Good move Moon. Boycott Japan.

@Yohan

I think he is now very disappointed. The beginning for dialog between North and South was so promising, but now after a few years he has to admit the result of all he tried is zero. Nothing at all.

People tend to forget the past so easily.

Acknowledge the 1965 aggrement and tell your Supreme Court to respect and abide by that agreement.

Interesting. Do most Japanese people believe this kind of interference by the government in the Japanese judiciary system is possible?

For reference, in S. Korea, the former president is in jail for doing it.

ANYONE who promotes the neurotic relationship between Nihon and Hanguk is an ENEMY of both and there is a very well known game played by psychopaths called "Let's you and him fight!" (see: Dr Eric Berne) which allows said psychopath much opportunity to exploit both while they are engaged in hostility with each other. Governments and Corporations play this game unmercifully and reflexively. 'Whites' should stay far away from this intraAsian sibling rivalry as we have no 'skin' in the game other than what we can take from these people because we have little, really, to actually GIVE them. Or, perhaps, that is the point...

Regarding the Koreans setting up their own food supply, actually Japan set up their own food service at the 2018 olympics.

The radiation checks is something that the Japanese government set up themselves in may this year to check certain foods coming out of certain regions in japan set for export out of the country.

The US FDA issued their own alert to check radiation levels on certain foods mirroring the Japanese government

Japan is no threat for the security of South Korea.

Japan is a security threat to the ROK as long as Japan claims the Liancourt Rocks, and a battle plan exists to deal with such a contingency situation.

There is no reason at all for South Korea to attack Japan

Should Japan decide to invade the Liancourt Rocks, the ROK's battleground is no longer restricted to the Liancourt Rocks and Tsushima; Tokyo is now included.

nor do I see any reason why Japan should ever attack South Korea.

1) Liancourt Rocks

2) JGSDF landing in North Korea. Japanese defense ministry has expressed its desires to land some troops in North Korea for the stated reason of rescuing so-called kidnapees, but the ROK warned Japan to not attempt any landing during the NK regime collapse scenario or they would be attacked.

It is their business, none wants to care but Um país, dois sistemas wouldn't work on the Korean peninsula.

You can't expect real public voice from the North, so listen to the voice from South whether you want to live under Kim Dynasty or democracy.

(yohan) South Korean President Moon Jae-in is not a bad person

Oh I beg to differ. He's a terrible person. Invalidating Japanese compensation and apologies on a whim (with the whereabouts of that money unknown). Consistently disrespecting and acting hostile towards Japan. Approving movements like boycotting Japan. Refuses to acknowledge his administration's errors and lack of critical thinking, and instead demonizes Japan to cover for it. And I haven't even talked about the rest of his administration's failures.

I understand and appreciate your comment, however we have to see both sides of him. He is a Northerner, grown up after Korean War in Busan in poverty and a bit of a dreamer to find a way of unification. He was even in jail for his political views, but interesting, he made it up to become the president of the ROK.

He is clearly not Japan-friendly, but I think Japan should not reject him because of that but to do its best to convince him to co-operate with Japan not only economically, but also in a more open-minded political way.

Any hostility between Japan and South Korea does not make any sense.

I also think he finally understood - despite he really tried his best - that a friendly dialog with North Korea is much more difficult than what he expected it to be.

Moon is acting on the wrong idea though. No politician is thin-skinned enough to be bothered by a diplomat's comments like that, they should be used to hearing WAY worse every day. It was just a convenient excuse that also gets him some political capital.

Something really very true with your comment if we read back what kind of abusive terms South Korean government officials are receiving frequently from North Korea.

Korea doesn't need a massive navy, all Korea needs is thousands of ballistic missiles to bombard all critical locations, including the Prime Minister's residence, Japanese MoD HQ, Japanese Diet, all major naval and air bases, etc. Korea is sitting on 5,000 rounds of ballistic missiles and is adding hundreds more each year.

Nonsense talk - the government which is questioning the existence of the South Korean government is not Japan, but North Korea.

Japan is no threat for the security of South Korea. There is no reason at all for South Korea to attack Japan, nor do I see any reason why Japan should ever attack South Korea.

No head of state (or anybody else) should be coming to Japan for the Olympics, but simply for the reason that nobody should be supporting them.

