board game

the LDP is trying to contain the fallout by throwing Abe under the bus. Fine. No problem. But remember as the saying goes- No honour among thieves.

And the main character is nowhere to be seen. So convenient.

Abe will need to confront directly these issues himself -  if he wants a major slab of the electorate to be appeased.

This very short meeting - can you believe 1 day - at least is a start to confronting un-democratic arrogance.

anybody with a brain bigger than abe's favourite dish, katsu-don, knows he must go. but, who will replace the twit is the big question. so many twits...

When Abe's away the rats will play.... bye bye Abe.

This is a waste of taxpayers money, what does the DPJ think the will achieve by

convening in the absence of the chief culprit. Are they so desperate they will fall

for any cheap plot. The LDP are trying to repair their battered image, they know

without the chief culprit around they will come out looking better, they know fully

well agreeing to the special session is sending a message to the public that the LDP

is against corruption and being cooperative in shedding light on the impending scandals.

Disappointed in the DPJ.

drlucifer - I respectfully disagree with you there. The opposition parties have been successful in keeping the scandals in the public eye through their attacks in parliament, which are always reported in the mass media.

This will ensure further reporting, possibly with an emboldened press now that the LDP are on the back foot.

And the day in parliament could produce some further bombshells.

I would prefer that the DPJ actually start devising and publicising some policies, but as a political strategy, convening parliament is not a bad one.

Perhaps some of them are getting wise to the fact that they should have left him to rot in the political wilderness in 2007. Abject failures rarely deserve second chances.

Why don't they wait a couple of days and hold the hearings when dishonest Abe is able to attend? After all, he keeps saying he wants to explain clearly what he has been up to.

Excellent point Simon, but I think we should say that about the whole party. The whole LDP needs to rot in the political wilderness.

Cucashoboy,

Abe is culprit numero uno and has to attend and explain himself.

Nothing will be achieved doing it in his absence.

I don't see what the DPJ is trying to achieve in Abe's absence.

The scandal will not die down suddenly because Abe is on short

trip abroad. The LDP are smart enough to agree holding it in Abe's absence

because they won't be viewed as being an obstacle and against calling

those involved to the diet.

Abe is on short trip abroad

abe is always on a short trip abroad. (49 countries between December 2012 and September 2014) and counting. when at home, he breaks all the good things that exist.

He needs the trips to escape his mums venomous tongue. "SHINZO,!!"

Well, one step at a time. There are some decent people in the LDP, like there are decent people in every party everywhere, but Abe is the embodiment of how the party is basically built on nepotism, cronyism, sleazy deals and contempt for democracy.
