Yeah, that's why he's resigning. Just about as useful as a wet blanket.

Personally I don’t see the world as a ‘united world’ nor has Suga and the Olympics brought it any closer to being unified. What a blithering idiot Suga is.

lol. Lame Duck Suga, reduced as a "leader" to simply standing still long enough to become replaced, must be Trolling us all now. These PandemOlympics? A "Symbol of global unity"? lol.

You're a wicked Troll, Suga! The Elites will of course be charmed, but the People are Triggered. Well played.

Trolling...I can find no other explanation!

Nobody could go, and no one wanted it held-a show of global unity or how much a leader can be out of touch with his people?

The hall was semi empty if you look at the photo, and the words of Suga were to little interest to the U.N.

This old man has a political influence abroad like zero.

Yes, Japan was unified with other countries that also had a huge spike in COVID infections and related deaths. Other than that there was nothing to speak of really. Oh, it did result in another person being fired from his job, Suga, to join the millions of others worldwide.

The Tokyo Olympics were not a symbol of global unity but the stark reality of local misery.

Suga tells U.N. Olympics were symbol of global unity

The rest of the world was united in a shared sense of relief that it was Japan, and not them, hosting the idiotic event.

"While humanity has been faced with immeasurable hardships, the Tokyo 2020 Games proved to be a symbol of global unity among people around the world," Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

He didn’t even have national unity on this one!

Sickening! All the games did was put greed & $$$ front & centre meanwhile the people in Japan got sick in RECORD #s & lord only knows how many DIED because of these games!!!

"hopes and dreams to everyone across the globe."

Disgusting, the people of Japan will continue to personally pay very a very high price for this olympic folly!

Suga if he could open his eyes a little more perhaps he could see that holding the Olympics during a pandemic didn't Unite the world

Global unity my butt!

"Global unity.." Yes, I believe the theme was something like, "united by emotion?" The crushing debt, and feeling of abandonment and hopelessness by all those impacted by the virus and the socioeconomic fallout is the emotion that comes to mind. As for global unity, I doubt any country will help the Japanese now saddled with debt and taxes for generations to come.

myself and my young daughter got saddled with years and years of debt

A waste of my taxes

statements like these crack me up.

You personally, are not in any debt due to the Olympics.

And governments having been wasting our tax money since the Roman days.

No. A symbol of corporate rule over national government. Pretty freaking simple, isn't it? Money rules.

Just stop already Suga! You got to host the games. Just leave it! And no one wants to hear about those games anymore. They're done. Move on!

No one got sick and died from covid during the Olympics as the virus is deadlier than the common cold.

I don’t know that many people around me who got hopes and dreams from these Olympic Games. I know myself and my young daughter got saddled with years and years of debt though. Suga and his people won’t care though as they won’t have to face the hardships to pay it back.

However little credibility in which he had left in him, it's all lost in this speech now.

15 ( +16 / -1 )

more like slavery to the multinational corportations by Japan and all participants

"While there were various views about holding the Games this summer, we, as the host country of the Games, fulfilled our responsibilities and achieved what we set out to do," Suga said. He commended the athletes for giving "hopes and dreams to everyone across the globe."

Why is it when elected leaders fail to deliver any actual benefits to their citizenry (except for a select few) the default is always to say they gave "hopes and dreams"? Vary your platitudes! Don't be hackish!
