No it didn't. WWII ended in 1945. The Korean War started in 1950.

"The war dividing the Koreas originated with WW2"

A strange way to phrase it but this comment is correct. There was no war but the country was divided in 1945, at the end of WW II.

Mattis had decent military career has evolved into a traitor of US fathers.

He is probably the most beloved modern US General... your comment makes no sense.

Mattis is not long for the Trump administration. Only the word of the incoherent Trump matters. Abe Shinzo ought to be very nervous.

Is it just me, or does Onodera look like he's trying to hold something inside in that pic?

Its hard to swallow that the only concern jp has regarding nk is this one issue. The war dividing the Koreas originated with WW2

Its hard to swallow that the only concern jp has regarding nk is this one issue. The war dividing the Koreas originated with WW2 and that one was bubble thinking by the very jp.

No ideas on how to help a neighbor whose dire position was caused right here?

Instead all diplomacy goes into a few dozen individuals.

Is it me or is the PM a bit spoilt?

“Interesting that comments promoting the idea that Japan should modern its military are deleted by the moderators on this site despite being of no offensive nature whatsoever.”

This is because Japan hates change. And so any mention or views of revising Article #9 are ostracized and considered radical.

I think all those Marines on Okinawa should go home. Let young Japanese guys catch Chinese bullets if the “s”-hits-the-fan.

Interesting that comments promoting the idea that Japan should modern its military are deleted by the moderators on this site despite being of no offensive nature whatsoever. What is the excuse?

It’s a “special relationship” because Japan is a protectorate of the USA. What would be normal is if Japan renounced Article #9 and grows up a little.

Ganbare Japan - if all other nations had such a special relationship, it wouldn't be special, it would be normal!

Excellent news. I am happy the Abductee issue is being taken up sincerely by Japans greatest friend, USA. If only all other nations could have such a special relationship as Japan-USA.I really like Mattis.

They all are playing Abe for the fool that he is.

Shame the US won't do anything about it. In fact, I won't be surprised when they ask Abe to tone down the military drills as NK wants and start giving them support again, all so Trump looks good. I'll be even less surprised when Abe agrees to whatever Donald asks.
