Abe did the same suckup with Trump in 2016. I think he was even quicker on the draw, IIRC.
Slickdrifter
Suga (daddy) is expected to congratulate (Joe Beans) Joe Biden on his victory over incumbent President Donald Trump.
Chotto mate Suga san....Mada mada desu! Saiban desu! Saiban niwa sadamerareta tetsuzuki to iu mono ga aru.
Might want to re-think that call until we have clear idea if Democrats committed voter fraud.

Japan needs to hope Trump will be declared the actual winner because Biden will do NOTHING to honor the agreement to protect Japan..! China is poised to be the big threat and will continue to bully Japan if Joe is the ‘ leader’ of America.
kyronstavic
Nothing has been officially declared yet, and what happens if Trumps challenge succeeds? Lots of egg on lots of faces. Suga might want to hold off for just a little longer.

A phone call is great but America is in danger of having democracy replaced by despotism. Trumps attempt to circumvent the will of the people risks civil war and damaging America in more ways than one.
There have been no credible reports of any irregularities let alone a mass fraud in numerous states. Trump sacking people in power positions and replacing those loyal to America with those loyal to Trump so that he can hold on to power. This is a turning point for the US where it will either uphold democratic values or turn to out right Despotism under Trump. Should democracy survive it needs to put in place checks for transition periods to ensure a lame duck President like Trump has no ability to endanger the Country as Trump is doing right now.
Suga calling Biden may give a little more credibility to Biden, it cant hurt. But in the end it is America and its people who need to ensure Trump leaves peacefully and does no further damage to America or its institutions.
Should Trump manage to turn America Despotic then the US risks everything from its allies to its friends.

Prime Minister Suga is smart. He knows it's better to be an equal partner with Biden than a puppet of Trump's. Because that's all Trump wants. Trump knows nothing of diplomacy or bipartisanship. It's his way or the highway.
There is absolutely no evidence of fraud. Did you see all those people celebrating in the streets after Biden had won? Trump only wishes he had those many people at one of his rallies. Those many happy people are clear evidence of the sheer numbers who voted for Biden. Plus, there has already been stories of postal workers who recanted their fabrications of fraud.
Besides, it's hypocrisy. Back in 2018, Republicans were saying the same thing. They complained that Democrats were whining and creating unwarranted allegations of fraud or broken voting machines, when many Republican politicians won the midterms. And now, it's the Republicans who are whining.

Has Suga gone out of his mind? Even China has decided not to congratulate Biden until voter fraud allegations are cleared.

So far and in order, according to MSM, Biden has called: 1) Trudeau-Canada 2) Johnson-UK, 3) Merkel-Germany, 4) Macron-France ...

I sense another lap dog for the next 4 years.

The Government of japan, regardless of who is in office, is and always has been one of the US Government most loyal and closest allies.
Overview of Japan-U.S. Security Relationship.....

If this relationship is important enough to continue in its current arrangement, it would be wise to treat the Japanese Government accordingly and show a little more respect.
Top of the list...

We do. They didn't.

Biden has spoken to or received congratulatory words from the leaders of UK, France, Germany, Australia, Canada, South Korea, etc.
China, Russia, North Korea and Iran have not. Why are you grouping Japan with this group? Have you gone out of your mind?

This is Japan Government and people commitment by the numbers ......
Just take a minute and trawl through the costs.....Not up to date!
No other nation offers this commitment.

And yet Boris Johnson is up there with moaning Macron, and skinflint, supposed NATO ally Merkel.

No, Shinzo Abe actually flew to NY to congratulate Trump in person at Trump Tower. In retrospect he turned out to be one of the few who was able to "manage" Trump. Suga is just calling and he's behind a long line of leaders of democratic nations. Most of whom are very happy that Trump lost.
Asakaze
Disgusting. Suga, have the decency to wait for the official announcement of the results of the elections.
Garthgoyle
Going the same way as Abe? Better wait till January coz you never know.
Asakaze
@OssanAmerica
Amusing. Westerners always ridiculed Japanese for the "herd mentality". Now the demands "don' stick your neck out and do as other democratic countries do".
JCR
What victory. Not even all states have been counted, and there hasn’t been an official result yet. Unless you think the newschannels are the ones deciding the winner.

Up to now, President-elect(?) Biden has exactly only zero votes. If there are people elected, then only the voters of the electoral college. So this is only a normal private phone call to a U.S. citizen. lol

News flash. All of Trump's court cases have been swiftly thrown out.Wow. In any case, it's so good that America isn't like Russia. Otherwise, the shenanigans that Trump and his minions are pulling would actually work in trying to steal the election to make him dictator for life.
Fortunately, Americans have voted fairly and officials in every state has done an excellent job of making sure every vote counts.
The unfortunate thing, is that Trump continues to try to destroy the fabric of American's sacred electoral process by making false and baseless accusations that millions of officials, vote counters, politicians, media, and many more millions of voters who took to the streets to celebrate, are all in some kind of mass conspiracy.
Does he care that people are catching the corona virus? No. Will he care even if he's somehow elected again? No. All he wants to do is to go back to watching TV, tweeting and playing golf.
What's even more disturbing is that so many of his followers would rather choose a president that tweets, over one that actually tries to do something about the pandemic. Wow!
