Well, sounds like at least something will get done in a snap under Suga's watch.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

Why?

He is well,

There is nothing about Suga san that is likable,

My Mother words,

Mr Miserable.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Unfortunately, this kind of ‘snap’ doesn’t result in ‘half’ of these tired faces disappearing. It’s an opportunity for them to shore up their numbers. (Where’s Thanos when we need him?)

10 ( +13 / -3 )

He's the fall guy. He'll take the wrap for the disaster, apologize for the trouble he caused and retire in a lap of luxury. Then either Abe, Aso, or some other dumb shmuck hand picked by Nippon Kaigi will come sailing in promising to fix the mistakes Suga made and saying what he did is regrettable without actually criticizing him.

As for anyone who is DUMB enough to vote for the LDP after this, they will own whatever covid fallout there will be after the O and beyond. Not to mention the economic fallout that will follow. They will OWN it.

As much as I hate to say it, part of me hopes the games will be such a disaster that it forces the incompetent buffoon from power.

22 ( +26 / -4 )

The final proof of utter selfishness and total disregard of honour and duty. The actions of a feodal lord, medieval.

not only will i close my companies when the Games go through but i will leave Japan.

if the games happen, there is no hope for this country. No hope at all.

Deep bows,

Suga San is a step in.

A firmament, ,the past, a disappearance,

Forever the a future?

Oh yes, when when the younger generation get life, step up, and vote

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

So a quick election just in case the games end up being a superspreader event? better cut their losses before a spike of new cases begin and the Tokyo Olympic variant gets identified.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

But could be next?

Kono, Motegi, Kishi, Kajiyama?

A long list is possible, but they'll have to balance the debts and favours first, then get the final stamp of approval from Nippon Kaigi.

Is this really a democracy ? Call in for a snap election at a time that suits the ruling party.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Slow vaccine roll out.

Conducts the Hunger Games, er.... "Olympics" in spite of overwhelming disapproval.

Risks a Super-Duper Spreader event that could create the Mother of all Variants.

Toothless SOEs.

I think (and hope) the LDP gets crushed.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Snap election? Means no advance introduction of viable candidates. Just another LDP turnstile spokesman to continue the political purgatory. Can I be an instrument of change by sleeping through this next one as well?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

The prospects and high probability of that sub-terrestrial guy re-elected makes even me understand a little bit the high suicide rates. Combined with all those other things like irresponsible games , no fast vaccinations available and also no real problem solving financial or economic stimulus on the horizon…. Anybody know a quality rope company? lol

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It’s called apologize, bow down, disappear, and come back with amakuradi

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I'll eat my hat if the LDP is voted out. I've been here long enough to know the Japanese voters. Voters get what they deserve. I'm passed caring.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Very soon, the Sit-ups King is going to have a lot more free time for doing Sit-ups.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Democracy, your vote counts...ha. 90 years of the same families in power I remember Honest Abe, that didn't work out well. Hope the election is on a Premium Friday.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Paras finish in September and constitutionally an election has to be held by October 22.

If this report is true then what on earth is the point in calling a snap election with just one month to go until a normal election?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

He only got the job because it's his "turn". I hope he loses the election, but I know all too well that most Japanese people are stupid and will vote for the LDP.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Probably best for him to call a quick, snap election before the Suga-Bach-Coates variant starts ripping through Japan.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Cue musical chairs music.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Not really a snap election if we given plenty of notice now is it? But this is typical how things are done here. Even snap elections hold no surprises.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I can’t remember exactly where I read it, but I saw this wonderful one-liner which sums up Japan and politics perfectly: “The Japanese people are livid with apathy”.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The government here manipulates numbers, lies to their own people and the J elite don’t care. Many have suffered. If the Japanese people are truly ‘smart, there will be ‘a reckoning’ in the future. We’ve followed your story for months @robertmaes 4:26pm.

“The final proof of utter selfishness and total disregard of honour & duty....there is no hope for this country. No hope at all.” -

Sorry for your business and personal losses over the last year. Unlike the greedy that are ‘milking this sad Olympic cow for every last ¥, you sir, still have ‘ Your integrity ’. - Best wishes -

Very bad timing or a very professional political plan ???.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It’s very much ‘calculated timing’ @TARATANKITAOKA 7:28pm,

- “Very bad timing or a very professional political plan?” -

So then, please answer: As a ‘citizen’ here, You have ‘a voice’.

Will YOU vote against them?

I mean, LDP will be winning a landslide no matter when the the election is called.

Those who do not like the LDP will simply not vote, and those who are loyal will always vote. Voters vote based on heritage, which gives the current politicians and their families legitimacy. Voters would rather not vote than to vote for for people whom they deem do not have the proper heritage and legitimacy. Unless politicians themselves switch parties, there is no way LDP can lose.

As long as Suga have the support of the political families, i.e. the nobility, he will still be PM. Voters do not determine who holds power, the political families and factions do.

In the end, the voters have absolute loyalty to their regional political families, so national elections are pretty meaningless here, since results are always the same no matter what.

I predict the LDP will win a majority.

I predict the LDP will win a majority

Not even a prediction, it is just a fact.

If betting sites holds bets on it, it is a bet you can bet your life savings and take loans out on. The only possible way the LDP can lose is if there are defections among LDP politicians, which there are no hints of that happening. It is impossible for the LDP to lose elections in Japan, now and forever, they enjoy overwhelming support among voters, and support had been growing in recent years especially among the young.

He'll be back in Akita working as a strawberry farmer again by September.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Chumocracy !!!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I predict an illness and then the return of our savior, SA.

Yeah, that was always the plan. A.S. back (again) smelling of roses.

Suga has said he would focus on dealing with the pandemic, and that Japan will go ahead with the Games under strict virus-protection measures.

What strict virus protection measures? Shortening business hours so more people are in restaurants at the same time, on trains (yes, some people still have to go to work and cannot work from home) and pay a lot of money to get tested?

What strict protection measures?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@ Aly Rustom

Exactly!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The voting system here plays no role within the internal ranks of parties - more so with LDP. Suga is where he is all courtesy to lobbyists and law-makers. Doors closed to the people of Japan.

Hardly overwhelming support - less than half the population voted in the 2017 election and the LDP scraped less than half of the votes. They're helped a lot by serious underrepresentation of urban voters, and by the fact that in some areas there's literally no alternative as half-way credible opposition parties just can't afford to field candidates. I'm sure you're right they'll win, but I wouldn't take that as a sign many Japanese people like them very much. I mean, what's to like?
