Zero life and charisma in Suga's eyes. He ought to be sipping Strong Zeroes in the local danchi courtyard.

Suga should ask Biden why the US sent $3.7 million dollars twice to fund the Wuhan Institute of Virology between 2014 and 2019.

or simply ask the EU to stop playing politics with vaccines.

Disagree here. No politics being played. The EU is producing the vaccines, and looking after their own citizens first. They are prioritizing their people, as Japan does.

Japan should be producing vaccines, simple as that.

Going to the rogue state of the USA to talk about human rights issues, how ironic.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Two virile, strong leaders of men there. Wonder if the meeting will take place in house slippers, a comfy robe and a cup of hot cocoa.

Suga prioritized to meet with Biden than measure to Corona virus despite forth wave.

Seven months since start of his regime, he had increased victim to over six times.

It's the Vaccines 4 Boycott summit.

Seven months since start of his regime, he had increased victim to over six times.

Deaths from Covid 19 in Japan have nearly doubled since the end of January. At least Suga won't be rolling around in a bunker on a golf course somewhere in Maryland, unlike his predecessor.

or simply ask the EU to stop playing politics with vaccines.

Still blaming the others right?

It's becoming like a broken records.

Japan wants a lot but....

"Tokyo is unlikely to back calls for economic sanctions over human rights violations in China, said Robert Dujarric, an East Asia expert at Temple University, Japan Campus."

This is why Japan is so weak and unable to perform on the world stage with backbone.

@Reckless

Brave and reliable?

You mean corrupt and inept!

Suga “I hope to develop a relationship of trust with President Biden and further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance bound by the universal values of freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law,”

Seriously? Japan a country of human rights and full democracy?

I wouldn't mind if such words would come from the PM of Sweden or Australia, but from him?

Hypocrisy as it's best.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Japan has taken a milder approach to allegations of Chinese human rights violations and has not joined the United States and European nations in imposing sanctions. Gen Nakatani, a ruling party lawmaker and former defense minister, is leading a nonpartisan parliamentary group calling for Suga's government to take tougher steps, including sanctions, to be in line with Western democracies, but a decision has not been made.

Better spell out the opposite "pro-Beijing" groups and leaders who are resisting to tougher anti-China policy. They are namely from the Nikai-faction within the LDP and the Komeito the junior partner of the LDP-led ruling coalition. #NikaiPleaseRetire

Dont expect much of anything from this meet up. I wonder if suga will ask Biden if he will come to Japan this summer.....

4 ( +6 / -2 )

At some point, China will have to face the music, or else! it can't continue on it's current path due to the fact it is Unsustainable.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

The fact that Suga will be the first leader to meet face-to-face with Biden doesn’t mean that the US puts priority on Japan.

It could mean that Japan wants to know what it is allowed to do next.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Yup, gone to beg for some vaccine.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

Better discuss putting missiles on Senkakus.

"The sad fact is that it's already too late to do anything about it."

Really?

1) History sees it differently; you should read it sometimes.

2) Demographics; China is aging faster than almost anywhere else, including the same Japan JT bashers love to hate.

China will age more rapidly than Japan, without reaching Japan's level of per capita GDP.

That's a fact.

Read on it too.

No link(s) left purposely; "tons" of articles on it available.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I wonder which will make more gaffes?

Suga: Hello. Who are you?

Biden: PM Moon, nice to see you again!

A photo opp to show the world slowly getting back to a familiar normal with diplomatic visits in person. While there, they will chat about what is important to each side and a few soundbites will be shared with the public.

Arrive Thursday and face to face meeting on Friday?

No quarantine needed then....

It's obvious that China is #1, for look how much the entire World allows them to get away with torture, murder, spying, stealing intellectual/trade secrets, etc, etc.

The sad fact is that it's already too late to do anything about it.

Spoken like a good Wumao. No it's not too late and you are in for an unpleasant surprise if you think China is going to be like before 2020.

It could mean that Japan wants to know what it is allowed to do next.

The US view is that too often the US has to ask permission from its too often cowardly allies to do anything as these putative allies often seem more concerned about licking the boots of the west's enemies for whatever commercial advantage they can achieve than they are in taking any kind of concerted stand against these tyrants who threaten democratic governance.

Vaccines for weapons sales. Suga is a soft target.

America’s best exports are weapons, drugs and oil.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Suga looks deeply worried. On one hand he has to follow US policy, on the other he is afraid to over-anger China if he opts for open confrontation against China..

Hard on Japan to be any kinder to China at this juncture, just make sure it won't get much worse for the sake of peace and stability in East-Asia..

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Japan is now the most important American ally.

@himari

Haha!

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Look how far behind Japan is being left.

One of the worst crisis and we need to buy vacinnes from other countries.

China has one and working on more.

Russia has one.

Japan when it comes to vaccines, we are at the level of a 3rd world country. A banana republic country. Waiting for Western countries to send us their vacinnes.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Japan is not allowed to criticize China because if it does, China will bring out all those pictures showing the evil things Japanese did to the Chinese during occupation and the war. Japan is not in a position to make moral judgments.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Let's hope Biden takes pity on him/Japan and arranges some vaccines.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

He did not wait for two full weeks after hi second shot. Biden should hide in the Cones of Silence.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

A good show of not understanding any things that is of the future. Very very sad. this is too old politics.

Suga beats me with the 100 daily situps he does every morning and night.

Sit-ups are for women, press ups are for men. It’s all about the missionary position.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

The reason for "decoupling" with China is that the US realizes that it cannot compete with China anymore. The US is sinking and China is rising. Japan should maintain its links to China and ignore the decoupling demands of the sinking US.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

"I hope he asks the President to airlift some vaccines, and I hope he agrees."

or simply ask the EU to stop playing politics with vaccines.

-12 ( +9 / -21 )

I wish PM Suga a safe trip. Biden made the right move. Japan is now the most important American ally.
