The jasdf is scheduled to receive ospreys in the near future, I wonder if there will be the same opposition?

This really isn't anything surprising, everyone throughout the country says they "support the people in Okinawa" but only so long as the military doesn't come into their backyard!

Nope, so long as a "Japanese" is piloting the aircraft and it's JSDF they won't complain. And the only people who really do complain are a small but noisy group of anti-us military anything types.

Proof is in the fact that there have been numerous incidents over the years with JSDF aircraft, including helicopters and nary a peep of "protest".

The public is going to think the Osprey is the next best thing to fried bacon when the JSDF receives them!

The best solution is for the US military to do their training on their own soil. They can take their bases with them too. We don't want them.

Annoying. I've looked into the stats and the completed version (as opposed to its developmental counterpart) is perfectly safe. Opposing the US military for ideological purposes is something I can understand (even if I don't agree), but this is just kneejerk know-nothingism.

Sounding like a bunch of cowards, sidestepping the question, but I guess they have to protect their political asses.

This is why the small island Okinawa has 13 U.S. Military Bases and all of Mainland Japan has only 8. There have been more reduction of U.S. Military Bases and troops in Mainland Japan than in Okinawa. The reason there are so many Marines on Okinawa is because the Mainland Japanese protested against them and got them moved to Okinawa. Mainland Japanese are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites for forcing the people of Okinawa to bear most of the burden for hosting U.S. Military Bases when it is the Mainland Japanese who benefit the most from them.

If you think the people of Okinawa wont protest against the JSDF then you do not know them very well. I can remember when JSDF personnel on Okinawa were not allowed to take part in local Coming of Age ceremonies and the Dragon Boat Races that are held every year. The people of Okinawa don't have a lot of love for the JSDF either and if they start having incidents similar to the type of incidents that the U.S. Military has, then the people of Okinawa will speak out against them just like they do the U.S. Military.

No this is NOT the reason, you conveniently choose to close a blind eye to history, or should I say you are trying to rewrite history, much like Abe, creating things that didn't happen to fit your version of it, thankfully the world knows otherwise.

This is utter nonsense,

These folk (The US military) are here to protect your ***** and you should be grateful that these men and women who owe you nothing, are willing to die to protect YOU! (The complainers)

I am not American but would have no problem living next door to a base. This issue really winds me up. Be careful what you wish for folks. There are a lot of beaches that would be perfect for an assault on your pretty little island. Who would protect you if the US pulled out? The JSDF???

Yeah, right.

Lol Yubaru strikes again. Ive never seen a weeaboo with a track record of so much outrageous claims

claiming US murder suspects should be tried in the US instead of Japan because the punishment would be harsher. But apparently he never bothered to keep up with the news when Japan sought to put Gadson in life imprisonment while the guys who committed the gang rape of a Japanese girl in the 90s received short sentences (only to commit more violence at home)

Has no experience with Okinawa. If he even bothered reading local news, he would discover how large anti-base sentiment is.

Locals do complain about JSDF issues. You wouldn't know since you cant read Japanese news.

He is a Japanese citizen living in Okinawa. I'd say he has some experience with it.

Nobody in Okinawa is surprised about such news. Okinawa has been experiencing this kind of abuse and discrimination since generations.

@ Yubaru

If you want to talk about history tell the full story. Okinawa has been first colonialized, then forcefully annexed by Japan and has since been discriminated in manyfold ways by a central government that sees Okinawa as subordinate outpost that can be conveniently abused to protect the mainland.

While directly after the war the massive concentration if US military in Okinawa was a direct result of a geopolitical and military strategic abuse of Okinawa by Tokyo, the same massive und unequal concentration of US military 45 years after the reversion of Okinawa to Japan is a sign of a non-functional democracy and structural discrimination in Japan.

While the present status quo surely is a result of history, history can not excuse the blatant injustice Okinawa is still enduring today.

So long as Okinawa remains a Japanese prefecture, they will have to comply with Central Government orders and accept the military "occupations".

If Okinawans, especially Onaga and comrades, don't want either JSDF presence on Okinawa, then the only solution is to secede from Japan and become a sovereign independent country.  Then he can oust the JSDF and U.S. military.

Otherwise, put up or shut up!
