S Korea marks first 'comfort women' day

South Korean people and govt have earned respects on the comfort women issue. Many Japanese women were comfort to Japanese army too, together with other women in East Asia, forced, fooled, and humiliated.

The Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Government of Japan have intensively discussed the issue of comfort women between the ROK and Japan at bilateral meetings including the Director-General consultations. Based on the result of such discussions, I, on behalf of the Government of the ROK, state the following:

(1)    The Government of the ROK values the GOJ’s announcement and efforts made by the Government of Japan in the lead-up to the issuance of the announcement and confirms, together with the GOJ, that the issue is resolved finally and irreversibly with this announcement, on the premise that the Government of Japan will steadily implement the measures specified in 1. (2) above. The Government of the ROK will cooperate in the implementation of the Government of Japan’s measures.

(2)    The Government of the ROK acknowledges the fact that the Government of Japan is concerned about the statue built in front of the Embassy of Japan in Seoul from the viewpoint of preventing any disturbance of the peace of the mission or impairment of its dignity, and will strive to solve this issue in an appropriate manner through taking measures such as consulting with related organizations about possible ways of addressing this issue.

(3)    The Government of the ROK, together with the Government of Japan, will refrain from accusing or criticizing each other regarding this issue in the international community, including at the United Nations, on the premise that the Government of Japan will steadily implement the measures it announced.

You know, I could have understood having a day memorializing the issue. But they just had to have the word 'Japanese' as part of the official name for the holiday. There's no other reason to do that but to poke Japan in the eye over the issue. Again. Of course this will cause more animosity. Don't play stupid, Korea, you know it's exactly what you intended to do.

Sorry, "holiday" was the wrong word to use, but I was typing quickly and missed it.

But South Korean President Moon Jae-in's administration has spotlighted the emotionally-charged issue and has called for Japan to do more, despite backing down in January from formally renegotiating the deal.

Just as I had always predicted, you can never trust these people. No matter what Japan has done or continues to do, it will NEVER be enough for the anti-Japan nationalists.

When the landmark 2015 deal was announced, I knew better and had accurately predicted that within a few years, the anti-Japan crowd will conveniently overlook and minimize the deal. And how right I was.

And right on cue, South Korean authorities, like petulant children, now stabs Japan in the back yet again and whines that it's not enough, more needs to be done, etc. etc.

Pathetic, beyond words.

Only a day? Once a year? Come on... How about a comfort women month?

Japan must be prepared for the day that Japan is the most unimportant nation in Northeast Asia. That is all I know and all I can say. Japan has to make a choice: to be or not to be a part of great Northeast Asia.

For so many years after the war this issue was never talked about by either side.

Nor was the image of Japan helped when -- on the same April day that Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi delivered his "heartfelt apology" before Asian and African leaders in Jakarta -- the patriotic id of Japan popped out in the form of 80 Japanese lawmakers visiting the Yasukuni shrine, where the spirits of 14 class-A war criminals are enshrined with about 2.5 million Japanese war dead.

No wonder the Japanese are sick of hearing about comfort women. It’s impossible to take The Korean government seriously the way they use the subject to torture Japan.

Germany, unlike Japan, to date has never addressed not apologized for it's military prostitutes during WWII.

The headline just reads "comfort women". As Moon said, it is a world issue, (although events during. WW2 regarding Japan with the issue is an unhappy fact).

Read the article past the headline. It clearly states the name Korea gave to the memorial day. Clearly inflammatory.

The name given would seem to interpret as conciliatory rather than inflammatory. It remembers Japanese forces, and Korean victims.

It is not very clear though. Does it mean current forces or WW2 forces.

If President Moon really believes that this issue involves "the entire world" he might like to say a few words about the Vietnamese Women who were so badly treated by his troops during the Vietnam War. The pot calling the kettle black!

Are you kidding? It does nothing of the sort. "Memorial Day for Japanese Forces' Comfort Women Victims" It is clearly calling out the victims of the Japanese. There is no other way to interpret it and it is 100% inflammatory.

With over 200,00 Korean men in the Japanese military making use of the Comfort Stations, at a reduced rate no less, it would seem that again South Korea is ignoring an aspect of the issue that would put themselves in any position of responsibility.
