Canada is on the Pacific and lots of issues with China. Least of which are imprisoned citizens. Maybe invite them? Lots of other nations too

It would be easier to take him seriously, if his mask wasn't so ridiculous.

The forming of the Quad grouping of the US, Japan, India, and Australia together with the joint note of Europe's big three Britain, Germany, and France in UN against China's nine-dash line claim are a turning point in the fight against China's expansion in the so-called "South China Sea."

The next step is to right the wrong and change the "South China Sea" to Southeast Asia Sea, as the first never belonged to China.

"The rest of Asia should unite against China without the Americans."

US is the only country militarily and economically stronger than China. Without the Americans any anti-China alliance will be a pipedream, since China will use a carrot-or-stick approach to coerce countries into accepting their demands. Look at ASEAN, they have not even been able to come up with a joint statement against China's SCS claims inspite of having Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore who have been at the receiving end of China's bullying.

Sneaky China must put to a stop.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

I wonder if he was wearing a Chinese-made Trump Collection tie while bashing the Chinese...

Pompeo is at least smart enough to stay on the road and away from Trump and any more of his super-spreader events...

With his size, he has to be careful...

All countries must reduce their dependence on China to the maximum to be more safe and secure in the future as it is most untrustworthy country in the world and flouts all accords and agreements with immunity.

When did 'slam' become an acceptable description for a news website. I see it everywhere, such an awful phrase.

It is about time that nations are waking up to the fact that China isn't their friend.

The world has become top reliant on them for cheap stuff and has to move away and find new suppliers. Ones without concentration camps.

If the US, Japan, India, and Australia work any more closely, they’ll be making babies. Good grief, Charlie Brown, give it a rest.

I find it disturbing that you are so Pro-China. It's a rarity for an American living in Japan.

The Quad concept goes back to 2007.

"As early as 2007, when the first Quad meetings were proposed, China issued formal diplomatic protests to all parties involved, and later that year Australia pulled out over fears of offending Beijing, and the alliance was put on hold until 2017, when meetings resumed, in large part due to growing concerns over Chinese advances in the South China Sea."

Japan is a democratic nation and it's interests lie with the world's democratic nations. Not with a one party dictatorship. It is already pulled well into this coming conflict as are all nations that are allied with the United States.

China is not going to be permitted to take over the region or the world under the present authoritarian regime.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

We already had one in place. It was called the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, was a proposed trade agreement between Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, and the United States signed on 4 February 2016.

Trump cancelled it, for no other reason than it occurred during the Obama administration. He has never come close to achieving anything on this level. Go away Pompeo, and let the adults in the room take over in January.

Stupid mask with a flag on it. Do these people have to bring their wretched nationalism into everything?

all the nations shall work together to control zhina, so that we are not afraid of its despicable economy threat. zhina always think that it can use its economy influence to threaten other nations, but they forget if all nations stand together, they can use their combine economy strength to hit back zhina instead

The Kuomintang (KMT) group in Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan" proposed two bills, asking the island's authorities to request US assistance in resisting the Communist Party of China and to resume diplomatic ties with the US. The move is widely believed to checkmate the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and put the DPP in a difficult position.

> But regardless of the intention behind the move, it is believed that the KMT legislators have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. They have gone downhill and become vulgar. They would do anything to just get rid of their political passivity on the island of Taiwan. They are losers.

> Judging from such a loser mentality of the KMT, it is clear that we must not count on them for future cross-Straits peace and national reunification. On the upside, those politicians' treachery have helped the Chinese mainland see clearly what is happening on the island. We must no longer hold any more illusions. The only way forward is for the mainland to fully prepare itself for war and to give Taiwan secessionist forces a decisive punishment at any time. As the secessionist forces' arrogance continues to swell, the historical turning point is getting closer.

> It's certain that the current status of the island of Taiwan is only a short period in history that will definitely come to an end. The initiative of ending this period while minimizing losses and maximizing gains toward the rise of China in the process is firmly in the hands of the Chinese mainland. The more trouble Taiwan creates, the sooner the mainland will decide to teach Taiwan independence forces a hard lesson.

pls read carefully how China sees their peace making role in our world. Shocking article from Global Times

This is not a "Trump" thing. The negative view of China is bipartisan in the US and global in nature.

