I read this article, and more about this enduring mystery, further obscured with the sponsorship of the DPRK, and was instantly reminded of a couple of haunting portions of a poem by Edgar Allan Poe called Dream-Land :

Resolved?! Where are they all? Where are the bodies (if they’re dead)? There are still many more questions than answers.

Abe used this fake issue to become PM the first time in a cynical political hack. Nothing has been accomplished by this matter being endlessly flogged by the NHK on orders from Abe. And as always Japan has never really come to terms with the 500,000 Koreans who were abducted during the colonization of Korea to become slaves in Japan for Japanese companies.

North Korea can put this issue to rest by accounting for the missing abductees. If they are all dead there would be records, ashes, etc. Such evidence would put the matter to rest.

North Korea did provide ashes before that proved to be not the person they were purported to be. Clearly they are playing games and Japan does not trust them. But then, what country does?

Heck if this issue was already resolved like that NK's stupidly lazy and insincere manner, with full of lies, there would be absolutely no issues left at all, which Japan is supposed to care about the current and the past of peninsula any longer.

Just to be clear, the opposition(Like DPJ, JCP) were even more enraged with tougher stance toward NK's attitude on this issue and had criticized severely LDP's approach trying to put this issue to rest in 2002.

It's not a political issue and if NK misjudges it, majority of Japanese really wish NK collapse completely, the sooner and the better, not to mention small NK community in Japan

Just to be clear, you know how useless, corrupt and incompetent the LDP are, and you can't plausibly deny allegations that morally bankrupt dynastic hacks like Abe have just been exploiting this issue for political capital, so you try to change the topic to the opposition any chance you get.

"Resolved already. "Will hurt relations in they keep bringing it up. etc."

But Kishida WILL bring it up, because what else is he going to do? honestly tackle Covid-19 or Japan's other myriad of domestic issues? No... this is one of Japan's go-to tactics when leaders are facing an uphill battle to come up with ideas for things at home.

Free the abducted Japanese!

Blue Ribbon is not political props. It is the pledge to bring them back. All I said was, even if Japan has the opposition starts ruling the country, the issue would certainly remain even harder according to the official statements made by the opposition in 2002 and onward, except the one NK-influenced party which had been denying the abduction no matter what, used to be run by Korean-Japanese.

Did they really? Have you ever read it? You just need to count the numbers to refuse their accountings.

I'm sure the missing abductees are dead. There were some whose bodies were buried and the graveyard was washed away by flooding. I do doubt the cause of death but.... there are no more to come back.

The government knew or suspected what was going on in the 80s.

They did.... but nobody wants to hear that. Especially the government that KNEW its citizens had been taken and did NOTHING! This is the real scandal.

No they didn't. They returned ashes of one of the abductees which turned out to be the wrong person on DNA analysis.
