Because of this, more voters got to know what kind of guy he is and his political stance through his questions/statements made in Diet. I bet he would be elected again no matter what even without belonging to any party, not because voters here are what you call morons but because of his political stance

He was drunk, that's political normality for Japan. Sweep you hair to the side and with a family connection that's a ticket to a massive tax payer funded future 60% of workers don't earn what this idiot earns in a month. He could declare war on the whole planet and still claim his exorpenent salery.

bullfighter: "In the case of Saito, the voters put him back in the Diet in 1942."

Because a lot of voters here are morons who will vote for someone, no matter what, as long as he/she is from his/her hometown. We saw that with Suzuki Muneo, who was given a prison sentence. His hometown loves him, so voted him in again. Hashimoto Toru in Osaka? Oh, well, he was "good looking", so better vote for him.

This guy succeeded in not only making a stupid comment that he said he would resign over if done AGAIN, but he gave Russia yet another reason not to negotiate with Japan.

@cricky, was just correcting lucifer's typo/mistake ('cut some flak'). No worries

2 ( +2 / -0 )

That was also the most stupid question until 1904 and what happened.

Yeah, but didn't you get the update? There's been a few developments since then.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Mate, if war broke out between Russia and Japan who would win?

That was also the most stupid question until 1904 and what happened.

Japan must scrap article 9 and build up far stronger military , not to mention, nuclear or even far more destructive weapons for real deterrence and to protect national interest.

Mate, if war broke out between Russia and Japan who would win?

exactly and apart from the thousands that would die the high probability Russia would win that war, then theyd probably annex Hokkaido for their troubles. Or at least make the northern islands one big fortified military base with thousands of troops stationed there.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

"Do you think there is any alternative to war (to recover the islands)?"

To me, it seems it was just his (awkward) way of implying they cannot get the islands back.

*slack. he's copped enough flak.

no he hasn't the bar is so low that this is acepable, I'm sorry I demand my tax money should be used for actual people who care about me, my future my children my grandchildren. He does not meet any of my criteria. Sadly he is a poster boy for many.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Well this guy should be cut some flak, he erred and has apologised.

*slack. he's copped enough flak.

In 1940 members of the Social Masses Party led a movement to get Saito Takao expelled from the Diet for questioning the "holy war" in China. Unless felony conduct is involved, calling for the censure, expulsion, or resignation of DIet members is a short-sighted and reactionary strategy. It may well set a precedent that will be used later against left-wing opposition.

Let the voters decide whether they want this guy in the Diet. That's what elections are for.

In the case of Saito, the voters put him back in the Diet in 1942.

Idiot, has a well paid job. A convenient store wouldn't hire him. He should shave his head ask for forgiveness and snuggle into the only job he has being a tax payer funded duffus.

Asking a question to a local.

How dare you not apologize and quit immediately for asking a question. We are outrage at a Japanese stand up for himself for his rights!

So let’s get this straight - you’re saying that politicians should be able to ask their constituents any question without being criticized? And if that’s incorrect, then what do you think of the actual question asked?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The guy is a known alcoholic, and he himself said that he would quit drinking after being in a similar situation before. He added that if he were ever to get drunk and make scandalous comments again he would quit then and there.

Guess not.

His crime:

Asking a question to a local.

How dare you not apologize and quit immediately for asking a question. We are outrage at a Japanese stand up for himself for his rights!

I bet you if it was the usual guy with foot-in-the-mouth disease who made that statement nothing whatsoever would have happened to him.

Yep, he should go when Aso goes.

Emalpgasizes freedom of speech but wants the Osaka Mayor to correct what the Mayor said.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's political bs, and the drunken douchebag does ask valid question that would be raised anyways when considering long-term national strategy.

Really? That's why they have closed meetings to discuss issues like this. And I highly doubt this guy has anything to do with "national strategy" with a mouth like his!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Well this guy should be cut some flak, he erred and has apologised.

He has been expelled from the party which is fine and the guy hasn't contested it. Calling him to resign from the osaka diet is unwarranted and should be determined by those who elected him that is the people of osaka in the next election. It all looks like bullying to me.

I bet you if it was the usual guy with foot-in-the-mouth disease who made that statement nothing whatsoever would have happened to him.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Give the guy a break! "Thought Crime" -- leave it alone. It's political bs, and the drunken douchebag does ask valid question that would be raised anyways when considering long-term national strategy.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Well, it’s ok to have an opinion even whilst drunk but it is a colossal error of judgement to believe that Japan would prevail over Russia in a war.

Maruyama should give up political work for grass cutting....

10 ( +11 / -1 )

LDP did a good job to correct him.

We all know you are a fan of Abe and the LDP, but this time you are wrong. This guy was not a member of the LDP, he was in "Ishin no Kai", which for the most part is a nationalistic party, started by former Osaka mayor Hashimoto Toru.

He has a point.

People like him can say those things because they know war is an impossibility. Mate, if war broke out between Russia and Japan who would win? Thought so. Back to your seat

While drunk, he asked ..........

That sums the whole fiasco up in two words.

Threatening neighbors with wars is so old fashion and imperialistic. LDP did a good job to correct him.

"I definitely cannot resign even if the motion is passed," Hodaka Maruyama said, calling the submission of a motion directed against a person's remarks a "serious situation."

Talking to the media for the first time after the Japan Innovation Party expelled him on Tuesday, he said that the Diet, as a place for free speech, is "signing its own death warrant" with the motion.

Who does this guy think he is, Trump?
