Biden or not, Japan will probably have to pay more for hosting American military bases.

What is it that makes me think that the LDP was far more comfortable with Trump than will be with Biden?
No flight to the US after this election with gold plated golf clubs for Biden. He will definitely not forget how Abe was the sole Western leader to pander to Trump.

Who wouldn’t want to strengthen alliances with the US?
ccp might gain something from it.

That's a surprise.

Good for Suga & Biden but Japan, like much of the rest of world, knows that one day in the not too distant future, Americans are going to wake up and realise that while they’ve been protesting against perceived social injustice, in clothes made by actual slaves in Xinjiang, China has strategically checkmated them.
And things will get very ugly indeed.

How exactly? Short of being strapped across a bench and taken roughly from behind, Japan is basically the 51st state.

Honestly, what choice does Suga have? But he should beware not to mispronounce Harris's first name(as Sotomayor did at the swearing in ceremony). It's comma-la, not co-MAH-la

China has strategically checkmated them.
The China stand will determine Biden's future..and given, as many as 20 Indian-Americans in his team..could be a indicator how this will shape out..

Unlikely. Trump would hold a grudge like that because he had the emotional maturity of a 2 year old.
I don't see Biden, or any other functioning adult in the same position for that matter, approaching diplomacy like that.

When Japan's conservative politicians express hope to strengthen the bilateral alliance, they want the U.S. forces to defend Japan in accordance as the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty stipulates, in exchange for which Japan will guarantee them free use of bases and areas.
Thus, the U.S. military footprint in Okinawa will never be reduced and the plan to relocate Futenma to Henoko will be forged ahead shamelessly and blatantly despite Okinawa's strong opposition.

Tell him get back to tpp or China will beat them to it.

Abe, from the land of the setting sun apparently.

[ Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Thursday congratulated Joe Biden on his inauguration as U.S. president and expressed hope to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. alliance.
"Japan and the United States are allies tied firmly by bonds and shared universal values," Suga said in a tweet in English. "I look forward to working with you and your team to reinforce our alliance and to realize a free and open Indo-Pacific." ]
The standard LDP mantra = Thank you for the past 60 odd years and let's continue to collaborate so our grandsons can also go on to become prime minister/high ranking officials (i.e. CIA-backed Kishi and his grandson Shinzo Abe).

Too old way of thinking.
