Did he or anyone else really expect otherwise?

They need to bring back that hugely popular song from 2003, "Suga Suga" by Frakie J and Baby Bash. Fits perfectly.

Let's see if the rural and mostly elderly living on fixed income are singing his praise when he raises the consumption tax.

Okay media, you have brainwashed us to believe Mr. Suga will be the next PM. Just appoint him and save us the reading time.

And what is the difference between "hip hop" t-shirts and "regular" t-shirts? Or is the author trying to suggest that the younger generation in Akita is supporting him too?

And wouldnt it be ironic if he DIDNT win!

"The chief cabinet secretary isn't cute, but when I created these products I thought 'cute' would probably sell better," he said with a laugh.

ralph!! Huewy!!

If you want to know about the REAL Yuzawa read this, it is not an uplifting story.....

@expat, my thoughts exactly!

Suga has my support for now.

The dream politician who checks all your boxes doesn't exist.

This guy isn't exactly oozing charisma. Never seen him smile.

Japan's love of cuteness also played a factor in some designs.

And all along here I thought that "hip-hop" had nothing to do with "cute", first time I have seen the two used to describe a t-shirt!

If that's the case then I'd buy one shirt as a pity piece.

Look in my eyes, what do you see? The cult of personality.

Suga is about as appealing as 100 grit toilet paper. So que the local stories and the 100 sit ups pieces.

I understand that this is a parliamentary democracy, but denying LDP rank and file the vote (which would likely result in Ishiba becoming PM), means that Suga has about as much mandate to rule as a BM.

Reminds of when I visited the northern Kyoto coastal town of Obama just after Barak Obama was elected. Barak Obama sweets, rice crackers, t-shirts and main streets lined with America flags.

i hope Suga mania will bring some pride to a prefecture with mostly over 65’s and the highest suicide rate in Japan.

Supported by a few geriatrics from a dying inaka province, wow faint praise indeed. Still, makes a change from having to see PM Abe's mug all the time.

He looks like Yoda.

Originally the name "Yoda" comes from Japanese sir name "Yoshida".

Ah great, a humanizing story to make the LDP insider about to be annointed the new ruler by a small cadre of fellow LDP insiders more folksy.

I feel better about the whole process already.

All because he’s from their hometown......wow

I wanted to bring out the hip hop style

"And you don't stop! You keep on!" could almost be an LDP motto.

what about toilet paper?

Now that I can get behind. (pun intended)

People here always support someone from their town, regardless of their politics. That's not always a good thing. In Hokkaido, Muneo Suzuki got out of prison and skulked back home... to supporters from his hometown who then voted him in again.

if you are buying a Suga t-shirt or bag you are a class-a LOSER

Yes, but where are the Suga azuki bean buns? That's what I want to know.

Just gave me an idea for a hallowing costume.