Moon is acting on the wrong idea though. No politician is thin-skinned enough to be bothered by a diplomat's comments like that, they should be used to hearing WAY worse every day. It was just a convenient excuse that also gets him some political capital.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in is not a bad person, but he was always dreaming, as a Northener himself, to create a friendly relationship with North Korea. Even divided and ruled as two different countries, if fully co-operating economically, 52 million people from the South, and 28 million people from the North, a 'Unified but divided Korea', might become a very powerful economic power and a serious competition for Japan.

I think he is now very disappointed. The beginning for dialog between North and South was so promising, but now after a few years he has to admit the result of all he tried is zero. Nothing at all.

His time is running out. What can he do now? He wants to talk again with Japan 'somehow', obviously Japan is still the better neighbour for the South Korean economy than North Korea, like it or not. That's more or less the only option left for him.

A dilemma, not easy to be a South Korean politician.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

That's not gonna happen...ever.

It may not be as far fetched as you think. Korea just needs to do enough lobbying to get a future US president to officially make a statement on Japanese war atrocities in colonial Korea and China and to denounce Japan's worship of war criminals. Similar to Biden's acknowledgement of the Armenian genocide and Turkish war crimes. That would be the catalyst that Korea needs.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

@ReasonandWisdomNippon

Offering to pay money is not going to make this go away, not for a very long time. Not until Japanese society as a whole comes to a consesus and acknowledgement of Japan's past sins and they stop worshiping war criminals. I'm willing to bet that Korea is intensifying their campaign on historical disputes with Japan, not simply to find closure, but to create more controversy and discussion about Japan's war crimes in colonial Korea with the international community. To change the worldview on Japan. Why do you think they are trying to build more and more comfort women memorials around the world? Probably the next step would be to make the boycott campaign against Japan go global, similar to how the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) against Israel took off. If that succeeds, no amount of anime will redeem Japan's image.

-19 ( +1 / -20 )

Moon is done. Don't waste time on him.

20 ( +23 / -3 )

Hard to tell how sincere he is. This is the same administration that threatened to pull out of GSOMIA and then lied about consulting the U.S.

19 ( +21 / -2 )

@ReasonandWisdomNippon

Acknowledge the 2015 comfort women deal and say South Korea will stand by it as promised. Irreversible.

The 2015 Comfort women agreement is dead, done, finished. It's not coming back

Acknowledge the 1965 aggrement and tell your Supreme Court to respect and abide by that agreement.

Unlike Japan, Korea has a strict and clear separation of power. Executive have absolutely no sway over Judiciary's decision.

To attack Japan you need a massive Navy

Korea doesn't need a massive navy, all Korea needs is thousands of ballistic missiles to bombard all critical locations, including the Prime Minister's residence, Japanese MoD HQ, Japanese Diet, all major naval and air bases, etc. Korea is sitting on 5,000 rounds of ballistic missiles and is adding hundreds more each year.

What made Moon admin so stupidly confident to think SK could win concession on all issues of concern from Japan just by attending opening ceremony in Tokyo? Isn't he and his staffs really morons?

he added the South Korean government could not ignore the sentiment of the public over the remark.

Neither could Japanese government ignore the sentiment of the public over half-as*d compromise against South Korea any longer.

18 ( +20 / -2 )

Ignore him. Act like he doesn't exist. It will drive him crazy just as Kim the Fat (or is it Kim the Slim now ?) purposely ignores him. He'll be on his knees groveling in no time if the Japanese treat him like the nothing he is.

19 ( +22 / -3 )

I think the Jgov dudes are feeling the same way laughing as they have their legs propped up on the coffee table drinking beers and eat dried squid strips.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Dear Mr. Moon Jae In,

If your feelings are sincere then you have the power to change relations for the best before leaving office.

Acknowledge the 2015 comfort women deal and say South Korea will stand by it as promised. Irreversible.

Acknowledge the 1965 aggrement and tell your Supreme Court to respect and abide by that agreement. Not one time No, then One time Yes.

Acknowledge the value of Japan as a neighbor, economic ally, for the National Security of S. Korea which is connected to North Korea by land supported by China. To attack Japan you need a massive Navy, to attack S. Korea I Walk by Foot, a stone throw away. You Need Japan. More then we Need You.

We need Sincere and Honest Actions from S. Korea Mr. Moon Jae In. We are tired of Korean Games of back and forth, one comment away from leaving GSOMIA.

18 ( +22 / -4 )

He was never going to go in the first place. Soma gave him a convenient excuse not to, so stupid of him.
