Japan cannot be expected to do that. It takes hundreds of millions of dollars in investments to be able to seize resources, let alone in Afghanistan. Would you put your nest eggs In Afghanistan?

Nobody in the world can lend, build and buy at the same time, China is the only one who can do it all the way, one stop shop. They lend Afghanistan the money, they build for Afghanistan and they buy from Afghanistan.

Maybe Suga can set his “go to” travel campaign towards Afghanistan. That will help set up good relations with the Taliban.

Japan can play a great intermediary role in this chaotic situation. A bit of calm to the storm. Japan needs to be the bridge builder in the new region. I believe they can do it, once the plan is set.

The Taliban are Pashtuns, they imposed Pashtun culture which has never been big on educating women. Western TV only shows the elite English speakers in Kabul. Not the sizable number, possibly a majority, that at least partially support the Taliban. Especially in the south. The population has doubled since last time they were in power, it will be interesting to see what the outcome will be. The US won't be going back after suffering a huge humiliation, that's for sure.

That’s right @oxy, but what has this to do especially with Afghanistan? Nowadays almost every bigger Western country is in fact already an even safer haven for them and similar groups.

Taliban want to maintain good relations with Japan because Japan has never sent soldiers and never killed Taliban, Afghans there. Japanese NGOs has rather helped Afghan people there for a long time.

If anyone can recall in the late 80's there was a bombing in a theater in Russia and the Russian branded the bombers as terrorist which in fact they were Russian Muslims. They were being persecuted in Russia because they could not exercise their religious freedoms. The terrorist acts continued and Putin tied the terrorist to the Taliban over in Afghanistan this started the war because the Terrorist had the backing of the Taliban. Going forward today China is doing the exact same thing persecuting the Ulghers, Chinese Muslims. They are being rounded up put in jail raped and the women sterilized. The Chinese do not want the Muslim influence in China. Eventually China too will start seeing these terrorist acts by coxing up to the Taliban based on greed. The Taliban does not want technology, but China wants control of the biggest Lithium fields for electrical energy. What China does not know they too will get sucked into a war. Once the Chinese Muslim on the border of Afghanistan start the terrorist acts and get the backing of the Taliban China will see a need to stop it and in the name of Muslim brotherhood and Allah China too will find itself sucked into a war as the Russians and US found out. Taliban take over of Afghanistan is the same as a military coup in Myanmar. They deserve exactly the same treatment by the world until their are open elections in Afghanistan.

It seems to me Japan has good relations with Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other middle east countries besides Afghanistan because Japan will not send troops all over there but NGOs only go there.

I'm pretty sure you meant that sarcastically, but honestly, I think you will see tourism in Afghanistan explode in the coming months. Now that the war is over, who is afraid of being kidnapped? Perhaps its too early to tell how the Taliban will treat tourists, but early indications suggest that they will welcome them just as any other developing country does.

If Japanese women went to negotiate with the Taliban they would return with the Taliban’s bank cards and put the Taliban on a ¥30,000/month allowance. Then they would spend all the Taliban’s opium cash on cafe lunches and ¥1,000 a cup designer tea.

I'm also glad that Okinawa Prefecture, under the administration of Gov. Keiichi Inamine, conferred Okinawa Peace Prize in 2002 on Nakamura and the said NGO.

There are all kinds of Talibans there, not all same. Talibans are not well organized. Some are really good and some are really bad insurgents. Dr. Nakamura was just unlucky there despite good Afghan guards around him. Guards were also killed.

Afghanistan is more sinned against than sinning. In less than half a century Afghanistan was invaded by two major powers: The Soviet Union under Brezhnev and The U.S. under George W. Bush. Nearly all the military accoutrements of Hell were levied on the people of this nation. If that nation is insane it was made so.