"Global perceptions of China have turned increasingly negative in recent months, according to a new survey released by Pew Research on Tuesday, with the majority of countries polled saying that Beijing has done a bad job of handling the coronavirus pandemic.Trust in Chinese President Xi Jinping has also plunged over the past 12 months, with more than 77% of people surveyed in the United States saying they had no confidence in Xi to "do the right thing" in global affairs.Non-partisan American "fact-tank" Pew Research surveyed 14,276 adults in 14 countries between June and August, primarily by telephone due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Among the countries surveyed were the US, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom."

Things were not so bad between China and the rest of the world until a certain person said that trade wars are good, and easy to win, and started demonizing China for all the world's problems.

One can hope that a return to rational leadership in Washington will help defuse tensions with China.

Search when china started building bases on coral reefs in the pacific, when they started fishing in others waters, when they had border disputes, I think you may find it started long before this certain person came to office, but bang on Orange man bad BS seems you like it.

Civilized people make friends, crazy people make enemies.

Absolutely correct thats why everyone is aghast at what china is doing around the pacific, in Hong Kong Taiwan and its neighbors and borders, crazy isnt it.

All the threats all the time from China , they have even been threatening Australia who is way down the bottom of the pacific, Absolutely crazy ! ! !

China did so many nasty thinks in last 10 months that nobody wants to be a friend with them. Australia just asked for independent investigation about what really happened in Wuhan and China immediately lashed back with embargo and threats.  World deserves to know what really happened in Wuhan but communist tyranny will of course lie and cover everything

China talks of friendship to lull countries into a false sense of security, just like Hitlers Nazi's did in the 1930's.

Hitler persecuted the Jews while building his military machine for war, while telling Europe that Germany really was friendly to everyone and just wanted to be enjoy good trade. Xi persecutes the Uighur's while building his military for war and trying to convince the world it is really a very friendly country just wanting to advance trade.

Those who bought what Hitler sold paid dearly for it. Will the world ignore China until it begins wars, taking what IT says belongs to it. Like the Nazi's did. China will begin wars on others territories but the world will be forced to take it to China to end its aggression. Such action will end with total destruction or China's occupation. Either way China will be stopped. It is not destined to rule the world as Xi wishes.

The Quad is the first pillar to stop Chinese aggression. It will not be the last.

The rest of Asia should unite against China without the Americans.

No. The US is vital to the QUAD alliance, and ensuring the security and freedom of the region. Because China knows if they start anything in the region, or try and steal territory (they are eyeing Okinawa and Taiwan for instance) the US (and QUAD allies) will come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Further, there are several nations in Asia that cannot be trusted to actively oppose China if conflict happens - Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines for example. All of whom are becoming economically and politically too close to the PRC, and seem scared.

Well done Pompeo, a future President perhaps, and well done QUAD in standing up to the bully commies.

Trump cancelled it, for no other reason than it occurred during the Obama administration

What is it about anti-Trump people that the chip/s on their shoulder/s so affect their ability to remember or see things as they were, and as they are now.

TPP was an expansion of TPSEP which started in mid 2000s. Not Obama, either. If there's one thing that you can blame Trump for it's his stance against globalization.

Obama released $100 billion to Iran, and ever since the money has been used to fund terrorists all over the middle east. Iran money - Europe gets the refugees.

Communists de$pots and drug lords in South America desperate for controls of people, USA gets the refugees.

Communist China desperate for control of information, the world gets the plague.

Less than 2% of global dirty money gets flagged and less than .5% stopped from money laundering. Global banks complicit.

You want to continue on this globalization thing that only Communist China, totalitarian states and criminal syndicates wants? Vote Biden then.

I wonder how seriously U.S. worries about the securities of this region from the threat of China. I doubted about it when U.S. Forces in Japan didn't play any role of deterrence when China bullied Japan on Senkaku. Japanese people felt U.S. is very insensitive about Japanese people's worries. It is too late China already reclaimed a reef in South China Sea and built their military base. For Americans, this area of the world may be too far from their country and is not a immediate threat to them.

