His departure could further weaken Kishida, whose support ratings have remained stuck below 30% in some recent opinion polls, a level that may make it difficult for him to carry out his political agenda.

If the ruling party attracted half the votes at the last election, and given that half the electorate can’t be bothered voting anyway, that 30% support equates to an overwhelming endorsement of the Kishida administration by those rusted on true believers whose fortunes are inextricably linked to the regime’s. To these die hards, the 70% overwhelming disaffection level can go on being safely ignored.

@MumbaiRocks

One rule for them ( politicians) and one rule for us plebs!!!( Working class).

documentation ostensibly signed by a dead person

Did the dead fellow ostesibly sign, or was he ostensibly dead?

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Right... and then 10 minutes later he'll put him in another government position.

or was he ostensibly dead?

He could’ve been in a state of cardiac arrest. Or, mesmeric trance.

In Japan, the authorities customarily describe those without vital signs as being in “shinpai teishi,” or a state of cardiac and pulmonary arrest, and do not confirm deaths until they are pronounced at hospitals and other necessary procedures are done.

one of his support groups had submitted a funding documentation ostensibly signed by a dead person,

Every single person in that group needs to be investigated.

There is an open position in the Ministry of Justice.

Classic Japanese politics. The minister for internal affairs who is supposed to monitor corruption is as corrupt as the rest of them.

-2 ( +12 / -14 )

This reminds me and many others of an X president that his trying to make a come back , no need to mention names, LOL

Don't worry I am sure they can find another old fossil to fill the position. just playing musical chairs at the old folks home again.

A vast majority of voters also disapproved of Kishida's decision to hold a state funeral for Abe, which took place at the end of September.

A waste of taxpayers money on this event which was more expensive than the Queens funeral!

Kishida was a "Yes Man" to Abe, now he's the Leader, he seems to be floundering.

The "Tokyo Immigration Bureau" should be fixed. The number of Deaths there are unacceptable, and a damage to the reputation of Japan Internationally, particularly as they can be seen as being Racially Motivated, and ignite old wounds....

I do not know what is worse! The poor morals of the conservative LDP lead by Shinzo Abe for so many years, or Terada's hairpiece.

All of this Shinzo Abe's. The corrupt PM that keeps on providing more embarrassment even after his untimely death.

Good to know that this politician resigning bcoz of guilt of shame ness. Only in Japan

Stupid move on the part of Kishida. He didn't read the mood of the people. He should have listened to them. That funeral is his Achilles Heel.

Amen brother! But the immigration bureau is only the tip of the iceberg. They have to fundamentally revamp the whole justice system which resembles a 4th world country's more than a developed one.

I do not know what is worse! The poor morals of the conservative LDP lead by Shinzo Abe for so many years, or Terada's hairpiece.

That's a tough one! You got me there!

Since when did the Japanese gov’t (aka the LDP) care what ‘the people’ think?

Exactly! Makes about as much sense as Xi worrying about his popularity in China

At this pace, all ministers will have been fired well before the "golden three years" are over.

Time for Kishida to run for the shadows.

I wonder if this is a Japanese version of a general election, a way of changing the government, without the party actually leaving power. Resign, resign, resign, Bow, say sorry, change the leader, juuuuuuust before the election, then ask the public to choose the same party….again. You get what you vote for….. or not in this case.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

Yes as noted the LDP is a joke, a one party democracy which did not come into being on its own merit during the post-Occupation era, and has rarely if ever reflected the popular will of the people.

The usual base corruption as reflected here in conjunction with support from their associates in DC is the only way it has remained in power.

Should have used the Joel Hayley Osment defence, "I want to tell you my secret, Mr Kishida. I see dead people." Who knows, it might have saved his career...

Don't worry! The Moonies will continue funding his lavish lifestyle as well as other lifestyles of Japanese political elites.

The Unification Church will continue to enslave Japan as a cult nation for the United States to divide and rule.

There is a hierarchy in Japan that everyone should be aware of after Abe's assassination.

United States military/intelligence community in Japan Korean cultists/Korean Yakuzas (under American payrolls) Japanese political elites/Keiretsu bosses (under Korean payrolls) Japanese monarchy Japanese citizens Foreign residents.

Pretty sure he got fired
