Here is yet another example showing that Suga is out of his mind.

Alan:

So what does Japan want in return.

For them to support the Olympics (and more).

@Luddite Astra Zeneca is not rec for under 40s in the UK and even older in Australia due to a higher risk of blot clots and other side effects in patients.

I know. That doesn’t answer my question though, what “higher levels”? There is a much bigger risk of clots if you take the combined contraceptive pill, or fo on a long haul flight.

Unwanted vaccines follow the fish from Fukushima and that has been followed by huge amounts of plastic…

Throwing away the unwanted is the norm for Japan

In the end... it's all political bs. That will never change.

I stopped reading after “Suga says”

These are AstraZeneca doses which Japan has had no plans of using on its own people. The government considers them second-tier status due to the higher levels of side-effects.

What “higher levels”?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Wow! This government is such a disaster. I never had big expectations for Gollum and his clan but dang. Didn't Japan secured don't remember how many millions of doses but now they're running out of vaccines?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

How about they start offering vaccines for people in Japan? I got my vaccine coupons from the city hall this week but when I tried to make a reservation, they said they're not offering it yet for those under 65. This is Machida.

How can demand exceed expectations when they know everyone needs to be vaccinated?

In my best General Ackbar voice: "It's a trap!"

I called my local ward district today to help me find a location where I can register for a vaccination. When I tried on my own there were no clinics or hospitals offering appointments for months. Finally the soonest I could book was August 3rd.

I wonder if giving away all of these ampules is affecting the availability, or are the clinics and hospitals really that slow to ramp up? (Both I presume)

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I am sure there are many companies and groups that applied for more vaccines than needed and the vaccines are wasting instead of being returned to the ministry or arrangement made to transfer the left over vaccines to needy localities.

In other news "Osaka may halt first round of COVID-19 vaccinations due to supply shortage".

1 ( +5 / -4 )

There were 50 million doses of Moderna vaccine, stored in Kyoto. That easily provides a first dose for the adult residents of Kansai. There are 22 million folks in the greater Osaka-Kobe metropolitan area. The number of adults, over 20 is approximately 17 million.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Yokohama is pausing its own vaccination programme, for the group immediately below the over 65s, as they have no supplies of vaccine. Some coupons were sent out, but appointments cannot be made until some time in August.

Again, acting in their National Interest, and not caring at all about their nationals' interests.

The Japan Times is running a story on the Japanese government now forcibly slowing its domestic vaccination programme, just as it was finally working well, as it is 'running out of vaccines'. But it is happy to give away Astra Zeneca vaccine rather than use it. I wonder if this is in return for pro-whaling votes from small island nations?

3 ( +8 / -5 )

This isn't right. Most Pacific islands are much more able to control the virus due to their isolation, just as NZ did. We're running out of vaccines just when the Delta variant has started to make its way into the population. We need them here. I'd happily take an AZ vaccine.

the distribution of vaccines to the different cities around the country for those under 64 will depend on the expected arrivals from overseas between July and September.

We used to place this game at school. We called it Pass The Parcel.

A political gesture?

Indonesia? I have a problem with my tax going anywhere near this regime

How can demand exceed expectations when they know everyone needs to be vaccinated? I’m also waiting for my voucher.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

On the news they just said that they're postponing vaccinations here in Hiroshima because they're running out. Reservations are expected to start again in August.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The big story yesterday was how Japan was running out of vaccines after demand had exceeded expectations. This just seems like more insanity.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Look after your own first, I don't understand the logic here?

9 ( +12 / -3 )

MeAnwhile in Osaka we can’t make reservations anymore because they’ve run out.

15 ( +20 / -5 )

More soft power mongering and hoping to get a step up on China, but with Astra Zeneca, I bet. Once again, Pacific islands are going to get screwed. To our small island friends: only take them if they are Pfizer.

Unless we have different pipes through your company, your professional assignment, just wait and see.

My city has only sent coupons for those over 65.

I do not expect anything soon.

If only the Japanese government could vaccinate its own residents...

They can have my one, please go ahead !

It is true that the demand for the vaccine is relatively low in Japan so 3M doses of AZ to help other countries is a logical and compassionate thing to do.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

Japanese pharmaceutical companies are producing own vaccines toward the end of the year.

The world is grateful for Japan’s generosity and foresight.

Oops! (“Palm” to forehead)

Correction: They are grateful for one out of the two.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Thankyou Japan! The kindly.

They can have my one, please go ahead !

Meanwhile, Osaka is running out of vaccines and will have to stop first dose vaccinations. It’s insane.

17 ( +21 / -4 )

So the people in Japan?

13 ( +16 / -3 )

ermm, I'm all FOR doing good and sharing vaccines, but I havent even received my coupon here in Yokohama. Hope I will soon.

14 ( +18 / -4 )

Surprisingly generous considering Japan has only just started offering vaccinations to its own population.

19 ( +24 / -5 )

I am sure those countries will be grateful for Japan's unwanted vaccines.