As expected, there was no joint statement from the members.

Of course they know Pompeo's statement is just a charade.

As long as the USA still adamantly refuses to re-establish full diplomatic ties with 'friend' and 'ally' and 'like- minded' fellow democracy ROC-TW then this Washngjing's bashing of Beijington is instantly exposed as a farce.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

A big concerning factor is (again) Trump who would easily fail Quad concerted efforts by jumping to grab China money in the name of "making a good deal." He's already done the same against the TPP. All is about money or tangible profits (in a short term), and he has no hesitation to stab his allies in the back or in a Japanese expression, "to take away the ladder when you are just climbing or on the roof".

Meanwhile US Congress, other political institutions and majority American public can still be trustworthy, consistent, bipartisan and united against the CCP.

Quad , at the same time, Blue Dot Network would be worth of stability not only of Indian pacific region but also of developed counties.

It could bring higher quality and security for developing countries when they obtain loans. This would help them truly grow up.

Like Sri Lanka ,Maldives, etc. have much debts that is unclear to payback.

Pompeo's words will only be credible if he attends the ROC-Taiwan's National Day celebrations and announce the re-establishment of full diplomatic ties with the democratic Island Republic.

Failure to do so will not only hurt America's credibility but will make him today's Pinnochio.

As Ichabod said, action sounds louder than plain salivating with mere words of bashing China while still helping Beijing isolate Taiwan by refusing to re-establish diplomatic love with 'ally' and 'friend' and 'like minded' Taipei.

That is da-kine nothin but the plain truth.

The time of fake news , fake friends and fake allies are over.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Japan on Tuesday to rally support from Washington's closest allies in Asia, calling for deeper collaboration with Japan, India and Australia as a bulwark against China's growing regional influence.

OK Dokey Pompeo!

But first don't forget to re-establish full diplomatic ties with 'friend', 'ally' and 'like minded' democratic ROC-TW!

How come an 'ally' refuses to have diplomatic relations with a fellow 'ally Taipei'?

But instead have lavish diplomatic ties with da-kine authoritarian China?

Can we trust such an 'ally' ? Pinocchio and the Joker will be thy judge!

About the US flag masks? A bit over the top, but I've seen nothing better from many countries, satirists and commercial enterprises. Seen any Japanese face masks, lately? And had a mild heart attack at their prices?

I'd rather die another day.

This. Put your money where your mouth is. The US wants that 850 million middle class consumers. No doubt about it.

Out sourcing your countryman’s jobs for cheap labor allowed the Chinese to capitalize and build the military they now have and plan to use,

This. China is yet another mess and monster the US created since the 2000’s outsourcing and hollowing out US manufacturing when the US was too busy attending to another monster Saddam Hussein and the weapons of mass destruction mess that they also created.

Corrupt governments have run economies in to the ground in a lot of these INDO ASIAN Countries, corruption that has stolen money that could have been used to build their own militaries up to a point where they would at least be able to defend their own soil, much less a section of the South China Sea.

And this. The US poured money into the corrupt Taiwan China regime that lost to the Communists.

It does look like the meeting of Quad in Tokyo could turn out to be yet another China slamming session, notably by the infamous US State Secretary. Some people just don't get tired. Anyway, this may be his last chance, for his chances to remain as SS would be real slim after November election.

I find it disturbing that you are so Pro-China. It's a rarity for an American living in Japan.

Personally, I'm anti-CCP, but that doesn't mean I'm anti-China. I'm just anti-American monopoly. The CCP is just an excuse to keep global power in American hands. If it had been any other country like India, USA will find an excuse too. USA doesn't want to see another globally strong country.

I don't want to see Japan pulled into this conflict between the USA and China. This conflict is only due to the decline of the USA and its attempts to pull down China. That is not going to happen. China is rising and the USA is falling. Better to stick with the winner.

Just curious if China and all other looted and oppressed countries make alliance and work for thier development will QUAD guys will be butt hurt?

Ohh they are and all this drama to maintain hegemony.
